NARS Spring 2012: Valparaiso Pure Matte Lipstick

NARS Valparaiso Pure Matte Lipstick ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “rich raspberry.” It’s a rich raspberry with a slight emphasis on the berry portion. It has a very slightly frosted sheen. The color provides full coverage in a single pass. Guerlain Nuit d’Amour is redder, less pink. MAC Red Dwarf is less red, pinker. MAC Rebel is more berry-like. Guerlain Bee is purpler. MAC Wild ‘Bout You is redder, less pink.

Pure Matte lipsticks are supposed to be long-wearing and opaque with a consistency that glides on and wears comfortably. They also contain wild mango butter to better hydrate lips. What’s nice about the formula is there enough creaminess for even application, easy glide, but not so much that it slips around the lips or causes bleeding or feathering. Valparaiso is definitely opaque in one pass, and it wore for six and a half hours for me and left behind a slight stain. It’s not the most moisturizing formula I’ve tried, but it’s definitely one of the more hydrating matte (or nearly matte) lipstick formulas. I’ve had the best luck with the darker shades in this range, while lighter ones tend to be a little less forgiving.

Wow, this is even prettier than I thought it would be- exactly my kind of shade. It looks lovely with the other colours you have on as well- I’m guessing that might be the eye shadow trio…

Christine like always, you look stunning, you can pull off any look. That is a beautiful look. What blush are you wearing, I am sorry but I am a blush lover. Thanks a lot.

This is really pretty on you – i like these colours with my blonde hair and blue eyes but they do bring out the red in my skintone especially in photos!!

Beautiful!
Nars is pushing the envelope on a modern make up aesthetic constantly! And what’s really amazing is that it’s all investment make up, like an expensive but perfect pair of black trousers you’ll wear forever. MAC is doing truly cutting edge work too, but in the US people get hysterical because it isn’t like their high school make up… Anyway I’ll be buying this! After the Pink Pigeon debacle I bought a Schiap Pink Lipstick and am through with that game.
And that new blush will be mine too. Looks like a good year for blue girls, the cosmetics world admits we exist again.

Gorgeous. A rich red is always a red worth having in my book. 😀

On a sidenote, you’ve been nailing it with the makeup lately in these posts. I can’t think of a single look you’ve done this month that I haven’t liked or wanted to try myself!
