NYX Coconut, Black Sesame, Chambord Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

NYX Coconut Lippie
NYX Macaron Lippie

NYX Coconut Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a bright, cool-toned white with a creamy, satin finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, but due to the really creamy, slippery consistency, it didn’t go on as evenly as one would want. It lasted for four and a half hours on me and wasn’t drying nor hydrating. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Iced (P, $18.00) is very shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NYX Black Sesame = Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a light-medium, neutral-to-warm-toned gray with a creamy, satin finish. This shade was opaque, and it applied very well with even, smooth color. The texture of the lipstick was still creamy and emollient, but it didn’t prove to make application problematic. The color wore well for five hours on me and wasn’t drying nor hydrating. I don’t have any dupes for this one!

NYX Chambord Macaron Lippie ($6.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a deep, dark black with neutral undertones and a glossy sheen. Despite having a high slip, very creamy texture, it applied fairly well. There was enough pigmentation that what little unevenness there was managed to to recede into the background for the most part. This shade lasted for six hours when I tested it and wasn’t drying nor hydrating. If you prefer a matte finish, you could lightly dust a matte black eyeshadow on top or translucent powder. Kat Von D Slayer (P, $21.00) is more matte, sheerer, lighter. MAC Hautecore (LE, $16.00) is very similar in color. Make Up For Ever #50 (P, $19.00) is the same in color. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I use Black Sesame with Melt Cosmetics Space Cake (a darker gray) because the emolient slip of NYX works well with the impossible dryness of Melt 😛 Makes for an awesome gray ombre. It’s hard to find good gray lip colors and Black Sesame is definitely up there. Going to try mixing it with OCC Sebastian soon. The Macaron formula has too much slip for me on its own, but it really shines in layering.

Me too. Painful. I wish I could find a dupe for Space Cake (which, to be fair, isn’t quite as dry as By Starlight). I made the mistake of ordering two Melt lippies long ago, way before your reviews on them, at the same time. If I take a chunk off one and mix it in a palette with something with more slip, it’s okay….ish. Too much work for a look for most 😛 I hope NYX does a good darker slate gray one day.

Honestly really glad to hear you don’t have any Lime Crime. I was around for their fiasco years ago and don’t like how everyone is jumping on the bandwagon now they’ve tried to “fix” themselves.

Generally just not a fan and won’t purchase their products.

I honestly didn’t think I could like or respect you more than I did but this truly does up it to a whole new level to know you truly stick to what you believe in and don’t nor won’t waiver on it for whatever reasons/excuses people say for you to do so. Thank you so much for this.

I’d definitely pick up the black one if I saw it in a store. All three would be great for mixing/layering. I’m impressed with the formula of the gray one. And even though you said it was tricky, the white one looks pretty smooth!

I keep meaning to say as an adventurer myself (I alternate depending on group/game usually between DPS magic types) how much I have long-adored your blog. Get thyself a black lippie, hun. This one is nice, Lip Tar’s Tarred is excellent and pairs with it well, and Illamasqua does a great black gloss. Lip Tar has a black gloss I like a lot too (Little Black Dress), but it’s more for smoking and vamping up a look than actual patent black. Illamasqua Repulse is actual patent black. Another best of is definitely Portland Black Lipstick Company (I know Vintage Underground in Chicago sells them in-store, but they’re definitely worth trying straight online and do samples too). Their formula is nice and thick and less emolient than others while still having perfect comfort.

If you like sparkly black, Batty from OCC is great. MUFE makes a good black too IIRC. But I haven’t touched too many since getting Tarred.

*O_O* That’s SO kind of you, Celia! *waves to fellow adventurer* 😀 It’s funny that you should say this here – Christine was my #1 inspiration to start beauty blogging! I did (and obviously still do) admire her honesty, efficiency, humour and mad eyeshadow skillz , LOL!

*All the blog love warm fuzzies*

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions 😀 Tarred and Batty sound pretty awesome 😉

Hello fellow adventurers! I like to take a huge twohand sword and hit the bosses with all the might I can muster up. If I can’t do that I use my bow and command my ferocious cat to kill.
I also read your blog, Syl. Wellwritten, fun and unusual, with photos that makes me smile.
And go for the black lipstick, you’ll blend in so well with the walls in the deep dungeons.

Sylirael Avatar

Hi Helene! 😀 A two hander and a bow AND an attack-cat?! I need to take you with me on my next adventure, LOL!
I think you’re right about a black lipstick. How can a stealthy rogue *not* have one? Time to spend some time up there in Christine’s Swatch Gallery, methinks… 😉

I don’t want any of these but I’m stoked at how awesome the reviews for these are! I honestly expected most of them to pretty much flop – I’m not entirely sure why as I like NYX, but a lot of these seem like difficult colors. So this is pretty awesome , especially for those who do want them 😀

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

I want NYX Black Sesame and Chambord. White is a hard one to get right so I’ll stick with white gel products on the lips. lol

Black Sesame seems like a strange name to a lot of people but it is the shade you get in Japanese Black Sesame ice cream. Or if you add ground black sesame to a macaron base you get a similar shade.

Wow, I commented first, yet it’s still pending while the others show? Weird. Anyway, Bite Cava is a beautiful lilac beige if you’re looling to dupe chinchilla! My lips are strongly pigmented so a bit of this platinum-like shade makes a robust healthy look! (Not opaquely all over)

Just missed it – so sorry! There are about 15 comments still pending on this post, along with about 100 other ones. I try my best, but sometimes I can only get to some initially (but I always try to reply later) and they aren’t always in order! Again, my deepest apologies.

Ok, I get Coconut is a white, but why is Black Sesame a gray? And Chambord is a raspberry liquer, so shouldn’t it be more of a berry color?

Catriona Avatar

Has anyone seen these in stores, or are they only available online? I’ve looked almost everywhere thinking I would find them, and now I won’t have Risque for Halloween! 🙁

Annette Avatar

how does the limecrime lipsticks match overall with the NYX Wicked and Macaroon collections? they look like they have similar shades.

I am curious about how LimeCrime’s chinchilla is to the NYX Black Sesame Macaron or the Earl Gray Lippies?

Renee Avatar

I like Lime Crime. So far NYX lippies haven’t worked well for me. They are a bit oily. I don’t know what kind of issues Lime Crime had in the past, but right now their services and lipstick is Awesome. My fav lipsticks are their Velvetines. I also have a few Melt shaes By Starlight and Space Cake. I love Space Cake, it goes on well and looks Marvelous on me. By Starlight color isn’t what is showing on the site so I’m not pleased with it and it’s way to dry, difficult to put on without a lip balm.
