Summer Solstice
NARS Summer Solstice 9-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.45 oz.) is a new, limited edition warm-toned color story that featured two matte shades and seven shimmer shades (which varied from softer, pearl-like sheen to higher sparkle). Most of the eyeshadows were pigmented, blendable, and wore well, though there were a few shades that worked better with a dampened brush or a fingertip or were prone a bit of fallout either during application or during wear.

Delirium is a light copper with moderate, warm undertones–more of a copper, orange base paired with lighter, golden pearl throughout. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The texture was soft, lightly creamy but not thick or too thin, which made it easy to apply and blend out. This shade stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

The formula is supposed to have "rich, high-impact color" that is "lightweight" and has "increased blendability." Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks "melted" on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.
Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS' eyeshadows for years and didn't change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.
Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

Seduced is a light, golden copper with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling finish. I’d recommend using this shade with a dampened brush or fingertip, which helped the sparkles to bind better with the base color and minimized fallout. Applied dry, there was light fallout during application–both in pressing it on and blending out the edges–as the texture was a touch drier than ideal. Indian Wells
Indian Wells is a medium-dark red with strong, warm orange undertones and flecks of finer copper pearl throughout. It had a denser, more emollient consistency, so it tended to apply better with a fingertip or dampened brush. It worked decently with a dry brush really pressed and patted on, but the blending was more challenging with a dry brush. It had opaque pigmentation that lasted nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have "rich, high-impact color" that is "lightweight" and has "increased blendability." Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks "melted" on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.
Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS' eyeshadows for years and didn't change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.
Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

Now to the palette – let’s just say that I think this is one of Nars’s best ones. I love the colour story – being into all kinds of rose gold/bronzey and copper shades. It may be one that I will get this for Mother’s Day…always love makeup for that day.
Oh look – a palette full of “this has already been done BEFORE”. Having said that, there are a few shades I rather like – Seven Heaven for it’s “Nymeria/Soba-ness”, Delirium and Morongo (?) for their versatility and Thar because it is another of those colours I’m often drawn to. But they are shades for which I have dupes already because these colours HAVE been done before. Because of my enduring soft spot for Nars, though, I’m glad this scored well.
I felt the same when I saw it launched — like NARS has done this scheme a lot without a lot of in-between palettes that are different, so it felt a little lazy to me as a release — but the way some shades felt were nice!
It’s not even just Nars….to my eye, at least, it looks like a lot of palettes from so many other companies (and heavy on the orange-y bronzes and reds that I don’t wear much or at all).
Same. I realized I’d only purchased two palettes in three years and they used to be easy for me to pick up. Turns out it’s because while I wear RED eyeshadow, I don’t do pink; and everything released within the last three or four years has been pink. Pink and pinky brown. Pink and pinky bronze. Pink and pinky mauve. Pink and pinky red. Pink and pinky purple. Pink. Barf. I’m pretty over it.
I just ordered this & for some reason thought oh I might’ve missed the review 😅 but then I couldn’t find it … but I really love these shades & although I prob have dupes I really don’t get NARS palettes … so I blindly got it during the Sephora sale 🥰 very happy it got a good review 😄
Ooh, look, another Nars pink-theme eye palette in pretty packaging that the clasp will break on in a month. Not saying it’s isn’t cohesive. It’s just tired and not my cup of tea.
