OCC Hedonist Stained Gloss

For summer, OCC has six new shades of Stained Gloss ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) now available. All are permanent except for Dune, which is limited edition. The Stained Gloss formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented with a translucent finish.” I feel like if you loved the concept and delivery of the original shades released–that “stained glass” effect that had rich color payoff but that layer of translucency and high gloss finish–these will disappoint. They’re more like lightly glossed Lip Tars; the finish differs quite a bit compared to other Stained Glosses I’ve tried, unfortunately.

OCC Hedonist Stained Gloss ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “neon pastel pink.” It’s a light-medium, cool-toned pink with blue undertones and a soft, glossy shine. The finish was one of the glossiest of the six new shades, but the coverage read heavier–perhaps it’s the light, milky/creamy quality of the color itself–and didn’t have that “stained glass” look of the original formula. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but it settled slightly into lip lines and wasn’t the most even applied. The color lasted for three hours and left a very, very slight stain behind. Worth noting is that it did apply better than many other bubblegum pink glosses I’ve tried (though still room for improvement). MAC Pure Silliness (LE, $15.00) is warmer. Kat Von D Armageddon (P, $19.00) is more opaque, matte. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Mannequin (P, $18.00) is matte. Revlon Strawberry Shortcake (P, $7.49) is darker. NYX Merengue (P, $5.00) is lighter, sheerer. MAC Long Love Love (P, $19.50) is lighter. MAC Raspberry Swirl (LE, $16.00) is less glossy. MAC Saint Germain (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Pink Nouveau (LE, $15.00) is a touch darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Narcissus (P, $18.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

OCC Off World Stained Gloss ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “pearlescent lilac shimmer.” It’s a shimmery, pink-lavender with cool, blue undertones and a soft shine. It’s fairly sheer–almost between sheer and semi-sheer–and applied very unevenly. The consistency was creamy with a lot of slip, so it moved around a lot and was difficult to keep looking smooth and even. It lasted two hours on me and didn’t leave any stain behind. Bite Beauty Lavender (P, $24.00) is pinker, darker. MAC Pure Silliness (LE, $15.00) is a touch warmer. MAC Carousel (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Patentpink (LE, $20.00) is lighter. MAC Rose Lily (LE, $16.00) is lighter, less glossy. Revlon Cupcake (P, $7.49) is similar. NYX Merengue (P, $5.00) is lighter. NARS Roman Holiday (P, $26.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

OCC Nomad Stained Gloss ($18.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is described as a “gold-laced maroon.” It’s a gold-shimmered, plummy red with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. Of all the six shades, this one came closest to replicating that “stained glass” effect that the original shades had. It’s not as glossy, but it has the translucency while still achieving good color coverage. This shade wore well for six hours and a left a stain behind, too, while the formula was neither drying nor hydrating over time. Estee Lauder Decadent (150) (P, $30.00) doesn’t have shimmer, darker. Tom Ford Beauty Bittersweet (03) (LE, $49.00) is less red. Bobbi Brown Plum Shimmer (3) (P, $25.00) is slightly less red. MAC Hell Bound (LE, $15.00) is glossier. MAC Restless (LE, $15.00) is glossier. Dior Belle de Nuit (LE, $32.00) is less glossy. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I was really surprised how nice Nomad looks on lips, it was a little iffy when I first saw the arm swatch and tube color. That is probably the best color for myself that I’ve seen in the Lip Tar colors, I’m super tempted to add it to my Sephora Wish List! And now that I see that Mac Hell Bound is a dupe (which I LOVED and nearly caved and bought when it came out), I can see why I love Nomad! Plus 6 hours of wear is nothing to sneeze at.

Off World is speaking to me but it’s reminding me a lot of the gloss I already have on my lips today (and discussed in the ‘QOTD’ today MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2 lipglass. I feel like a broken record mentioning it twice in posts today haha

i love so many of the occ lip tar shades, but i can’t stand the feel of it on my lips. i always want to love them, so i always try them in the store, but i just can’t wear them. that eyeliner is stunning! is it one of the new smashbox ones? i wasn’t impressed with the black, but sometimes companies do color better than black when it comes to eyeliner.

I really like the color Nomad. It reminds me of the lipstick worn by the Allison character in the intro of the show Pretty Little Liars. I’ve been on the hunt for that exact lipstick, and I haven’t found it yet. Have you seen it and if so, any idea what brand/shade it might be?

Was hoping Nomad was going to swatch a little browner, gets too bright red for me. But the dupe you swiped, Bobbi Btown’s plum shimmer, now that would look nice on me. This is becoming a shopping website for me. You are a very dangerous woman!

Hmm. I am a fan of the Stained Glosses, but none of these shades really look like they’d suit me.
I don’t do “pale” well, and Nomad looks too warm for me.
Come on, OCC – let’s have some deep/dark shades for fall/winter!
