Hit List: Most Comfortable Matte Lipstick

What’s the Most Comfortable Matte Lipstick that you’ve tried?

Share your pick!  And don’t forget to share why 🙂 Thanks to Olechka for today’s question!

Burberry Lip Velvets, Bite Beauty Lip Pencils/Lip Crayons are the first two that came to mind! Good color, not clingy or drying, so very easy and comfortable to wear.

Agreed. The Revlon mattes are the best drugstore mattes. I was sad to see most of the colours discontinued last year.

Second best drugstore mattes are the Kate Moss mattes – great colour selection, and very comfortable to wear

I really do love MAC mattes, even the retro mattes (but not everyone does). Their regular mattes are creamy to me and stay velvety all day with balm underneath. Viva Glam I is especially nice. Nars velvet crayons are also nice, they go on so smoothly.

To be honest I don’t really get what classifies something as “matte” beyond not having shimmer. I have plenty of lipsticks that don’t have a shimmer finish but don’t have the word “matte” in them, and some that say “matte” in the name have a creamy, somewhat shiny finish. It seems a bit ambiguous.

Most of the Sinners wear matte on me, while the Saints are more satiny to me. The Velvets are definitely the most matte shades in the entire line, though, and from what I hear they’re worth the price tag.

I may be the only person in the world this happens to since I’ve never seen anyone else mention it, but for some reason my lips have a really bad reaction to the Bite lip pencils – they will crack and flake within a few hours of putting it on. Such a shame because I love the colors and how it looks before my lips freak out …

I have had pretty good luck with the NARS Velvet Matte pencils.

Yes on Flat Out Fabulous! I just got this over the weekend. Goes on opaque with no patchiness, dragging, or tugging! The color is gorgeous, and the formula was impressive.

Chi Chi Viva La Diva Matte Lipstick. It’s neither drying nor hydrating but most importantly, it didn’t make my lips peel. Note, the only colour I tested/own is a red, Exhibitionist.

At the moment I’m actually wearing my favourite matte lipstick: revlon superlustrous in really red, ive been wearing this for five hours and I am eating a sandwich. Score!

I love the Bite Beauty matte crrème lip crayons! I have several of the new ones, Framboise, Sucré, and Pêche! But I want all of them now that I know how wonderful they are! Christine – will you be reviewing them? I know you reviewed the LE ones and I’m kicking myself for not getting some of the original launch!

At the higher end of the price scale, YSL’s mattes are fantastic; they’re part of the pur couture line, but are designated as matte, and I actually find them even more comfy than the regular pur couture lipsticks. At the lower end of the price scale, the NYX soft matte lipsticks (not the lip creams, which are great but, I find, dry up in the tube very quickly) are absolutely amazing. Not all of them are actually matte, unfortunately; I’ve found that a few have more of a satin finish. But the ones that are matte pretty much destroy the competition.

Estee lauders pure color envy lipsticks. They’re long wearing, matte and creamy so it’s a hybrid of both worlds. Excellent formula and color payoff.

Not sure why but I don’t find MAC mattes very comfortable – maybe my lips are too dry.
I do like em cosmetics lipsticks. There are only 1 or 2 colors that suit my skin tone but they feel incredible on my lips.

Revlon’s matte lipstick (which I believed they now call Suede something) is a good formula- doesn’t tug at the lips when applying and lasts a long time. Nars matte lipsticks last a long time, but can tug when applying.

I have very dry lips so matte lipsticks are no comfortable at all for me, but Nars velvet matte lip pencils, Nyx Matte lipsticks and lip creams are not drying so I can wear them. After all this coments I HAVE to try Givenchy Le Rouge.

Burberry Lip Velvet;
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil;
Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro;
Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait;
Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip;
Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon; and for the drugstore…
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet.

Yup….Sarah, Andrea and Natalie above also mentioned NYX. I’ve not tried the lipstick, but the liquid cream is only matte formula that hasn’t made me crazy. I’ve never been good about coloring inside the lines, though, and find the application difficult.

1. MAC mattes & retro mattes! Although I have to say that sometimes the textures vary from colour to colour!
2. Stila Stay all Day Liquid Lipsticks, they’re fab!
3. Pretty Zombie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks, they are super liquid but still really easy to apply and they dry super matte! I really suggest trying them.
4. Essence matte lipcremes are fine too, but definitely not comparable to the Stila ones!

The worst matte lipstick I’ve ever tried was the oxblood red colour from the Bourois Velvet Mattes. Patchy, not opaque, not matte…

It’s gotta be Burberry’s Lip Velvets and NYX Matte lipsticks.
Clinique’s new Soft Mattes and Bourjois’ Rouge Velvets are awesome too. MAC’s Retro Matte might not be the comfiest but it wears the LONGEST!
