Me too! I don’t know if we have old stock in Australia but they just don’t want to apply to my skin, even after warming them up they are patchy and difficult to build. Almost like they’re already dry. I’ve even brought them twice hoping I just got a dud the first time.

I don’t have a problem with the MJ skinny liners, which I use for my upper waterline, but his regular ones – I absolutely LOVE them for about 3 months because they are so smoothly wonderful but in a really short time (especially in light of the price), they dry out and become impossible to use. I recap tightly but still…even my cheap GOSH and Sephora liners stay perfectly smooth for years but not the MJ ones, which is so disappointing. No more “saving them for good” – if I buy one, I endeavor to use it every day so I can use it up before it goes dry and hard.

Yep I have Cinderella a grey one and not a fan.. hard to use not creamy enough. I use the sparkly grey high liner all the time. Love a liner in softer shades black is too harsh for me.

Palette is pretty not sure think I have dupes.

Not at all. None of the MJ liners work on me, I just don’t mesh with his formula. Angel says, good thing, too. Devil says, dammit, wanted them in every color. Even ancient crapliners do better than MJ on me.

There is definitely something going on with the skinny liners. I have purchased all of his eyeliners and the only ones that does not perform up to bar are his skinny eyeliners. They do adhere and when it goes on it goes on patchy. Unfortunately, I love the new colors but because of the reasons I explained, I will have to pass on them. I do vouch for all the other MJ products though.

Well, Rachel, the crease in the photo above is really subtle compared with the one Twiggy (and yours truly – oh, I must have looked like quite a site!) did with black cake eyeliner. You can see it if you google her and and take a look through… What’s funny is that this look was considered “natural” back then (I think because it was the polar opposite of the very “adult” looks of “old people” – coloured lipstick, blue eyeshadow, teased “helmet hair” that would stay in place for a week, til its owner would return to the beauty salon to have her hair washed, set, combed out and lacquered enough to last another 7 days!

LOL. In the 60’s my mom had a standing appt each Saturday morning for a ‘shampoo & set’. Yep helmet head. And my older sister was into Yardley cosmetics esp the black liquid eyeliner.

Mariella Avatar

For a time, Yardley had a line called Londonderry Hair (shampoos and conditioners) and Jean Shrimpton (“The Shrimp”) was the face of the line and, possibly also the makeup line they launched aimed at teens (I remember buying “Slickers” – lipgloss sticks – some even had a mirror on the side for applying but I remember using it in assemblies or at sports games, sitting with my friends and checking out the boys we liked using that little mirror! – oh the memories!)

CK Avatar

Yes. It feels more like 90s throwback to the 60s to me. I think it’s because of the color, versus the thick black cat eye, and because of the cool taupe.

The other day I mentioned Pattie Boyd’s “Letter from London” beauty tips waaaay back in the 60’s. Well, this photo could have been used to illustrate that “London Look” from back then – flesh coloured lips, heavy black eyeliner (this was before Twiggy, though, and her painted on lower lashes and really painted black eye crease). And y’know how “they” say that if you wore a trend the first time around (neon fishnet stockings, white vinyl wet look knee high boots), you probably shouldn’t go for it when it makes a return! The palette does look nice, though, but nothing in it that I don’t already have, from what I can see.

Oooh, reminds me of my white vinyl go-go boots! We use to dress up and pretend we were on Hullabaloo. We had a raised fireplace and there were wood boxes on each side. We would get into our vinyl boot, mini skirts, lacquer our hair and my brother would pretend he was playing guitar while my sister and I danced like the go-go dancers on top of the wood boxes. Hadn’t thought about that in years. So much fun. You are right though, if you lived through it once you probably shouldn’t do it again.

I was cast as a teenage groupie of a Beatle-esque rock star in a movie. I had one line, “What do you call your haircut, Felix?” Answer was: “Arthur.” I wore a high waisted black and white houndstooth check mini-dress with black pom-pons and fishnet stockings.

Mariella Avatar

Hullabaloo…and Shindig!!! I remember a huge fight with my father when one of those shows was on at the same time as a hockey game he wanted to watch. We only had 1 television set (I think most families in that time only had 1) and I sulked and had a teenaged tantrum, complete with muttering about how unfair it all was and slamming doors!

Claire Renee Avatar

Oh yeah, God forbid papa couldn’t watch hockey. LOL My late father followed Montreal Canadians so if a game was on French channel that was on.

Love the vibe of this collection and the fact that it appears to be very cool toned. It is a lot of money so would have to be stellar for me to even consider it. Also, don’t love the crusty look of the models inner mouth rim which was always a problem back in the day when we had to white out our lips with foundation/concealer and then apply gloss or a very white based lipstick. You had to carry your foundation or concealer with you to do touch ups during the day. Look never worked for me but at the time I thought I looked hot, LOL!!

Maribeth Avatar

This is a really pretty palette which if it is as cool as it swatches will be a no-no for me.
I do like MJ’s eyeshadow formula, however. I have 3 Eyecon palettes and the quality of the formula stands out for being easy to blend and long lasting.
That said, I do not care for his gel eyeliner pencils – be them the “skinny” version vs the original size. For me, there too much drag on the eye to apply & they dry out quickly. The tip falls out of the pencil all the time. They are just a “no win” product for me.
Marc Jacobs skin care is ok too.

Kirsten Avatar

Oh, I really REALLY like those fineliner colors. How are they used that’s different to the highliners? They’re just thinner eye liners?
