NYX Trickery, Risque, Scandalous Wicked Lippies Reviews, Photos, Swatches
NYX Wicked Lippies
NYX Wicked Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) recently released, and the formula is described as “richly pigmented” and having a “dazzling metallic finish.” The best way for me to sum up the formula was: surprising, in a good way. Most of the shades are quite metallic, and most of them have good color payoff. The formula is creamy and slippery, yet many of the shades went on well without too much unevenness (though some were problematic, see Scandalous below). I expected they’d wear away quickly, due to the slippery nature of the texture, but they wore about average (four hours) or longer. I didn’t notice any scent or taste for most, though a couple had a very subtle waxy scent that I noticed in the tube but not on.
NYX Trickery Wicked Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a dirty, olive green with fine gold shimmer for a frosted, metallic finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that applied fairly well, but there was some unevenness. The texture was creamy, surprisingly slippery, so I was actually impressed it looked as good on as it did, given how emollient the formula was. I was even more surprised that it lasted for five hours; it seemed like a lot of the slickness disappeared within an hour, and once it did, it didn’t move readily. It was neither drying nor hydrating, and it was comfortable to wear. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Fragmented (LE, $18.00) was the closest I had, but it is a lot sheerer and lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NYX Risque Wicked Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a rich, emerald green with metallic green shimmer. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and again, the formula felt incredibly creamy and emollient, yet it applied a lot better than expected. There was slight unevenness, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The color wore well for almost five hours, and it left a light stain behind. Dolce and Gabbana Smeraldo (LE, $33.00) is much darker, sheerer. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Chlorophyll (P, $18.00) is lighter, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NYX Scandalous Wicked Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a brightened, medium-dark blue-teal with a glossy, pearly finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but the high slip in the formula made itself quite apparent with its uneven coverage. It slides around a lot, and it is very high maintenance to wear on its own. A lip liner is a must with this one, I’d say. Alone, it lasted for three and a half hours. NYX Pistachio (P, $6.00) is a lot lighter. Illamasqua Apocalips (P, $24.00) is more matte, darker, bluer. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Chlorophyll (P, $18.00) is greener. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
P.S. — If you don’t dig unconventional colors, that’s cool, but please don’t criticize or insult those who do. Not everyone loves red lipstick OR green lipstick but that’s why options exist 🙂

I’m definitely buying Risqué!
Yay!
I’m so sad about Scandalous. It was one of my favorites in the tube. Risque looks fantastic! I’m so excited for your review of the rest of the line!
It had such potential!
My Beauty Addiction (an etsy store) has a color called “Aquatic” that’s similar. It’s not metallic though.
Risqué is so cool!!! Glad it got such a good rating! Scandalous is a bit disappointing but for such a unique color at such a low price im sure it won’t be a deal breaker for those interested.
At least it didn’t break the bank!
I love that you do these reviews for unusual colors! No, I won’t feel comfortable wearing them but I love seeing them. And hopefully they become more mainstream and we’re all wearing them.
Love the green on you!
Thanks, Megan!
Well said! Without Christine I would never have suspected a deep metallic green to look so good on the lips 🙂
Agreed with both comments. I really don’t see myself in these colors. But, I love them on Christine! So, nice to see the review on a affordable product. Maybe a good time for us to step out of our comfort zone and work on bringing the trend in…not like it’s $25-50 down the drain.
what blush are u wearing? it looks like your perfect everyday color. it suits you so well…
MAC Scone + Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar, I think!
Trickery looks amazing on you, especially with the bare eye look! Very cool!
Aw, thanks a lot, Hannah!
I am dying of excitement over Risque. As soon as I saw it in the lineup I knew I was gonna have to get it – emerald green lips have been an obsession of mine since I saw the concept of Dolce & Gabbana’s Smeraldo. I remember being so devastated that it was so bad, so THIS – at such an incredible price point!! – is thrilling! Thanks for the review, I’ll be picking it up TODAY!
As an aside, I think Trickery is very flattering on you. 🙂
SOOOOOOO much better than Smeraldo.
