Melt Cosmetics Slate & Steel Gel Liners Reviews & Swatches

Slate
Melt Cosmetics Slate Gel Liner ($19.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a deep blue with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture was very smooth and fluid, moderately dense but pigmented as it applied to bare skin with an angled brush or with a flat brush. This particular shade took noticeably longer to dry down and turn matte, so it was best applied in a thinner, more sparing layer and then built up if necessary.
I felt like it was pigmented enough where this still yielded pretty opaque results, but it was harder to use as a cream eyeshadow and easier as strictly an eyeliner–other shades in the range have been more versatile. Once it dried down, it stayed in place for over 10 hours without fading/thinning.

Steel
Melt Cosmetics Steel Gel Liner ($19.00 for 0.088 oz.) is a medium-dark blue with subtle, cool undertones and flecks of lighter blue and minty green sparkle throughout. It had mostly opaque coverage in a single layer that applied evenly and smoothly without dragging, though I felt like the edge tended to look a little ragged if I wasn’t careful.
It was almost like the sparkles made it less smooth in application compared to the matte version of the formula. The eyeliner lasted well for 10 hours without fading and just had a smidgen of fallout/migration from a few sparkles.

I like Slate. I literally just received their deep brown gel liner as a replacement for my HG, the sadly discontinued Clinique gel pot liner. Even after seeing pictures, the whippy texture of the gel was unexpected! I hope this heals the Clinique gel pot-sized hole in my heart.
I hope so, Lauren. I do like the Melt formula a lot. Fingers crossed for you.
Naturally I had to do a quick mini wing to test it out. So far so good!
Lauren I’m with you saddened with D/C of Clinique that was my go to for years. Every time I would stray Clinique called me back home. I can say I do enjoy the Melt Cosmetics formula though it’s standing up to my Inglot and Stila loves!!
That’s encouraging to hear! We who loved the Clinique gel pot have high expectations now, lol.
Slate is so pretty and deep. I really eyeing it.
I LOVE love Melt gel liners. I may have to try and snag one…two?… LOL.. of these if they are on Sephora.
They’re so good! I wish they stocked all of the shades at Sephora.
I believe the eyeshadow palette will be at Sephora, but not the eyeliners. They may end up at Beauty Bay, though.
I really like the Steel shade – it looks so beautiful and has a gorgeous finish too.
I’m not one to buy these kind of liners but wow these are so stunning and I’m only doing my eyes when I go out I think I will give them a shot.
Slate is right up my alley for a winged eye that isn’t my typical jet black. I may have to get this rich matte blue liner!
Steel looks simply gorgeous, but I’m a bit concerned by the jagged line part of the review. I wouldn’t want a messy looking wing.
I love these colors ! Melt’s liners look amazing ! I really want to try Steel , as it looks like a color I would wear often.
Man, I really want Steel, but $28 (after tax and shipping) for a gel liner wasn’t going to happen. I hope it comes to Sephora.
