NYX Violet Ray Round Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
The Sultry Season: NYX Violet Ray Lipstick
NYX Violet Ray Round Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep raspberry red with fuchsia sheen. it’s semi-opaque and goes on a touch streaky, but it’s a great affordable option for a sultry lip this season. It wears about three to four hours, but it’s not drying at all. I like how there is some glossiness in the finish, which helps to make it look smoother. This is a versatile shade that works for the vampier fall lip but also as more festive holiday lip color.
Is this the right berry for you? Would you wear it?
The Sultry Season is a series of posts featuring deep, rich shades of brown, berry, plum, and wine lipsticks and lipglosses — just right for autumn — that runs through October 2010.
This is not a good color for me but it certainly is for you Christine, looks beautiful on you! I think NYX Round Lipsticks are such good quality for the price that your paying.
I’ve only tried a few NYX products and I’ve already fallen in love with them. May have to give this a try
this is a really pretty shade, and it looks great on you christine, do these have any scent or taste?
NYX lipsticks seem to either be relatively scent free or else smell like plastic. I do have a couple that smell like a generic perfume… something floral-ish – reminds me of the perfume section of a department stores. My guess is that the scent doesn’t last long, so it disappears and eventually the smell of the wax in the lipstick base is left.
Do you think applying with a lip brush would eliminate the streak factor? That’s a seriously fabulous color.
It might minimize it, but just smooshing your lips may ruin all the work, too, lol.
It’s not terribly streaky, though!
I haven’t found a NYX shade of lipstick yet that looks good on me but I haven’t tried any of the reds or berry lipsticks maybe I’ll try this one since It looks so pretty on you
love this color. will be checking it out!
That’s gorgeous on you! Gonna have to keep it in mind.
Dark lip colors look great with your skintone!
I love this! It’s a very unique red. 🙂 Dark but still bright.
This is the perfect shade that i have been looking for. not to mention the price is amazing since im on a major beauty budget. Thanks C for your reviews.
Very pretty color
Oh, that’s lovely! I was thinking of getting MAC Odyssey, but this is lovely and is certainly more affordable … hm, decisions.
They’re different and yet similar – Odyssey is noticeably lighter, but if you want something darker, then hey 🙂
I am wearing this very shade today! This is my go-to berry color it works well with my skin tone, it doesn’t dry my lips though, yes, it requires touch ups constantly and i usually have to use a lip brush to apply. STill worth it the color is gorgeous!
Thanks for this post and the swatch, Christine. I was debating whether or not to get MAC Odyssey and this comparison decided it for me: MAC Odyssey. So I’ll get the more expensive dupe!
You should definitely post more nyx lip swatches ! I can’t find good ones like your swatches anywhere .
Wow!
This is an awesome shade i might have to try it out!
I find that Nyx lipsticks fade quickly. What I do to prevent this is to apply loose powder to mattify and set it; that way, it lasts longer.
ANOTHER GREAT COLOR ESPECIALLY ON YOU…YOU SEEM TO SUIT BERRY SHADES.
Hi Christine,
Off topic question: what is the main difference between MAC midi-mauve and creme in your coffee lipsticks? They seem similar to me and I want to chose one and buy to be my everyday color. Also, do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks!!!
I don’t have Midi-Mauve, sorry!
Berry Beautiful! $4.00? decimal’s in the wrong place right? 😉
I’ve had Violet Ray for at least six months now and I love it! I always get compliments on the color and what it does for my complexion. I’m a MAC NW43.