I think anything is better than Smeraldo :/
these colours are so unique! doubt I could ever pull them off though 🙁
They are unique!
Trickery looks a lot like Illamasqua’s Wanderlust lipgloss. New Nyx products aren’t easy to get a hold of in NZ but I think I want this one 🙂
Definitely similar in a way!
I didn’t think I would like these, but I quite like Trickery on you!
Thanks, Barbara!
Hello Risque! I’d be tempted to actually wear that in the day time… probably too edgy for my daily life but I don’t care it so cool looking!
Wear it 😀
Risque looks incredible! If only NYX made these available in Canada. ):
I hope they do!
Hey have you tried Target or Pharma Plus in Canada??? They carry NYX products. I don’t know where you are but I’ve purchased some NYX products there. Not sure if this line is available yet…
I think I want Risque, but the first one looks so cool on you!
Aw, thanks Ginny!
There’s something so 90s Grunge about Trickery that I LOVE it! I know most people will run from a frosted olive green lipstick, but I fee like a lot of people could pull this off really well.
Trickery seems to be the reader fave here 😉
I love Risque. I wish I had somewhere to wear it to. Halloween is right around the corner. Perhaps a poison ivy costume could justify buying this.
There ya go 😉
Trickery look sooo pretty!!! 🙂
Agreed!
Ahhhh Scandalous matches my car (Blue Raspberry Honda Fit)
OOOOH! Made for you.
WOW! These look amazing! I want some just for the heck of it–I have no idea what I could wear these with.
Anything! Everything. A smile 😀
NYX Trickery is a real standout of the line for me because of the unique olive gold quality of the shade I’ve only seen in eyeliners and shadows. Risque is nice as well *_*
I really like the tone of Trickery!
Wicked matches you eyes! <3
Ops.. I mean Trickery… XD
Good eye 🙂
Yes! When I opened up your site this morning I was hoping some of the Wicked line would be here! I am OBSESSED with Trickery and will definitely be picking it up. I was hoping for a darker/more hunter green with Risque – the swatch on your arm definitely looks dark green but on your lips I get a more bluish tint – what do you think of it in person? Can’t wait for you to review the Blue/purple shades!!!
LOL! So many things to review!
Risque is a cooler green, but it is definitely green. Emerald green more than hunter green I would say.
I thought I didn’t want any of these. I may have been wrong… that first photo shows off quite a color!
They’re fun! 😀
I love the way trickery and risque look, and because they are NYX it’s easier to experiment cheaply!
So true, Keg!
Trickery is beautiful on you, and it actually looks really wearable! I’m sad about Scandalous though– was kind of excited about that one.
Thank you, Lucia! 🙂
I grabbed Envy and Immortal. With the 25% off first order discount, I figured I could take a risk! Looks like they might be fun for Halloween.
Very nice! Hope you love ’em 😉
I could never pull these off but imagine if they were eyeshadow colors…especially risqué!!
They would be cool!
I already had Risque on my wish list and now I’m adding Trickery too 🙂
Fun!! 🙂
Risque looks like the perfect dupe of Melt Blow -even if it’s not matte- that I have been looking for for such a long time (the shipping cost keeps me away from buying it from melt) so… yeah! 🙂
YAYYYY!
I think these are amazing! Of course, I’m not in the market for these types of lipstick colors, but the swatches look amazing .. quite a good formula for these tricky type of colors, i think.
Monica.
Yes, it is impressive for 1) price point, 2) the types of color. You usually see these colors is drier formulations, and when they’re dry, it can be tough.
I NEED Trickery!! It’s gorgeous!!! I don’t know how much I’ll wear it on its own, but I think it would be a great way to change the tone of other lipsticks!
Certainly worth trying 🙂
I loved your swatch of Trickery. I’m tempted to buy it, but I wanted to ask if you’ve seen other swatches of it, and if their color payoff is consistent with yours? I love how it comes across a bit more brown with your swatches, but on the NYX website, it actually looks more like its olive green description.
