Here are the last three shades from the upcoming nail collaboration between 3.1 Phillip Lim and NARS (official info here). If you missed the other posts, check here and here. In general, I find NARS’ lacquer formula to be underrated–it’s really quite good, both in terms of color payoff, consistency, as well as with respect to wear. I usually get seven to ten days of wear with very minor tip wear out of this formula.

NARS Dark Room Nail Polish ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “blue denim.” It’s a muted, navy blue with a cream finish. There’s a slight warmth to it (though it is a cool-toned color) compared to a true blue polish. It had a slightly thinner consistency, but it wasn’t watery or streaky. Application was pretty easy as the color didn’t bubble or pool along the edges, and it was opaque after two coats. I did have noticeable staining after swatching this, so I would recommend a good base coat to prevent staining of the natural nail during wear. Chanel Magic (LE, $27.00) is slightly lighter. NARS Superstar (LE, $20.00) is very similar. Chanel Blue Rebel (LE, $27.00) is cooler-toned. Zoya Natty (P, $9.00) is slightly cooler-toned, lighter. Essie Go Overboard (LE, $8.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NARS Shutter Nail Polish ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “black sea green.” It’s a blackened green–there is just a tint of green, but it is a very dark shade that looks nearly black in some lighting. It was opaque after two coats, and the consistency was similar to Dark Room as it was slightly thin but not problematic for application. I would also recommend using a good base coat to prevent possible staining from wearing this shade. Deborah Lippmann Billionaire (LE, $19.00)is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

NARS Wrong Turn Nail Polish ($20.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “graphite.” It’s a dark, slightly metallic gray with cool undertones and a pearly shimmer. It was nearly opaque after one coat, but two coats were still needed for full color coverage. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it flowed well across the nail and was easy to apply. It dried down faster than other shades in the collection, due to the more metallic-like finish. Once dry, it had almost no visible brush strokes. MAC Grey Friday (LE, $16.00) is darker. China Glaze Stone Cold (LE, $7.50) is darker, more matte. Zoya Tao (P, $9.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

i really like shutter, but i already have two sort of similar shades (color club artsy crafty and sinful colors last chance, but they’re both lighter and more green than black) so i think i’ll save the $20 and maybe get one of the new mac polishes you’ve posted! 😉
