I have every eyeshadow palette that Marc Jacobs has ever released. So it goes without saying that I had already ordered this first thing this morning.

Maybe if I can get this on sale… I don’t like half of the palette though. I can’t justify it for full price right now. Some of these shades don’t exactly look brown girl friendly, or friendly to anyone that isn’t pale for that matter

Amy Avatar

Yeah…the entire first row is a waste for me. It’s either going to be chalky looking or I won’t even be able to tell them apart on my skin. I think the same problem would be there for anyone but that absolute fairest.

Nancy T Avatar

That was my exact first impression as well! I am on the darker end of “medium” wearing MAC Studio Fix Liquid in C4.5, so yeah, these look too light and/or too muted for most of us.

I think I’m going to get this,it will be the first Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palette I’ve purchased.I have a lot of the high liners and I bought the kiss pop holiday set from last year and I like all of the lip products I’ve got from the line like the nude lip gel in Moody Margot and Some Girls lipgloss.

Andrew Avatar

They’re actually about half the size of the UD shadows. The .564 oz weight is for the entire palette, so divide that by 20 and you find they’re halfway between the size of a normal MJB pan and one of the pans from MAC’s Eyeshadow x9 palettes they recently released. So a value of about $132.

Dream on! I hope you’re right but look at the price diff. here on that Hourglass palette – $15 more, I think. I’m guessing this MJ palette (if it turns up in Canada) will be about $120 or $125.

These pans look SO tiny, like they are the size of a dime. For $100, I feel like I’m going to hit the pan way too soon on these, especially the brown. And way too many light shades for my skintone. Skip for me

Shari Avatar

This palette looks gorgeous, and super wearable with fun pops of color. I also love how practically half of the shades are matte. I might be splurging on this one..

Katherine T. Avatar

I totally agree! I’m going to run out of the brown WAAAY before I run out of all those light shades, which are going to probably look all the same on me

Yes, Mufe while stiffer in texture works very well for me in all finishes :). I’m all over the map price and formula wise and have favourite palettes from Laura Mercier, Tom Ford, MAC (shadows accumulated over time from the permanent line), Tarte, Lorac, Saucebox, and MakeupGeek. I also have a pile of Colourpop because they are another formula where I can successfully wear all finishes. I even have MUG shadows from the foiled line which are pretty freaking shimmery, but why they look far better on me than UD or MJ…?? dunno. I am a big fan of both lines for other products, but not their shadows.

Bonnie Avatar

Thanks for the reply Wwendy! I also have a huge and ever growing pile of CP shadows! They’re just too fun to collect and play with. I’m going to be heartbroken when they’re all no good anymore (from drying out over time I assume will happen), and I have to repurchase! Which Laura Mercier shadows do you have – the artist palette (I think that’s the name? The one on sephora with all the purples) I’ve wanted to buy that for a while now but I’m afraid the newer re-release won’t be as good as the first edition that everyone raved about. Also curious about the Saucebox palette – is it worth the $? Oh and MUG! Just placed my first order with them yesterday! Super excited 🙂

Wednesday Avatar

Hi Bonnie! Yes, the Artist’s palette. I do not tend to build entire looks with it, but find I frequently grab shadows (it’s my love for the purples). The quality is amazeballs. I can’t remember is I have first or second edition. I think it might be the second actually. I believe I passed and missed out on the first. So the quality is there…still!

I like saucebox for very basic neutrals. I have the Etude palette and get a lot of wear.. the black is my go to for pushbrush liner, the nudes (especially that red nude peeking out at the top of crease work..so nice). The pigmentation and quality are excellent.

MUG has some real winners. Have fun with them 😀

Bonnie Avatar

Thanks Wwendy! I’ll have to look more into Saucebox! The only palette of theirs I know about is the one in collab w/ Batalash. What I know about it is that it has ginormous pans and it’s expensive, lol! (But heard good things about it) And definitely I’ll go ahead and grab the LM artist palette soon, thanks for the recs!! 🙂

Nancy T Avatar

Very pretty, but too many light shades it seems. Many appear like they wouldn’t show up all that nicely on my lids. I will just have to wait to see swatches, because sometimes shades can look quite different in the pan than on skin.