I haven’t – I don’t pay much attention to company promo images, since they’re often designed for maximum impact and less so for color accuracy!
I had no interest in Trickery, until I saw it actually applied… Although your coloring is so different than mine, seeing lip products actually *applied* really does help, and of course is well appreciated!
It’s an interesting shade! Not super green, but it’s definitely not brown. Very olive indeed.
I’m picturing it with a red/berry smokey eye… If people can do an olive eye/berry lip, why not the opposite?
Trickery looks like a wonderful color to wear for Christmas and the holiday season!!
It would be!
A bit offtopic but, does anyone know about an eyeshadow (powder or cream) in the same shade as Risque?? It looks gorgeous!
Here’s a good place to start 🙂 http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery?type=12674&color=Green&finish=Frost,Metallic&undertone=Cool
Gosh. In all honesty, NYX lipsticks have never agreed with me (their round l/s formula was oddly drying and irritating on my lips?), but some of these offbeat colors were tempting me. Given Scandalous’s formula, I guess I’ll just dupe it by mixing Lip Tars. 🙂
Let me know what you mix to get a dupe!!
I must say I didn’t find Trickery unconventional. I think it’s quite wearable, and I am so going to get it, not sure whare I can buy NYX, but I am going to Google it today. I also want Risque, maybe not such an easy wear, but it’s gorgeous.
I look forward to the reviews of the rest of this collection of glamorous unconventional lipsticks.
Real pity about Scandalous, I wasn’t going to buy it as I have a really hard time with blue, but it’s a very pretty lipstick.
You manage to look good in all colours, Christine! How do you do it?
LOL! Turns out we have a NYX store not far from where I live. I had no idea, (hangs head in shame).
It doesn’t seem like the Wicked line has come yet, I think I’ll go to the store to ask this week, or call them. What fun!
On the subject, we now have Tom Ford here, I noticed when looking through a magazine today.
A big YAY!
So glad you found out, at least 😉
It’s definitely the least unconventional of the set – more “wearable” (sometimes, I don’t like that term at all!).
Smile 🙂 That’s the secret. If you look uncomfortable with it on, that’s how you’ll come across! If you’re confident and rock it, that’ll come across too!
True. Any colour on a lipstick is wearable, of course as it is in a formula made to be worn.
I meant easy to try on if you are just going to try an unconventional colour.
I once got yelled at by a person, an older woman I worked with, because I had a blueish purple lipstick. It was a lovely colour, I thought. She claimed I looked as if I was about to die of asfyxiation. I didn’t care and kept wearing it 🙂
Oh, I know exactly what you mean! I wish we didn’t have to speak in terms of unconventional and conventional. They are all so beautiful!
GOOD FOR YOU 😀
Can I just say how awesome Trickery looks with your skin tone? It makes your whole face brighter, your teeth whiter, wow, you can def. pull this off!
Thanks, Emme!
I was totally surprised it didn’t make the teeth look *less* white!
Aw, I’m sorry Scandalous gave you such problems. I did find it sheerer than the others and agree that it needs lipliner. I didn’t really find it patchy, but it does need a few swipes for good coverage.
Trickery and Risque are awesome. Trickery is a great fall shade, but I definitely need a warm blush with it.
By the time I swatched Scandalous, I was feeling pretty optimistic, since so many of the rest went on better than expected!
I think most of them are better than I expected. The couple that weren’t are still workable, they just need liner and maybe a bit of primer. I’m looking forward to reading what you think of the other colors.
That’s my general feeling on these – I didn’t think they were going to be bad per se, but when I first swatched them, I was like, WHOA! These are really creamy… and that worried me for colors like this (that tend to look bad sheer).
As always LOVE your swatches! Don’t know if I’d ever use these colors though
Totally understand 😉
So Scandalous evidently photographs far better than it looks perhaps in reality… on my screen anyway, it looks beautiful.
