NYX Violetta Eyeshadow
NYX Violetta Eyeshadow ($5.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a gold shimmered pink-purple with a satiny sheen. The color payoff is good, so it turns out mostly opaque, but the shimmer is more sparkled on top than it is truly embedded with the color, so it does result in some fall out. It reminded me a little of MAC Half-Wild when really sheered out, though darker. Urban Decay Purple Haze is fairly similar with a matte finish and more purple in it.
Because it is a brighter purple, despite the red undertones, it should translate into a bruise on the lid, though you’ll want to be careful on what you pair it with. Â The texture is a little powdery with the loose sparkle adding a slight grittiness to the overall feel. Â I’m not keen on this type of finish, because it is prone to fall out. Â If you like the effect, I recommend using a sticker (more like a cream) base, and then press the product on, rather than sweeping or tapping. Â Like other NYX eyeshadows, it doesn’t hold up all day on its own (looks a bit faded, slightly creased after six hours) but is better over a primer (no fading or creasing but there was continued fall out).

As soon as I opened the page, I instantly thought of MAC Trax when I saw the product photos of Violetta. Though Violetta is definitely a more true purple, I feel like Trax could be comparable in some aspects, though it is definitely more ‘berry.’ They both share the purple base with the gold sheen, though Violetta is a definite glitter, whereas Trax has got more of a shimmer.
Perhaps Violetta would make a good lid colour, paired with Trax in the crease providing a smooth blend between the lid and brow bone!
Thanks for the great review, Christine!
Oh Wow! If only the execution was better…it would’ve been a dream eyeshadow for me…
Meh, I liked it in the pan but on the skin it just looks grainy.
Hi Christine!
Would you say that this shade compares to mac’s creme de violet? The shimmer in this color reminds me very much of the mac shade but i can’t really tell from the swatch. Thanks!
Seems like they would be close at least!
I like this color, but like you said I can already see the texture isn’t top-notch and there will be fallout. Urban Decay Purple Haze looks VERY different on me though! I was thinking this would be more similar to Fishnet!
