NARS Bayadere Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches
Bayadere
NARS Bayadere Eyeshadow Quad ($52.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a new, permanent set of warm-toned neutrals that range from glittery copper to dark bronze. The four shades worked well together, but the glittery copper (#1) was chunky and had to be used with a dampened brush in order to function decently. I wish they had gone with a high-shine, more metallic shade, as it would have coordinated even better with the other three shades and been easier to work with.

Bayadere #1
Bayadere #1 is a medium copper with strong, warm undertones and flecks of gold glitter. It had a chunkier texture as the glitter was larger, though still on the flatter side (seems to be code for “less fallout” in my experience), and it was best used with a dampened brush or over a wet/tacky base, which helped it adhere better and more evenly. Used dry over bare skin resulted in a moderate amount of fallout and sheerer coverage. It wore well for five hours dry but closer to seven and a half hours (with some fallout over time) applied wet (just water).

Formula Overview
$19.00/0.04 oz. - $475.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "rich, high-impact color" that is "lightweight" and has "increased blendability." Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks "melted" on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.
Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS' eyeshadows for years and didn't change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.
Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

This is a beautiful palette. Too bad #1 color performed so badly. I am on the fence.
NARS ruined, what could have been, a beautiful little quad by including the glitter shade. Glitters, especially poorly constructed ones, are not really for quads – big palettes OK, but it would have been much better if a shimmer or a metallic finish of the same shade colour were substituted, like you suggested Christine.
This is a really cohesive quad and very appealing otherwise.
Beautiful eye look Christine.
Ugh. This shade combo had such potential to be a great little go-to quad for on the go usage, too bad that the first shade is such a dud! Too chunky of glitter for my taste
I have this and I absolutely love it.
I don’t find that #1 performs as poorly as reviewed. It adds such a nice sparkle(but not over the top glitter) to my look and I did not have any fallout with it. I usually apply it as a wash over my lid with my finger.
I love the look of this quad!! It’s going on my wishlist.
What a pretty little palette. How unfortunate that #1 is such crap.