It is such a cool color. Hope you’re well, Wendy 🙂
Wow! That one dupe is… Just not close at all. You could totally rock the bronze one with a bronze evening gown. You know, everyday attire. When I was young, I had to create my own lipsticks in these kinds of colors. The youth can get it so easy now. That’s fun! 🙂 I did have an olive green gloss that worked really well on my lips. It was a Merle Norman sample. It looked natural. Go figure. 😐
Must be the browner/khaki tones!
Trickery totally matches your eyes – so neat!
I didn’t even notice!
Risque is beautiful! Does anyone know if you can purchase NYX products in Canada?
Have you checked their website?
Haven’t seen this line on CherryCulture dot com yet, but they do carry NYX and ship to Canada.
I don’t know where you are but in Ontario I’ve seen NYX at both Rexall/PharmaPlus and Target
i liked the darker blues and purples from your earlier swatches of these. i hope these are better than scandalous. thanks for adding the comment about opinions. olive green lipstick may not be my thing, but i’m sure some will love it!
95% of the time, everyone is really great and respectful, but sometimes I like to put that p.s. out there as a reminder. I think it’s really important that everyone should be able to enjoy what they like without feeling like they have to defend their choices 😀
These are so beautiful, lately I’ve been really drawn to unconventional lip colors. Can’t wait to see the rest of the line. Your skin looks absolutely amazing! May I ask what blush you’re wearing in these photos Christine? Didn’t see it in The Makeup Look and it’s a lovely color!
MAC Scone + Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar, I think!
Christine, I have to ask what blush/bronzer you are wearing? The combination of blush and lip colour is very flattering. You look amazing in all these colours and I think your blush is really helping to make sure these unusual colours don’t wash you out.
MAC Scone + Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar, I think!
I’m so glad Risque got a good review! It was the one that I really wanted from the collection and its on the way to me right now along with Betrayal and Sinful. I heard if you use the NYX lip primer first, because its a little drier, it helps eliminate some of that slip so you don’t have that unevenness and makes them last way longer.
I could see primer helping for sure!
I think a clear lipliner or if you have a lip safe blue eyeliner would also work. (I’ve certainly seen had a worse blue from a budget UK brand and that even helped with that one and it was really shoddy!)
these are strange to be lipsticks?!
To some, perhaps, but to others, normal 🙂
The more I see Trickery, I more I like it. I think I’ll be buying it!
Awesome, Toni!
Trickery will be perfect for my Halloween costume as a Dalek!
Yay!
Trickery looks to be surprisingly wearable!!! I love finding great lipsticks at this range – I just bought a $3 Maybelline called Plum Perfect and I am convinced it is a dupe of Rebel 😀
Nice find!
Darn. I really wanted Scandalous but now I’m a little nervous to try it. That’s how 2 of the Macaron lipsticks applied on me and it took some work. I do have OCC Pool Boy pencil so I could try that. I’m definitely getting the other two though!
Pool Boy would totally work with it, I think. Might make it a smidgen lighter, but it should do.
Risque looks amazing I can’t wait to try it out! Trickery is also beautiful but I think it would clash too much with my skin.
I hope you try it out soon, Taite!
Risque and Trickery are quite beautiful. I couldn’t pull ’em off at this stage of the game, but they looked great on you, Christine
Thank you, Allison!
omgah , i NEED trickery now .
i didn’t like risque on me personally . i was hoping it’d be the deep forest green described on the nyx site .
That’s too bad about Risque 🙁
I absolutely love Trickery and Risque! I just showed them to my husband and he suggested an “inversion” look with a bright red (or any other color typically used on lips) on the eyes and Risque on the lips 🙂
That would be cool!
I am definitely getting Risque!! I don’t know when I will need a green lipstick but I guess I will have to make it work!
It’s awesome!
I’m pretty excited about these. They all look surprisingly wearable for unconventional shades and as a newbie who wants to wear the crazy colours but am a bit shy too these really appeal c: Thanks for the swatches and review
My pleasure, Gillian!
