NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick Swatches
NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.05 oz.) released earlier this year–I had been waiting for a sale to purchase–and is available in 10 shades. It’s supposed to have “sheer-to-medium coverage” with “8-hour hydration” and a “high-shine finish.” Here are swatches!
Thought I’d go for dolce vita, but this sheer shiny version does not channel DV at all. Funny how different formulas in the ‘same shade’ really aren’t at all.
I have the Nars Afterglow Lip Balm in Dolce Vita and it is nice. The formula looks very similar to these swatches, but I agree with the previous poster that the color is way off. The balm doesn’t last more than an hour or so and requires a lot of building up to see much color. I don’t trust the claims on this “lipstick” formula at all. It just looks like their balm formula repackaged. I do like the packaging though and that it seems to be slimmer and longer.
Devotion looks like a shade that i would wear, will wait for your reviews.
Turned On looks very promising and is a shade that I would actually use often. Which means that it’s more likely than not that I already have something close to it, right?
$32 and it’s less than half the amount of product most full-size lipsticks contain, in a balm-type format that likely needs to be frequently reapplied, and all of the shades are easily duped? Hilaaaaaaaaarious. At least it’s not in their old thin black plastic packaging that cracks after a couple weeks of rattling around in your drawer or bag and then the lid won’t stay on and it smears itself all over your other stuff and then fills up with Purse Schmutz lint ‘n’ crumbs, I guess?
I’ll hang on to the one NARS blush I own and like that doesn’t have glitter in it, but I’m kinda over the whole brand at this point.
It’s one of those circular problems – the balmy, softer, more melting kind of formulas have to be packaged in packaging that really holds close to the bullet, so that’s why we often see slim-style packaging (aka half the size) for balm lipsticks.
The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is YSL’s lipstick range – like the Candy Glazes/Rouge Voluptes are very creamy and are a normal size, but their formulas may just be more stable anyway.
Oh yeah, I’ve had PLENTY of softer balmy lipsticks break off at the base after just a couple uses. But at the Nars price point … dang, y’all, step it up! A) more product for the money, esp for something sheer and short-wearing and B) get on the eco-friendly bandwagon and package these as refills in a tight waxed-cardboard tube that slots into a ritzy slimline metal case in a nice matte rose gold or something. Fancier, better value, less plastic waste, covetable, and a tension-fit or click-tight metal case won’t come apart in your purse. Oh well, guess I’ll stick with my [overpriced but I shell out because they’re legit gorgeous] Carolina Herrera lip sheers!
I bought Dolce Vita, it’s very comfortable, looks brown on me. Doesn’t last very long , BUT it smooths out my lip lines. Nice formula!
Nothing really beats the Audacious line in terms of Nars’s lipsticks. The shades look nice, but not long lasting.
Try the Beyond Jelly lipsticks by Nabla! Similar to these, much cheaper, amazing shades!
Once again, for the price, I’d sooner opt for the Sephora Rouge Lacquer “lipsticks” (they’re more like pigmented glosses but they are very nice). These NARS lipsticks are $38 here in Canada (not as huge a price difference as I thought) but still, those lipsticks from Sephora are about half the price and are really nice products.
I returned mine because of the strong cake/sweet smell.
