Maybelline Opal (050) Master Holographic Prismatic Highlighter Review, Photos, Swatches
Opal (050)
Maybelline Opal (050) Master Holographic Prismatic Highlighter ($9.99 for 0.17 oz.) is a pale white base with silver to lavender sparkle. It had a glittery, metallic finish with a noticeable texture from the amount of sparkle–there wasn’t a strong base powder, just lots of glittery bits and pieces. It had some shine but it had more of a sparkle that I could see in person. It pressed and patted against the skin, it was fairly pigmented, but as soon as I started to diffuse and blend out the edges, it sheered out quite a bit. It worked best applied over another product, as it seemed to need a more contrasting base to really shine (pun intended, I suppose). The powder felt soft, loose without being too powdery, and it applied fairly evenly. On me, there was a fair amount of glitter that had fallen off or traveled during the six hours it lasted for.
It’s a fun product to play with if you love glitter and don’t mind the pitfalls of it, and the adherence could be improved by patting it on over damp foundation, using it with a dampened brush, or patting over a cream base.

When you have to do all kinds of things to make a product work like it’s supposed to, it’s a dud. It looks gorgeous on you Christine, and it’s a shame because it is a lovely shade.
I really wish they had went with a finer sparkle!
Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a D+ on a highlighter! Don’t understand how some of these zillion dollar DS brands can be so far behind competitors! The market is so saturated with great highlighters at every price point, you can safely skip anything that doesn’t score less than an A
I feel like this needed to be marketed as a glittery veil of highlighter or something. I can see someone enjoying it, but you know… you’d have to LOVE glitter.
Too bad it’s not better quality. Its nice to see mainstream drugstore brands present more options for those who may not be able to afford higher end products or others who don’t want to spend that much.
I had higher hopes since their gold highlighter was quite nice!
This shade itself *could* have been so dreamy and ethereal, if it had been less chunky and had I stronger base to it! It makes me think of an iridescent snow globe, LOL!
It’s great to see the more affordable drugstore brands being reviewed, but this one is so disappointing.
There’s so much glitter that I was surprised it wasn’t marketed exactly as that!
Wow, that’s bad. One may as well buy loose glitter. This could have been really beautiful if Maybelline had created a good base product.
OMG. I’m sad.
I ordered this immediately upon release, and was PSYCHED as a pale girl for whom the gold highlighter is too dark.
Yeah… Nope. I’ve had to layer it over Fenty’s Metal Moon for facial highlight. For the inner corners of my eyes, I apply MILK Holographic Stick in Supernova with a shadow brush, and follow up by patting this over. It looks great and brings attention to the eyes, but it’s a bummer to have to come up with all these tricks.
Hope I can get my hands on their Rose Gold Chrome highlighter soon… That might be a fair girl’s win.
I was so attracted to tge purple one but will pass. instead found Purple Calyx/WetnWikd and is gorgeous! Available at Rite Aid also Botanic Gaden and Blossom siemetgung? Gorgeous! Was contemplating ordering them but just wanted these and was surprised to find them at Rite Aid. The Mermaid one is out of stock i guess but i heard is not that great? Still tempted to get it.
Oops! Just noticed the typos? ?
the purple but will pass on these, instead
WetnWild.
Yikes…
I saw this one in the store yesterday in Canada, and I remember this review…. It looks sooo glittering in person. lol
Didn’t get it even though I wished it had been closure to the Chrome formula being so light I would have loved it.