Trickery is almost the same colour as your eyes! It really brings them out, looks really lovely on you 🙂
Thanks, Jade!
wow! Risque is beautiful! and Trickery doesn’t look green in the pictures. It reminds me of a golden YSL lipstick I used to love in the ninities.
It’s definitely not GREEN green!
Risque and Trickery looks so good.. the metallic finish and smooth application.. I guess i should start experimenting with these shades.. 😉 ..
You should! 😀
Oh, I’ll definitely be buying Trickery and yes I will be wearing it at daytime! I remember buying Playland lipstick from MAC this summer, wondering: Why did I just buy this? And after I wore it with the yellow gloss (from the same collection but forgot the name :P), I never looked back. I think lipstick can be life changing! I’ll probably end up buying all of the colors from this collection because who doesn’t need a blue/emerald/copper/silver lipstick in their life huh? 😉
Go on with your bad self, Alex 😉
Love Trickery!!!! I never thought I’d like a color like this but it looks gorgeus and a great option for the holiday season.
It is a cool shade!
Trickery looks gorgeous. I have a very deep skin tone, and very dark lips. I think this color would compliment my skin tone very nicely.
I think it would!
Ahh, I want Trickery and Risque so badly! Risque because I’ve always wanted an emerald lipstick, and the price point on these is incredible (not to mention the good score, yay!), and Trickery because no self respecting lipstick addict should be without the sole example (to my knowledge) of a khaki lipstick (even if you don’t wear it every day) 😉
So excited about these lipsticks!
Woohoo, Sylirael! 🙂 Glad you’re liking them. How easy (or hard) is NYX to get a hold of for you? Worth the effort, I think!
Nyx is actually OK, I think. I can probably YouShop it, and of course the prices are good. I think I even have a voucher somewhere for completing a survey!
Technically I also have the wonderful Jaa 😉 (She hooked me up with the Tarte Rainforest/snake palette!)
Trickery looks freaking amazing on you, and I mean that! Not just for dress up either lol! I’m loving risqué and hope to order a few more!
Aww, thanks so much, Malia! 🙂 Sounds like I should put Trickery in the wear-again-when-I-can pile!
Suddenly I want olives, or watermelon jolly ranchers…
Haha!
Christine, I think Trickery looks shockingly good on you! I’m hoping to find at least one of these that I feel like I can try with my NW20-ish complexion, maybe a blue or purple. I’m a bit timid about unconventional colors, but I do wear purple lipsticks.
I hope you find one that you like for yourself, Fran 😀
Okay now I want all the collection ! And it won’t even ruin me 🙂
Trickery reminds me a lot of Illamasqua Wanderlust lipgloss, do you think the two may be “dupes” ?
http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=177649&dupe=146631
There you go!
Trickery looks INCREDIBLE with your eyes. Wowza.
Aw, thanks Kelsey!
Wow, I did not think I would like Trickery from the tube shot, but the swatches are amazing! At $6, that might be worth a try…
Certainly worth some serious consideration 🙂
These are unusual colors, that I wouldn’t usually purchase. But Trickery looks great on you!
Thanks, PM!
Trickery looks really good on you!
Aw, thanks Ankita!
I am squealing with delight at my desk. I love them…
Yayyyy!
For another post idea, it’ll be nice if you do a comparison series by layering a standard red lipstick over each Nyx coloured lipstick. It’ll give us an idea how the layered finish would look like. Thanks 🙂
Thanks for the suggestion! I like to be transparent and honest, so while it’s a great idea, but I am totally swamped with reviews and don’t think it’s something that I have the time to add to my plate right now! I’m really sorry!
Ooooh Trickery is sooo pretty! I’d love to pair this with a wiggle dress and a really sharp cat-eye. What a surprisingly sexy shade!
Awesome! 🙂
Trickery looks GORGEOUS on you!
Thank you!
I wish these were generally socially acceptable; I would totally wear them then. I am just not a rebel.
I totally get what you mean, Katrina!
Ugh, I totally wish I had the balls to wear these types of unconventional lipsticks! They’re so awesome.
They are pretty nifty!
