NYX Prismatic Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)
NYX Prismatic Shadow
Here are the remaining six shades of NYX Prismatic Shadow ($6.00 for 0.043 oz.)! The formula is supposed to be “fully pigmented” with a “brilliant metallic” finish and is available in twelve shades (see part one). Overall, the formula had good color payoff ranging from semi-opaque to opaque with soft, blendable textures that could get a little powdery and had a fair amount of fall out during application, while the wear was typically between seven and eight hours (no primer). I don’t think they’re truly metallic, but they have a good sheen but with more noticeable sparkle/shimmer, so I think they tended to look more frosted than truly metallic. Worth noting, I had originally purchased all twelve from Ulta online, and about half of them arrived broken. I ended up returning those and then purchasing directly from NYX, and only one (Tin) was broken. The formula seems particularly fragile as they are softly pressed into the compacts, so they crumble easily.
NYX Blue Jeans Prismatic Shadow ($6.00 for 0.043 oz.) is described as a “cobalt blue with silver shimmer.” It’s a muted, medium blue with a silvery sheen and frosted finish. It had decent to good pigmentation but looked a little faded at all times. The texture was soft but dry, and it was a shade that worked better with a damp brush (though NYX didn’t mention anything about this being a wet/dry formula from what I read). It lasted for seven hours before fading. MAC Wintersky (LE, $32.50) is darker. Dior Rivage #1 (LE, ) is less shimmery, brighter. Urban Decay Strip (DC, $18.00) is lighter, more muted, cooler. Giorgio Armani #19 (P, $32.00) is lighter. theBalm Pipeline (LE, $16.00) is darker. Urban Decay Dive Bar (P, $18.00) is less shimmery, darker. YSL Wet Blue (10) (P, $30.00) is more shimmery, lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
NYX Frostbite Prismatic Shadow ($6.00 for 0.043 oz.) is described as a “white opalescent with blue pearl.” It’s a bright white with a bluish sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage with a powdery, slightly dry, texture that made it difficult to apply and build up color. It had signs of fading after seven hours of wear. Make Up For Ever D124 Crystalline White (P, $21.00) is warmer. Giorgio Armani Ecailles Black Pearl #4 (LE, ) is less shimmery. Giorgio Armani Ecailles Black Pearl #4 (LE, ) is less shimmery. MAC Pearl (LE, $32.50) is less shimmery. Maybelline Too Cool (P, $6.99) is cooler. MAC Pearl (LE, $32.50) is less shimmery. Maybelline Too Cool (P, $6.99) is cooler. Make Up For Ever D200 Crystalline Mauve Turquoise (P, $21.00) is less shimmery. Too Faced Nutcracker (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. Guerlain Les Nuees #2 (LE, ) is warmer. Milani Bella Diamond (30) (P, $4.49) is less shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
NYX Mermaid Prismatic Shadow ($6.00 for 0.043 oz.) is described as a “opalescent mint with gold shimmer.” It’s a brightened, aqua green with subtle, warm undertones and warmer gold shimmer. It had good pigmentation but was prone to crumbling, so it didn’t smooth out as well on the skin as I would have liked. This was another shade that seemed to apply better with a damp brush or over a slightly tacky base. It faded within seven hours of wear. Lancome Fashion Forward (P, $19.00) is lighter, warmer. Make Up For Ever #53 (LE, $23.00) is warmer. MAC Lucky in Love (LE, $21.00) is darker. CoverGirl Turquoise Glow (325) (LE, $4.99) is darker, warmer. theBalm B2 (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer. Too Faced Joy (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. theBalm #36 (P, $6.50) is warmer. Guerlain Blue Ocean (LE, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer. Anastasia Aqua (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer. Guerlain Blue Ocean (LE, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer. NYX Smoke & Mirrors Prismatic Shadow ($6.00 for 0.043 oz.) is described as a “deep gunmetal grey with silver shimmer.” It’s a charcoal gray with lighter silver sparkle and warm, brownish undertones. It was noticeably sparkly and had some fall out during application as well as during wear, even though the base color lasted for almost eight hours. The texture was almost gritty as the sparkle tended to pull away from the base. Makeup Geek Galaxy (P, $5.99) is less shimmery. Giorgio Armani #21 (LE, $33.00) is darker. Tarina Tarantino Silver Shoes (LE, ) is less shimmery. theBalm Surf’s Up (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. Stila Black Diamond (P, ) is cooler. MAC Smoky Black Friday #3 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker. Chanel Tisse Paris #4 (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. MAC Uninhibited #2 (LE, $21.00) is lighter, warmer. Viseart Diane (P, ) is less shimmery. MAC Bao Bao’s Jewels #5 (LE, ) is lighter, cooler. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
