NARS Dark Room, Shutter, Wrong Turn Nail Polishes
Here are the last three shades from the upcoming nail collaboration between 3.1 Phillip Lim and NARS (official info here). If you missed the other posts, check here and here. In general, I find NARS’ lacquer formula to be underrated–it’s really quite good, both in terms of color payoff, consistency, as well as with respect to wear. I usually get seven to ten days of wear with very minor tip wear out of this formula.
NARS Dark Room Nail Polish ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “blue denim.” It’s a muted, navy blue with a cream finish. There’s a slight warmth to it (though it is a cool-toned color) compared to a true blue polish. It had a slightly thinner consistency, but it wasn’t watery or streaky. Application was pretty easy as the color didn’t bubble or pool along the edges, and it was opaque after two coats. I did have noticeable staining after swatching this, so I would recommend a good base coat to prevent staining of the natural nail during wear. Chanel Magic (LE, $27.00) is slightly lighter. NARS Superstar (LE, $20.00) is very similar. Chanel Blue Rebel (LE, $27.00) is cooler-toned. Zoya Natty (P, $9.00) is slightly cooler-toned, lighter. Essie Go Overboard (LE, $8.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Shutter Nail Polish ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “black sea green.” It’s a blackened green–there is just a tint of green, but it is a very dark shade that looks nearly black in some lighting. It was opaque after two coats, and the consistency was similar to Dark Room as it was slightly thin but not problematic for application. I would also recommend using a good base coat to prevent possible staining from wearing this shade. Deborah Lippmann Billionaire (LE, $19.00)is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Wrong Turn Nail Polish ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “graphite.” It’s a dark, slightly metallic gray with cool undertones and a pearly shimmer. It was nearly opaque after one coat, but two coats were still needed for full color coverage. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it flowed well across the nail and was easy to apply. It dried down faster than other shades in the collection, due to the more metallic-like finish. Once dry, it had almost no visible brush strokes. MAC Grey Friday (LE, $16.00) is darker. China Glaze Stone Cold (LE, $7.50) is darker, more matte. Zoya Tao (P, $9.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Blue nail polish is my archilles.. I love darkroom.
It’s gorgeous!
Oh I bet Dark Room and Wrong Turn would look so good together in a nail art.
I could see them working well together!
fall in love with Wrong Turn. I don’t think I can find a dupe for this color. mostly they are silver metalic or black frost finishes 🙁
It’s harder to dupe from what I can tell!
I am totally off darker nail colors right now, and these spell autumn for me! Really pretty I think especially dark room!
They definitely have a fall vibe!
Blue Denim! I love the consistency and wear of NARS Np’s!
Me too!
Wrong Turn is really pretty, but I would definitely wear it for fall!
Great for fall for sure!
I am *so* impressed with the dry finish of Wrong Turn. So metallic, yet so smooth! *Stares in wonder*. I also rather like the asphalty kind of shade. I feel like it would probably look ghastly on me, but, like chartreuse, that doesn’t stop me from kind of loving it at the same time! 😉
Sometimes I wear colors that aren’t my most flattering just because I want to 😉 I can’t help it, haha!
Love Dark Room!
I love how rich it is!
Ohhhh Dark Room is so pretty. I’ve really been into dark blues lately, but I don’t know about the $20 price tag.
Totally understand! The formula is great, but it’s pricey!
I like all of them!
So glad you liked ’em, Rikki!
I like this grouping a lot!
Yay! 🙂
I’ve found most of this Nars nail collection boring, but Wrong Turn looks lovely! I love how little the brush strokes show.
It’s a pretty good polish!
I love them all but Wrong Turn is special!
Seems like that’s the one that caught everyone’s eyes!
Ugh shutter is so gorgeous and unique
It has a lot of richness!
Oh my gosh, I literally can’t contain my excitement just looking at these, they’re perfect! I love them all <3
Mia xx
Will you be getting any of them, Mia?
I like all of them but I love Wrong Turn.
The color is really cool!
I love Shutter. Must have.
Enjoy, Jill! 🙂 Do you have any NARS’ polishes in your stash?
Shutter is a lovely shade.. so intense but not flat black!
I think I have one Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear hard as Nails Nail Paint that looks similar to wrong turn just that it has a glossy finish.. 🙂
Ooh, that is good to know! Thanks for sharing that dupe!
i really like shutter, but i already have two sort of similar shades (color club artsy crafty and sinful colors last chance, but they’re both lighter and more green than black) so i think i’ll save the $20 and maybe get one of the new mac polishes you’ve posted! 😉
Sounds like a good idea! Will have to check out Artsy Craftsy!
