NYX Desert Rose Blush Review, Photos, Swatches

NYX Desert Rose Blush

NYX Desert Rose Powder Blush ($5.99 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “matte burgundy pink.” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark, pink-berry with a soft, pearly finish. Burberry Hydrangea Pink (P, $42.00) is is lighter. MAC Supernova (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, slightly more muted. NARS Mata Hari (P, $29.00) is a touch more matte, cooler-toned. Kevyn Aucoin Neolita (P, $37.00) is warmer, darker. Milani Bella Rosa (11) (P, $7.99) is brighter. Clinique Berry Pop (P, $21.00) is cooler-toned. NARS 413 BLKR (P, $29.00) is slightly more muted, matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX describes their powder blush formula in a way that’s pretty confusing: “delivers sheer, silky color that glides on,” followed by “the formula is richly-pigmented and lasts for hours.” ULTA’s description says “highly pigmented,” “rich color,” and “rich pigmentation.” I’m going to interpret that as a more buildable formula that can be applied more subtly but is still very pigmented and can be applied with true-to-pan color, but I think NYX should clarify or update their description to avoid confusion. It is nicely pigmented with fairly true-to-pan color payoff, and the texture is soft, a little powdery, but blendable on the skin, which is much appreciated given the brightness of this shade. The color wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

I end up wearing it lightly applied since I really enjoy wearing bold looks. I’ll usually wear this with a smokey purple eye or pink lip. But if it’s a simple black liner, mascara and gloss sort of day, I’ll build it up just a little more :).

I own Desert Rose, as well as, Coco, Copper, Orange and Mocha. I also enjoy wearing their blush sticks. Mocha is one of my go-to shades. I am a MAC NC50, MUFHD 177.

Wow, that is quite pigmented! I’m very pale, so I’d probably just tap my brush on the surface, tap off excess, THEN put it on, lol!

Also, did anyone else think of the Sting song by the same name when they saw this? It is now stuck in my head.

Dia Avatar

I thought of that song, too! I’m going to put this blush on my list of things to check out at Ulta, even though I’d get an earworm every time I see the name.

I have this color, Mocha and another similar one (maybe Amber?). I bought them all at the same time about a year ago, and since then they have all seemed to fade to the same color. Have you noticed this with any of your NYX blushes?