Lisa Avatar

Marc Jacobs why do you do this to me? This time of year is so hard because there’s soooo many sets and LE stuff I want them all! The pans do seem small but it doesn’t matter because I know I’ll never finish an eyeshadow palette in my lifetime.

Kelly Avatar

I really like the ratio of light to dark shadows in this one, and the colours are super pretty. I’m pale so palettes are usually almost all dark shades for me so I think this would let me create a lot more looks. Can’t wait to see how it swatches. I don’t have any Marc Jacob shadows so I might check this out.

Andrew Avatar

Although it’s not my taste since I rarely wear eyeshadow, this is a very pretty assortment of colors! And if they’re all full sized then it’s an impeccable deal.

I just hope they’re not the size of a dime like the MAC 9x shadow palettes. Each typical MJB shadow costs $8.42 for .035 oz (or 1 gram), so if they’re all full-sized it would be a stellar value of $168.40 (compared to the MSRP of $99). However, if they are the .02 size, it would mean that each shadow would be ~57% of the usual pan, meaning each would have a value of about $4.81. Twenty of those would only yield a value of ~$96.

I apologize for nerding out in your comment section. I do this on the regular to determine whether or not a supposed “deal” is actually worth it to me.

Jenny Avatar

WOW! …was originally my first reaction to this. It looks gorgeous but on second glance I probably wouldn’t use half the shades. They just seem rather lackluster and a lot of the shades even look too similar.

Dani Avatar

Oh wow, I can see a pretty slim and compact travel eyeshadow case right there!! Just for that purpose alone I would be interested, let along the MJ name tag…I am looking forward to your review on this Christine!

Alecto Avatar

It seems like an awful lot of pale colors. The only ones I’d call midtone would be the two all the way to the right center and the one in the lower left. I can’t picture making a lot varied-looking combinations with this. Of course, it could be the wash of very strong light paling everything out.

KJH Avatar

Missed the ‘bright’ palette, which seemed a nice alternative to UD Electric, for us older broads. I cannot manage to step away from color; thank god I wear glasses! As a person who is medium-light, neutral to cool, this could be quite perfect for what I’m settling into, light neutrals with a hit of color. This certainly isn’t too bright, and it probably isn’t too light for winter, when the beach color fades. This palette seems ‘narrow,’ as in it will not suit a wide range of skin shades, or a wide range of tastes. Will have to swatch it, unless it’s online only, bec. MJ liners don’t play well at all for me…gone in 2 minutes…thank god I got a sephora sample before springing for a Xmas set.
Maybe I hope it’ll review poorly, as it isn’t exactly a value set. Thanks for the financial breakdown, gents.

I only own one of his palettes, The Lover. But I do own nearly every last highliner and some other things from the line. In fact it’s quickly becoming my favorite line. I didn’t want to spend this much on a palette, or even anything at all at Sephora (I’m still very angry about the whole “epic rewards” debacle) but I talked it over with my husband and I decided to just buy it. I feel like the majority of the colors will work for me and I love the quality. In fact just recently I was using my existing palette from him and all I could think was “it’s so nice to pull something out and know it’ll just work”. And it is. His shadows (in my limited experiance) are all so nice to use with wonderful color payoff. I’m hoping this one is just as nice. If it’s not I’ll just bring it back, but I am hoping it works out.

Mariella Avatar

This isn’t showing up on the Canadian Sephora site yet but I shudder to think what the price will be. Speaking just for myself, I’ve found the MJ shadow palettes to be overpriced compared with similar offerings from MUFE, KvD, UD, etc. and, as much as I love my shimmery shadows, some of these look WAAAY too glittery and like they might be serious fallout sources.

OMG!
I love MJB eyeshadows! I own 5 of their palettes and I love all of them.
If I could have it in Italy I think that I’ll buy it but… it never happen so my wallet thanks!

Lauren Avatar

i ordered this palette. actually i bought 3. if i like it i’m gifting the other two to my sister and mother.

and although these photos show LOTS of light colors, i saw another picture from another site and they weren’t so blown out. they’re not all as light as they look–it’s a nice balance.

When I first saw this I had to clean drool off my tablet. As the days pass I’m still feeling it. Could this be the one? LOL Christine I wish I could remember your exact quote, it was so funny but it’s something like “or could it just be my heck of a way to window shop” 😀