NYX Jaded Prismatic Shadow ($6.00 for 0.043 oz.) is described as a “deep green with light green shimmer.” It’s a muted, dark forest green with soft, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation that blended out easily without being too powdery. The color stayed on well for eight hours before fading. Inglot #414 (P, $6.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Envy (P, $5.99) is less shimmery, darker. Fyrinnae Boot Season (P, $6.80) is warmer. Chanel Tisse Venitien #4 (P, ) is darker, warmer. MAC Legendary Lure (P, $20.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler. Make Up For Ever ME310 Fir Tree Green (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, warmer. Anastasia Emerald (P, $12.00) is lighter, warmer. Too Faced Christmas Tree (LE, $16.00) is brighter, cooler. Urban Decay Floss (LE, $18.00) is darker, cooler. Kat Von D Craft (LE, ) is warmer. Sephora Collection Hidden Treasure (114) (LE, $13.00) is lighter, warmer. Guerlain Les Precieux #1 (LE, ) is lighter, warmer. Milani Bella Emerald (18) (P, $4.49) is brighter, warmer. Clarins Garden Escape #2 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter. Rouge Bunny Rouge Whispering Ibis (P, $19.00) is lighter. NYX Tin Prismatic Shadow ($6.00 for 0.043 oz.) is described as a “metallic silver.” It’s a brightened, light silver with a frosted finish. It had decent to good pigmentation that went on fairly evenly, but it could have been a little smoother on the lid for more even coverage. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Lancome Style Section (P, $19.00) is less shimmery. Buxom Chihuahua (P, $18.00) is darker. Le Metier de Beaute Platinum (P, $30.00) is brighter. The finish is definitely not metallic on these – which is a good thing for me, I prefer shimmer to full metal shadows. There are a few nice shades and for the price, I think it’s worth trying!
Very shimmery but definitely not true metallic!
smoke and mirrors s so beautiful. for some reason, I feel a need to create a look with a color like this paired with a cranberry color!
That would be so pretty!
Frostbite isn’t the most pigmented on it’s own.. but it looks amazing over other colors especially dark ones.
Christine, have you ever considered video swatches? It would be so helpful for duochrome and other similar light specific finishes. It’s just so hard to see the true effect in a still shot. Wouldn’t have to be a whole video.. just a few seconds of footage with movement under good lighting.
Thanks for the suggestion! It’s definitely not something I have the time or set-up to do (I really don’t have the time to add in video swatches on top of what I’m currently putting out content-wise!).
I love the “ice queen” eye look you did! These are such pretty shadows, even if they are temperamental.
Thank you, Rachel! 🙂
Love, love, love Mermaid, Smoke and Mirrors and Jaded – such gorgeous cool toned colours and even Blue Jeans is a great colour too. Fantastic for the price. Your eye look is fabulous, as usual Christine.
Aw, thanks Genevieve!
Love the eye look you did, but I don’t think these shadows are going to hold up well on my oily lids, even with primer. They sound too soft (not enough binders?) and some are powdery. Might work with a NYX Milk pencil
I would be curious if they would – they definitely are very soft, almost crumbly in a way.
When I bought these at Ulta, I got home and they were all broken. I took them back the next day and told them (you could actually tell from the outside they were broken but I didn’t notice when I first bought them by they had JUST gotten them in and I was so excited to find them!!) And I looked to see if I could exchange and every single one on the shelf was also broken. I told them and a week later..same broken shades in the display. They didn’t even take them away!!!
Wow! I can’t believe they didn’t damage them and put them in the back 🙁
Awesomely gorgeous look you created with these, Christine! Reminds me of the sea! I do want Mermaid, and possibly Smoke and Mirrors ( over a Jumbo Pencil or sticky base of some sort). My only concern with these particular Nyx eyeshadows is how painfully FRAGILE they are, WOW. Like pigments, huh?
Thank you, Nancy! These are definitely not products I’d travel with, lol!
As usual I’m gravitating toward the greens–I like both of them–but I like the look of Blue Jeans too.
I like the sheen on Blue Jeans!
I really want to try all of these.
Hope you can check ’em out, Gauri!
Jaded looks nice! The other shades don’t particularly excite me.
Glad ya liked one!
Interesting how many iterations of these are going around..
Options are always good!
I don’t really get metallic from these but I do like Jaded. I could use a shadow like that
They are more of a frost for sure!
You know what I can’t wait to see released? The Kat Von D metal crush collection!!! I think it may be exactly what this NYX collection was trying to aim for… 🙂
That should be fun!
Jaded looks much higher end! Like Armani!
Nice!
