NARS Bansar & Mondore Satin Lip Pencils Reviews, Photos, Swatches
NARS Bansar Satin Lip Pencil
NARS Bansar Satin Lip Pencil ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “rose brown.” It’s a warm-toned, plummy brown with a satin-matte finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage (my lip freckle was just slightly visible), and the consistency was creamy, smooth, and velvety so it applied evenly and looked flattering on the lips. The color wore well for five and a half hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. bareMinerals Break Away (LE) is lighter. Givenchy Brun Cachemire (104) (P, $36.00) is brighter, lighter. MAC Bad Girl RiRi (LE, $16.00) is lighter. NARS Het Loo (P, $25.00) is more orange, brown. MAC Spice (LE, $16.00) is pinker. MAC Mocha (P, $16.00) is slightly warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Mondore Satin Lip Pencil ($25.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “cranberry.” It’s a muted, medium-dark red with warm, brown undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had rich, full color coverage in a single stroke, and the color applied beautifully as the consistency was creamy and glided over the lips easily. The color wore well for six and a half hours and left behind a stain. Like Bansar, it was comfortable to wear but was neither drying nor hydrating. MAC Studded Kiss (LE, $16.00) is darker. NARS 413 BLKR (LE, $26.00) is darker. NARS Majella (P, $25.00) is brighter. NARS Golshan (P, $25.00) is lighter, brighter. NARS Amsterdam (P, $26.00) is slightly darker. Wow! Beautiful. I’m not sure that first one isn’t too brown for me (opinion?) but that second one might make it’s way into my basket! Thanks for getting these reviews up!!!!
No problem, Megan! 🙂
These look gorgeous on you Christine! I’m really liking Bansar 🙂
Thank you, Nadia!
Not feeling these two colours!
Maybe next collection 🙂
Both of these run too warm and will make me look like yellow woman. pass.
They were surprisingly warmer – I was expecting Mondore to run cooler-toned (to contrast against Bansar).
Please do not be offended, but I do not even like them on you and I think you look good in most. I’m surprised as well.
Maybe it’s the brown in both!
I think Mondore could be wearable on cool-toned skin with adjustment in other areas, but I’m with you on Bansar. Those warm nudes and pinks wash me out like nothing else.
Mondore (I keep thinking it`s `Mordore`) looks really perfect for fall. I think I`m pretty well covered for that sort of shade but then again, maybe not. I will certainly check it out when these hit Sephora.
It’s an interesting shade – you don’t see colors with that much brown in them typically.
I’ll take both. Lipsticks with brown undertones seem to suite me. Glad this seems to be coming back in style.
Enjoy ’em, Rachael! 🙂
They are both beautiful, and seem to go well with the blush. I’m in trouble haha
Uh oh! 😉
I didn’t really care for the colors at first but Mondore turned out to be a nice color. It’ll look beautiful in the fall with a soft smokey look
It screams autumn to me!
I really want to try the Nars Satin Lip Pencils, but I keep changing my mind on which colours to try – I love their shade range! Well, that and the fact they need sharpening.
I suppose I can count out Bansar, as I already have two of the dupes.
Which shades do you keep revisiting most?
Jardin de Plantes (would you believe I don’t own a single fuschia lip shade?) which is out of my comfort zone. Isola Bella which I don’t have a dupe for and looks easy to wear. And Luxembourg and Golsham as such gorgeous reds, though I probably have dupes for them. Maybe Het Loo too…
I think you’re beginning to see my problem. 🙂
I definitely can see the problem you’re having 😉
Sounds like Isola Bella might be a good pick, since it would be easy to wear and unlike what you already have, though!
I like Mondore. I’ve been looking for a muted brownish red that’s not TOO brown, not too orange, not too berry, and not too bold or vampy. I got Mac Roxo but that was WAY darker on me than it was on you lol. Amsterdam, Golshan, and Moscow also seem like candidates. Get thee to a Nars counter…
Let me know if you any of them work out to be what you’re hunting for, Ginny!
I’ll be getting both of these. I normally don’t do pencils but I enjoy this formula enough to make an exception.
At least it’s really pigmented, so even though they are smaller than a regular lipstick, a little goes a long way.
Done and Done! This is the first new makeup that I’m excited about in months!
Yay!!
Ooh, I love them both!
Woohoo! 🙂
I like them both but I’m not sure I could pull them off with the amount of brown in them. They look stunning on you, especially with a light application of your other makeup!
Thank you, Erin!
Interesting colors, not what I expected. Seem fitting for the fall though!
I was surprised at the brown tones!
Wow…I love all of them 🙂
Will you be indulging in either, Karen?
good pigment and beautiful colors but I can’t wear this tone colors it alway make me look older and too warm 🙁
Aww!
Just a heads up, Break Away from Bare Minerals is not limited edition. I just purchased it last week.
Thanks for the heads up!
Both the shades are uber beautiful on you 🙂
love
Love
love
this formula
Thank you, Rashmi!
I love these brownish burgundies that are nineties style.
Yay for love of brown-toned lip colors!
I really love Mondore, but I hate the pencil format… I’ll have to see it in person I think.
I wish these twisted up!
I’m guessing these are great shades for warmer skin tones as they would be way too brown on me. They look fab on you 🙂
Thanks so much, Claudia!
Not a fan of these shades. They remind me of the 90’s. Something like Brenda in 90210.
Something about browned shades…
Maybe the 90s are making a comeback 😉
Bansar is a beautiful wearable brownish shade.. Mondore is a lovely brown toned red..but Bansar wins it for me!!
Though both looks amazing you.. 🙂
Love Bansar!
While these look quite wearable, I think they run too brown for me. I think I’ll try Mondore at the counter as it seems quite a versatile everyday colour. It’s always interesting to try new lipsticks,Sometimes I get surprised finding a colour I thought would look wrong, look very right.
Mondore is a better pick if you want less brown!
Obviously, as a cooltoned vampire, I would wish for a little more pink/red in both, but I’m glad they turned out well nonetheless! Especially if they are filling a gap in the current range (I haven’t researched it, so can’t really say).
That sounded so lukewarm, LOL. It’s just that both of these would look amazingly terrible on me, I’m trying not to let it bias me!
I kind of wish that Mondore was cooler-toned or there was a third that was cool-toned!
Ok, you killed it with Mondore! GORGEOUS look! 🙂
Aw, thanks Lotus! xo
