NARS Europa, Giove, Lysithea, & Syocrax Dual Intensity Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
NARS Europa Dual Intensity Eyeshadow
This review features the last four shades of the new ($29.00 for 0.05 oz. each) which are set to launch on July 1st. You can see part one and part two for the other shades in the formula. Generally, the formula has a soft consistency, feels smooth, and applies softer and/or sheerer dry than when it is applied wet–this aspect was NARS’ goal, though, but whether you consider it adding to its versatility or an extra step you don’t have time for will be a personal call. I get shorter wear when I apply the shades dry than when I apply them with a dampened brush. For a more in-depth look at how this compares to a couple of other formulas, check out my first review of these. There will be a round-up shortly.
NARS Europa Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “gossamer pink peach.” It’s a light peach with a hint of pink and a satiny finish. This was the least shimmery shade in the entire range, and it was also one of the less pigmented shades. It had a thinner, almost drier texture, which I think contributed to why it swatched very sheer when applied dry. Applied with a dampened brush, it was more semi-opaque but still a little faded in color. On me, it lasted six hours applied dry, six and a half hours applied damp. Too Faced Cowboy Take Me Away (P, $16.00) is a touch lighter. Sephora Collection Desert Rose (90) (P, $13.00) is warmer. Too Faced Whiskers on Kittens (LE, $16.00) is similar. Too Faced Spike the Punch (LE, $16.00) is warmer. Wet ‘n’ Wild Newport Nights #2 (LE) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Giove Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “navy.” It’s a blackened navy blue with navy shimmer and pearly finish. It was sheer applied dry and looked darker and almost dry, and it was fully opaque applied with a dampened brush. It lasted for six and a half hours dry, eight hours wet. Too Faced Heavy Metal (P, $16.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Ocean Breeze (P, $5.99) is lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Emerald Lust #4 (LE) is similar. Guerlain Les Gris #3 (P) is similar. Le Metier de Beaute Midnight Sky (P, $30.00) is brighter. Make Up For Ever #81 (P, $20.00) is slightly cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Lysithea Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “shark grey.” It’s a subtly warm-toned gray with silver shimmer and a frosted finish. It was very sheer applied dry, mostly opaque applied wet. It lasted six hours applied dry and closer to eight hours when applied with a dampened brush. Kat Von D Santeria (LE) is darker, cooler. NARS Bad Behaviour (LE, $24.00)
NARS Sycorax Dual Intensity Eyeshadow ($29.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “black.” It’s a medium-dark black with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. Applied dry, it was semi-sheer in terms of color coverage but looked faded, more like a blackened brown, and didn’t apply very evenly, and lasted six and a half hours. Applied with a dampened brush, it was mostly opaque and lasted longer–eight hours. Ulta Night Sky (P, $10.00) is similar. Dior Nocturne (091) (P, $30.00) is a cream product. MAC Blackground (P, $18.50) is a cream product. MAC Dark Dare (LE, $19.50) is darker. Estee Lauder Violet Underground #4 (LE, $21.00) is cooler-toned, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I love the look of Lysithea
It’s an interesting gray!
I’m really digging Giove and ,call me crazy , but I really like the sheerness of syocrax too. I may get it in hopes that it will serve the same role as Mekong but will be a little less intense.
I hope it works for you, Lioness!
Though there are few really cool shades I loved, at $29 I wish they performed well all across the shades!
I hear ya, Vineetha!
I liked Giove and Lysithea a lot from the original photos. I still like them but some of these dupes seem to give the same look with better results!
They are definitely dupable!
The blue actually looks really nice! Black isn’t ~*too*~ bad.
LOL! Not “too” bad at $29. Ringing endorsement, I see! 😉
It really is a shame that these are so sheer when used dry.
It seems like that’s what they wanted 🙁
Went to NARS Malaysia this week, and I wasnt really impressed with its latest eye color collections. And this is major turn off. Kat Von D’s Santeria looks better tho.
Aww, that is too bad 🙁 Did anything else catch your eye while you were there?
Giove is nice, but as always I guess I was secretly hoping for something with more blue and less black in it – I tend to want my navy shadows to swatch as pure navy, not as black with blue sheen 😉 Perhaps I’m being too picky, LOL!
They’re hard to find 🙁
The more I read your swatches and reviews, the more I feel they’re not unique colors and I’m not impressed even if I’m a big fan of Nars. They made me disappointed (or not impressed) for the past few years whenever I bought new items.:(
Aww 🙁
Giove looks soo amazing! I really want it! <3
Let me know if you end up giving it a shot, Ritu!
Europa would make such a gorgeous highlighter too!! 🙂
I think it would!
LYSITHEA! Gorgeous!
It’s more unique!
