NARS Spring 2012: Gaiety Blush

NARS Gaiety Blush ($28.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “bright candy pink.” It’s a light-medium cotton candy pink; it has a strong blue base, so it reads cool-toned. It has decent to good color payoff, but it tends to need layering and building to achieve color if you are light-medium or darker. Compared to some of NARS’ other blushes, which may be considered hyper-pigmented, it is rather soft and you won’t need a light hand with it.  It has a natural matte finish, which means it doesn’t look totally flat but still looks mostly matte against the skin. MAC Azalea Blossom is darker and purpler. I don’t think I own NARS Desire, which seems like it may not be quite as cool-toned. NARS Angelika has less of a blue-base, is more of a medium pink, and includes sparkle.

The texture is very soft and finely-milled, and the lightness in color certainly saves it from looking too cool-toned against my skin tone, so I don’t think the blue-base would make it a no-go for warmer skin tones. It will definitely flatter cooler complexions, though. When I tested the wear of NARS’ newest blush, it wore for eight hours and looked fairly good at that point.

You appear to be right, NARS Desire seems much yellower, and much pinker, whereas this looks to be purpler, though not at much so as Azalea Blossom.

I think I’ll probably get this, it looks right up my alley!

Christine, how does this blush compare to Benefit’s Hervana? This one seems a little cooler, but I don’t know how heavily swatched the blush is in your photo. One of my New Years resolutions is to cut down on the number of dupes I buy. lol Thanks!

The color looks nice on you. It is a very soft pink that looks subtle and smooth. However, the swatch looks a bit chalky. Despite it looking nice on you, I would save my money for something else like NARS Lhasa eyeshadow. 🙂

Wow, this is really pretty cool-toned, but you pull it off very well! I’m just a blush beginner so I might want to first stick to warm-toned ones that I know will work on me. Give me a bit of time and I’ll start experimenting for sure!

LoVinG the lipstick on you! And what are you wearing on your eyes. Your eyes look amazing.
The blush is lovely but the eyes and lips are fabulous!

That is so pretty on you! I’m a NC42 gal, can you please do a tute on pink eyeshadows? I’m interested in using pink eyeshadows but they scare me. :/

It looks like pink swoon kind of when swatched? Oh and is the price $24 or $28? You have two different prices listed so I was just wondering. Thanks for the review! It is very much appreciated 🙂

This looks so great for my fair skin! The cotton-candy pinks always seem to have sparkles in them which I tend to avoid. I must test this out in store 🙂

Pink Swoon is not so delicate a blush as Gaiety, honestly speaking I have more than 40 blushes here ( Nars, M.A.C, Chanel, T. Leclerc, Lancôme, Benefit, Cargo ) and they are really all different and look diffent on my skin ( medium ). That’s why I think this one is pretty. François Nars is a very talented artistic Director of his own brand, almost every Nars product is close to perfection.

this looks exactly like an elf blush i have (its called “pink passion”). I would say, spend $3 on the elf blush (based on what Christine says, it is exactly the same) as opposed to spending $28 on the NARS blush. I have never tried a NARS blush, but I can pretty much guarantee that the quality is better than Elf.

I’m fair and cool-toned and this blush is AH-MAZING on me! If you have the right coloring, this blush is a must-have! Someone commented that it looks a little chalky and it’s not chalky at all.

Do you think this will suits me? I am N25-NC30 with yellow undertones and Asian. If not, what do you recommend? I like to have a pink blusher similar to this.
