Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) ColorSensational Lip Color

For spring, Maybelline’s added ten shades of “nude” that range from the very, very palest beige to muted mauves to deep plums. I greatly appreciate that Maybelline considered the spectrum of skin tones when they thought about flesh-colored lipsticks, because what’s “nude” for one skin tone isn’t going to be nude for everyone.  This is the next set of three that I’ve finished testing, and my favorite from these three is Maple Kiss, as it applies really nicely and wears well.  The other two are more emollient, so they slip more and do not apply quite as evenly.

Maybelline Maple Kiss (925) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, coppery brown with a satin finish and warm undertones. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightly creamy and glided on evenly and smoothly. It was very forgiving on lips and made them look smoother than they actually were. The color wore well for five hours and was lightly hydrating. Too Faced Sweet Maple (P, $21.00) is pinker, lesls brown. Givenchy Brun Cachemire (104) (P, $36.00) is lighter. MAC Mocha (LE, $16.00) is less warm-toned, matte. Maybelline Mochachino (P, $7.49) is warmer, more shimmery. MAC Sheer Plum (P, $16.00) See comparison swatches.

Truffle Tease (930) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy-beige with subtle warm undertones and an almost gray-cast at times. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied evenly for the most part. The finish was glossier than some of the other shades–more luminous than satin. This shade lasted for three and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Dizzy Spell (104) (P, $30.00) is pinker, lighter. Givenchy Beige Mousseline (101) (P, $36.00) is a bit lighter, more matte. Too Faced Naughty Nude (P, $21.00) is slightly warmer. Urban Decay Naked 2 (P, $22.00) is a touch browner. NARS Biscayne Park (P, $25.00) is slightly warmer. MAC Delectable (LE, $16.00) is warmer, more matte. MAC Wholesome (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Cozy Up (LE, $16.00) is a smidgen warmer. See comparison swatches.

Sin-a-mon (935) ColorSensational Lip Color ($7.49 for 0.15 oz.) is a cool-toned, gray-tinged light-medium beige with a luminous sheen. It was semi-opaque, so it allowed the natural lip color to come through (which makes it look a little rosier when applied than when swatched). It applied evenly for the most part, and the color lasted for three and a half hours. It was somewhat hydrating.  MAC To the Future (P, $18.00) is lighter. MAC Naked Bliss (LE, $16.00) is much lighter. MAC Japanese Maple (LE, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Off topic, but your brows are so polished yet natural looking! What is your brow routine?

I can really appreciate this line of nude lipsticks for two reasons: The line has a wide range of nude colors in an attempt to accommodate many skin tones. Finally! What took so long? Secondly, a drugstore line that is high quality like this is wonderful. The lipsticks you are swatching look very moisturizing like they would be comfortable to wear. Good to have in this cold snap weather we are having. With that being stated, I’m pretty sure I won’t be purchasing since I’ve finally found nudes that are complementary to my tone. But, I think this is groundbreaking for those who are just getting into building their collection and are looking for nudes to complete it. It’s affordable way to experiment.

I like the last two a lot. I don’t think I’ll be purchasing only because when I checked these out they weren’t sealed in any way; it was pretty clear that the one I picked up had been swatched.

Christine, you can literally wear anything, but I must say these are not my fav on you. Many brown lipstick tones still look very 90’s to me. I can see these working as a nice nude lip on darker skin tones though.

If you only knew how helpful these swatches are for us! I would never have considered any of these colours but after seeing the pics, I might try the first one Maple Kiss. I am more of a fucshia and/or purple girl but maybe I should give this a go. Have they been released yet? Wondering if they will come to Canada

I really like Truffle Tease! I’m afraid it would be quite dark on me though, since I have a really light complexion. I also think I’m a bit yellow, if that makes sense. But I guess I could always try it and bring it back if it doesn’t work!

I love Maple Kiss. So pretty. The other two are pretty but Maple Kiss stands out compared to the other two, just a personal preference. Thanks for the reviews.

Bought Truffle Tease and Sin-a-mon and you’re right– Truffle Tease definitely has a grayish cast to it that unfortunately does not work well with my skin tone and that I feel makes me look dead– whoops! Sin-a-mon is better but I am going to check out some of the others from this line!

These are all too brown-toned for me, but I had to comment because Maple Kiss looks absolutely beautiful on you and, WOW, your hair look so shiny and lustrous in this post! I do find it pretty interesting that Maybelline now has a number of brown nudes; it seems to me that there is a much higher proportion of pink nudes in the drugstore beauty market. It makes me think that, like you wrote, they’re considering their definition of ‘flesh tone’; a step in a great direction, in my opinion!

Oh I LOVE these, been loking for a good gray-ish brown for some time, I’m so in love with MAC’s Fresh Brew!… But I don’t support MAC, so I’m happy if I can find a dupe somewhere, I will have to try these out when they arrive in ireland!!

Brenda Avatar

I looked for these at my local Walmart and we didn’t have Sin-a-mon – could it be named something else in Canada?? I didn’t think to check when I was at Shoppers…of course that’s the one I was interested in LOL

I’ve seen other blogs/reviews that state there are only 8 shades in the ranhe, all except Sin-a-mon & Touchable Taupe. A couple of the blogs were Canadian, so they may not be available there… The bloggers all had PR Samples, as well.

I found them at several stores, and there were spaces for all 10, but most were sold out! I managed to pick up Sin-a-mon & Bare All, but most of the mid-range wasn’t available. At least there permanent, though!

Sin-a-mon is a nearly 100% dupe for MAC Empowered, which was my HG MLBB shade. I just swatched them together, and Sin-a-mon is a hair lighter, and has a slight sheen in comparison.

Ive been trying to find a perfect nude l/s forever because every single one always look too orangey on me and I can’t figure out why 🙁 I picked up Blushing Beige cause I thought it would be the right mix of beige and pink and its close but STILL too warm toned and orange looking. I’m gonna try Sin a mon tomorrow.. Any advice?
