NARS Holiday 2010: Downtown

NARS Downtown Lipgloss ($24.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a darkened mauve-plum with brightened fuchsia-plum shimmer. It has a high gloss shine, and it is surprisingly thick. I actually found this gloss to be rather thick and tacky, while NARS’ Lipglosses are known for their non-sticky texture. Stickiness aside, I really loved this shade–it seemed different than the usual plums. I loved that it was opaque, but the shimmer and shine almost made it seem metallic when worn.

The texture of this particular gloss felt so different from other NARS’ Lipglosses; the stickiness was one thing, but this was very thick, too.  I don’t mind a tacky gloss myself, but if non-sticky is a must-have, I would pass on this or else try it in-store first.  I did not notice any scent (plastic, wax, or otherwise), though.

This is actually really pretty, and I know you said this one didn’t have a scent, but I don’t like the scent of my Nars gloss now, and I think they are pricey for what they are.

I like it. It kind of looks like a lighter lipgloss version of MAC’s Odyssey lipstick. I’m not yet sure if I will purchase this one, though.

I tried this on the other day in Sephora, and its so pretty on ( Nw-45ish skin , pink lips ). Only thing I didnt like was the texture, it was ridiculously thick just like you said .

OMG I have been SEARCHING for a color like this…I had this GREAT mini gloss I got with a clinique GWP a while ago that I just finished (and they apparently do not carry) that looks almost identical. Thanks for posting!

Does it seem to you that a lot comes out on the wand, more so than normal? Or maybe it’s just so thick that it makes me think that. It is a pretty color though.

Gorgeous color and shimmer! I do love the somewhat “metallic” effect. Too bad there isn’t an exact MAC dupe, though, cuz I’m not willing to dish out $24 for ONE lipgloss.

I love this gloss! It really is a very unique colour, very pigmented which is nice. I don’t think it is sticky to a bothersome point, and the wear time is longer because of the thickness of it. Two thumbs up!

I snatched this one up during Sephora’s Friends and Family sale… I love it, it’s beautiful on its own and does such interesting things to my lipsticks when I use it to layer! I didn’t notice a problem with it being sticky, but then again, I have been using a smaller amount and wearing it sheer…

Wow, very nice! Is the plum-ishness similar to Benefit’s Breakup Rumor lipstick at all? (I ask because Breakup Rumor is an amazing lipstick and I’ve been looking for a gloss to go with it!)

This was my first NARS Lipgloss purchase 🙂 pity I’ve been sick for two weeks and have an allergic reaction on my upper lip so I haven’t een wearing any lip products :((

i usually steer clear from colors like this.. they’re a bit out of my comfort zone lol. but seeing how nice it looks on you makes me REALLLYYY want it :(. it’s like the perfect color for fall and winter LOL. and it’s amazingly flattering with the eye makeup you have on 😀

I’m starting to worry that NARS is changing their formula for their lipgloss…I bought Oasis and was shocked by how sticky and thick it was (just as you described here). If it weren’t for the fact that I LOVE the color I’d return it! Hope any future colors have the same old consistency!

i really hate nars glosses but this color is totally gorgeous.but since i don’t wanna pay 24 bucks to a tacky gloss,i might have to search for dupes:)

Absolutely one of my top 5 fave lip glosses (and that’s saying a lot cuz I’m a lip gloss whore! ;))! The color is stunning, no scent, a little goes a long way, and this NARS gloss wears REALLY long on me for some reason (like 4-6 hours!)! Plus, it seems to be more moisturizing for me than most other NARS (or basically any other brand) gloss! Also, I’m uber-pale and the color is equally complimentary on my lighter skin tone. WOOT! 😉

Thanks for the great swatches and review, as always!!! 🙂
