NARS Tropical Princess Eyeshadow Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS Tropical Princess Eyeshadow Duo
NARS Tropical Princess Eyeshadow Duo ($35.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new, limited edition duo for summer. If you really liked the texture and application of Kauai, I think you’re going to be pleased with this duo as well! It felt very similar to me; soft, smooth, buttery, and silky with excellent color payoff. Both shades from this duo wore well for almost eight hours before starting to crease slightly (no primer). I would say this duo felt a little softer and not quite as “thick,” and it didn’t wear for quite as long as Kauai, but the texture is really lovely to work with (Kauai was just perfect!). This duo is slated for release on NARS’ website on April 15th, then it will roll out to other retailers beginning of May.
Tropical Princess #1 is described as a “neon lemon lime.” It’s a bright pop of chartreuse that leans green (not yellow) with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. The pigmentation was very nice and true-to-pan, while the texture was soft and buttery and very easy to use. MAC Chartreuse Bouquet (LE, $21.00) is slightly darker, less metallic. Kat Von D Birdcage (LE) is more muted. CoverGirl Lime Light (310) (LE, $4.99) is slightly greener. NARS Rated R #1 (P, $24.00) is less shimmery. Dior Garden Pastels #1 (LE) is darker, greener. Make Up For Ever #304 (P, $20.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tropical Princess #2 is described as an “icy lavender.” It’s a very light, lavender-tinged white with a metallic finish. It applies a lot lighter than it looks in the pan due to the incredibly reflective, metallic sheen it gives off–it brightened the lid well, but on me, the “lavender” part of the color tended to get lost. On cooler complexions, or if paired with cooler eyeshadows, I think it may be more prominent. The color payoff was great, though, and the texture felt like butter and silk. Tarina Tarantino Diamond Dusk #1 (LE) is darker. Urban Decay Aura #2 (LE, $18.00) is similar. MAC Fresh Ice (LE, $21.00) is less metallic. bareMinerals Flash (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

This duo is gorgeous!! I love the eye look from the promo picture too, April 15th cannot come soon enough!
Happy hauling! 🙂
Very cute but it reminds me a bit too much of a hybrid of 2 duos I got recently – Nouveau Monde and Tokyo. Not the same and not dupes but just very similar to the point where I don’t know if there’s much point in getting this one.
Can definitely see the same kind of “vibe,” in a way!
Well, much as I’ll probably try to tell myself that I have no need of this, it’s beyond likely that I’ll see it and buy it (or by the other duo or buy both) AND I have to get Baalbek….I am so itching for that too.
It reminds me of a bolder cousin to Egea, which I recently picked up, but I still can’t resist-especially since it’s LE…
At first look I too thought of Egea, but yes, brighter, bolder
Sooo pretty! I have April 15 marked on my calendar, and plan to pick up both duos & the single, and *possibly* the eye pencil.
Nice! 😀
I really like this as a spring duo. It’s interesting enough, definitely feels spring-like, and is done well! it looks great on you Christine. I’d love to see someone rock this with a “radiant orchid” lip.
Thank you, Andie!
That would look gorgeous! I don’t normally go for shades like this, but there is something about this that I just love and need to find an excuse to wear!
Kauai really was just perfect, wasn’t it? This is pretty, but I like that Kauai is like its more pigmented older sister (well, the purple…well, I guess they’re opposites!), so I think I can skip this one. 🙂
Shani x
It was sooo lovely!
I need that chartreuse eyeshadow in my life o___o
It’s a nice shade of chartreuse!
The duo is nice!!!! getting a shade like lavender right is really rare!!! 🙂
Very true!
How pretty and soft! I also have nothing similar in my stash
That’s a major plus 🙂
I love the color combo, that green is amazing!
It works surprisingly well!
I like these in theory but they seem for the cool toned and so maybe not right for me….am I judging them wrong? I was so excited about this duo…
The green is warm-toned, but the lavender is cool-toned!
This is a great duo!
Agreed!
