I don’t know, I feel like Nars is going a little too out there, at least with their eye colors. I just don’t find the reds and yellows to be wearable. The lip colors look nice though!

Elyse Avatar

Usually NARS excites me, but not this time. Ah well, money saved, right? Of course, my mind can be changed once reviews come out, haha!

Wwendalynne Avatar

This collection is not appealing to me whatsoever and the more conservative lip colours are not particularly special either. No powder blush product? Boooo! Definitely not a collection after my heart.

From what I’ve read, the rise of the slim, androgynous model was a result of the fashion industry wanting women to model clothes whose appearance wouldn’t distract from the clothes themselves. i.e. Models are the equivalent of a stage prop rather than a lead actor.

*ahem* Anything is wearable. I am so tired of people saying only neutral colours are wearable. Your taste is your your taste, whether brights or neutrals, but bright colours are not NOT wearable. A red eyeshadow isn’t going to jump out of your hand and run away.

That eyeliner looks really nice but I don’t know if I’d pay 24 dollars for it.

Ellen Avatar

I disagree. When I said red and yellow are not wearable, I meant on me. I really do think there are colors that don’t flatter certain people, and those I think are a couple that don’t work on my complexion.

t_zwiggy Avatar

I’m sure most people are talking about what THEY would feel comfortable wearing. I agree that everything is wearable if it suits your personal style. I usually add that it’s not for me when I say something like that, though, just to make sure I’m not offending anyone.

The eyeliner is the only thing here that catches my attention. I’m not sure if I’d wear it, but it’s certainly not a color you see very often for eyeliner.

The multiple and the lipstick look promising. I like the way that South Beach multiple looks on me (particularly in the summer), but it doesn’t seem to last. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s a cream and my cheeks are a bit oily in the summer or if the product performs that way for everyone.

If the lipstick is the one the model is wearing in the picture, I’ll almost certainly pick that up.

t_zwiggy Avatar

Do you have any idea if the lipstick has the “sheer” formula or the other ones? The NARS sheer is one of my favorites, and I would LOVE one in this color.

xamyx Avatar

I actually really like those, and they wear like iron on me, so I hope they don’t change! I can see why others would, though; I’m that rare bird that has no issues with any eye pencils, with the exception of UD 24/7 pencils (go figure, LOL).

Dana Avatar

I don’t really get the appeal of the model either…she always looks angry to me, and the lack of eyebrows only accentuates how unusual she looks. If they want to detract from the model, they ought to use real-looking women, people you’d see everyday — not odd-looking stick figures without eyebrows. :/

As for the collection — personally I really like the high-pigmented, bright colors NARS has been putting out lately. But I can get away with them because my undertone is very neutral, so I can rock brighter colors if I want most of the time. I like that this yellow is a firm yellow, and not so much a gold — I get tired of seeing the same old stuff every year. 🙂

Maggie Avatar

i think NARS needs some work in their marketing department…their products are gorgeous, but it almost seems like they go out of their way to have advertisements that make their products look as hideous as possible…

i like the eyeliner.

Lolita Avatar

To all of you complaining about the model: I’m pretty sure the reason they chose her and chose to do her makeup the way they did was because they were going for a David Bowie look, i.e. the “sexy futuristic glam” the press release mentioned. It’s weird coming on a makeup blog and reading a bunch of comments slamming another woman for her looks.
As for the collection, I LOVE the experimental colors! I wish they were releasing a powder blush instead of a multiple (i HATE multiples), but the seafoam eyeliner, single eyeshadow, and the velvet matte lip pencil (praying it’s a gorgeous opaque formula instead of a chalky sheer mess) are all gorgeous!

dia Avatar

Thank you for defending Stella! Shouldn’t we be embracing women of all types of beauty? I think she rocks the “sexy futuristic glam” very well!

I’m personally looking forward to swatches on Fashion Rebel. It’s so hard to find a good yellow eyeshadow.

blueraccoon Avatar

Not if we don’t find it beautiful and find it alarming instead…this particular look doesn’t appeal to me at all, and while I can’t speak to what NARS was thinking in their marketing department, the end result is that the promo picture leaves me absolutely cold on the collection. The pictures of the items themselves are more interesting.

Katie Avatar

I used to LOVE nars but I can’t even remember the last time I purchased something from it. I do like that seafoam green eye pencil, though.

xamyx Avatar

This is the third consecutive NARS collection that does nothing for me, if you include the Warhol disappointment… The *only* thing that appeals to me (so far) is the purple in the duo, but I highly doubt I’ll pick it up, since I can’t imagine the yellow on my eyes. Hopefully, the purple will be close to something I have already, or I may have to bite the bullet.

Paige Avatar

The eye shadow duo looks similar to the discontinued Bysance in which I luckily bought it for $10 off Sephora.

Other than that, the eye liner looks interesting. I would be interested in the gloss too but I hate the skimpy brush that it comes with–so difficult to apply gloss on the go. I won’t buy this line of gloss until they change the applicator to a doe foot one.

lafemmetopaz Avatar

You can use the gloss with a regular lip brush and it works just fine.

I place the gloss from the applicator on the back of hand, pick it up with the lip brush and apply it with more precision than the applicator can. It’s alot more hygienic too;especially if you’re washing your hand before applying makeup.

blueraccoon Avatar

I’m left with a resounding “…eh.” The lipstick looks interesting but I probably have dupes or similar shades, and the velvet matte lip pencil looks interesting but odds are it’ll be too pale for me to wear properly. The rest is a total pass. NARS just isn’t a brand I buy a lot of, and I’m really okay with that.

lafemmetopaz Avatar

I’ll be picking up all the lips products with this collection. I love lavender color on the lips. I can already see myself pairing it with the Nars Larger Than Life lip gloss in Born This Way or the Nars gloss in Downtown.

Nicoletta Avatar

I think the collection looks amazing, I love the bright colours! I’m not sure how to wear the eyeshadows though. Maybe Christina has some ideas? Nobody’s seriously gonna go with that promotional over the eyebrow look…I know it’s supposed to be all David Bowie and artsy, but in real live it’s just gonna look like you got punched and the blue bruises are starting to turn to a violet-yellowish before fading.

Denise Avatar

What’s up with that creepy looking model? The colors of this collection are actually pretty but not feeling how they made up the model!