The green shadow is so pretty!! I really wish it came in a single
Maybe one day 🙂
I love the lemon lime!
Me too!
What stunning shadessss 🙂
how I wish I can start playing with eyeshadow again 🙁 🙁
Aww!
Chartreuse is one of my favourite weird colours that works on me. I like this pairing a lot!
I loveee chartreuse… as long as it doesn’t go too yellow.
#1 looks very similar to Buxom Stay There in Shih Tzu. I love that color, could it be a possible dupe? Didn’t see it on the dupe list.
Shih Tzu is darker!
So pretty, and so spring-y! Hooray for chartreuse, and unconventional colour combinations! 😀
Totally agree, Sylirael!
I like the combination of colors, which I find sort of unexpected and very pretty!
Right? I love how it turned out!
I love these colors, but especially the green!
Not at all surprised to hear the green stole your heart 🙂
gorgeous!! Love the delicate but uncommon colors
They’re both nice!
This is such an unexpected combination, but it looks beautiful and I love the purple shade!
Yay!!
Great review of the duo! I love the example shots too – very springlike and wonderful to see it showcased 🙂
Thanks, Alex!
Oh boy… This is just lovely. Based on the promo pictures, I’m interested in all the shadows from this collection and if they’re all this kind of quality, I’m going to be in trouble.
If all of NARS’ eyeshadows were more like this and Kauai, I would be a happy camper.
This a very unique pairing! I kind of really like it, the lime color is gorgeous for spring:)
It works!
Oh swoon, this is dreamy. It looks really stunning on you.
Thanks, Faith!
The lime green shade looks perfect for beaches.. the duo is gorgoeus.. 🙂
You’re so right, Poo!
I would never in a million years even think of buying a color like that on my own. I learn so much here!
This actually looks really pretty! Plus I never would have known how to actually wear it. You’re awesome Christine!
Aww 🙂 Thanks, Linda! Have NARS to thank though, since I don’t think I’d have normally thought to pair these two shades together!
I love both of these shades. The only thing holding me back is that they aren’t two shades I would wear together on my lids and I like my duos to go together. So would need to add something else to have a complete look.
I totally get that!
Ohhhh gorgeous!!!!!!!!! Afraid it would look horrible on me though 🙁 Oh well..
Aww, I bet it wouldn’t!
are the shades well pigmented in a single swatch ?
That’s what is shown in the swatches in the post.
Hi Christine,
I truly love the look you created, so beautiful and inspiring, I will try to recreate it using aura and birdcage for sure! Just yesterday I used too faced Tinsel and Urban Decay Betrayal to recreate the look of Nars Kauai. I am enjoying your dupe list! Thank you!
I’m humbled to have inspired you, Karen! 🙂 Thank you!
Love the icy lavender!
Glad you liked it! 🙂
I very much like this paring, and it came at a great time in my life! I’m really attracted to the color lime green this season. Also nice that I don’t have any shades like this in my collection.
Yay! I’m all over chartreuse/lime/green. I hope you enjoy it, Celine!
I think I might get this instead of the UD electric palette, which I only wanted for the chartreuse anyway. The purple reminds me of this Revlon shade in high school in the nineties I was obsessed with, I had the eyeshadow & matching lipstick too, I think it was called Virtual Violet…crazy frosted, I don’t think I’d do the lips now but I love purples and greens together and these are light enough to work on me…and I LOVE everything about Kauai so its hard to say no to this!
Sounds like a better plan if you’re just on the hunt for a chartreuse! 🙂
Hehe, when I first saw this duo I immediately thought “Wohoo! Chartreuse! Christine will be happy 😀 So I’m really glad it performed well to match. I just love this colour combination…
Still not sure it would look fabulous on my blue-based face, but maybe as an accent in another look…
I know there’s a way to make it work 😉
why arent these at sephora? ive watched since april and they have the collection photo but are displaying kalahari and rated r, not tropical princess and lost coast. the website has never had them. no one ive inquired with about it at sephora knows why and werent aware of the new duos.
I have no idea!
