Will you be doing swatches on this? It looks so pretty but in my experience there is a lot of fallout with the Marc Jabobs shimmer shades.

Oh god it seems too soon for holiday releases! I’m not prepared!

I skipped out on MJ’s holiday palette last year, but the shades this year seem more appealing for my preferences, so it works out. I don’t want to pull the trigger just yet because there’s still so many other holiday sets to come out. I expect the decisions to be just as overwhelming as they were last year, lol.

Yikes – $100!!! (read probably $120 or more here in the Great White North). I’ll be interested to see how this rates (if you’re planning to review it, Christine) since his eye-shadows can be seriously hit or miss and at MJ prices, I feel everything should be a “hit”.

I grabbed the palette from last year and never reach for it. I think the polly pocket packaging got me!! Super expensive for us Canadians, I am being really palette picky this year. This is a hard pass for me, you know unless it gets an A+ #hoarder

There’s a lot interesting me on this one … some more sophisticated shades, I have been looking at plums and this has a few, variety of finishes, good for my warmer tones. But it’s LE and pricey, and I have several likely dupes in different palettes or singles already. So there’s some calculus to do, see how it swatches in store, see how it reviews, etc.

I actually saw last year’s Style eye-con no. 20 on MJ’s site like maybe a month ago? Might have been longer than that but I do remember thinking hey! It’s back! not that long ago. Doubt it’ll make a comeback now that this is out, though. I need to actually USE mine regularly, it sits on my counter just waiting for me!

The free spirit palette is still available on Marc Jacobs’ website ;). Too bad it’s only for the US! (my wallet won’t complain though haha)

“Fall 2016” means fall (to me,) not holiday. Last year’s MJ 20 was holiday. At $100, even more CAD, does not seem likely that there would be ANOTHER 20 for holiday. The colors do look fallish, more than wintery or holiday. Just find this an odd offering in August: a 20 is a splurge, and splurges are more holiday than fall. Fall is not a present or indulgence time. New clothes, shoes, supplies for the kids. Not really an optimal time for a $100 eye palette, methinks.

Ps: it’s nice that at least you know the difference between a row and a column. That type of oversight should be caught by the far-too-many levels of supervision and ‘curation.’ And my comment is not as a Grammar nazi. This is semantics. Rows go ACROSS (%+*%#*% it) and columns go UP AND DOWN. (You ~%~*%<*<% fools.). When these terms are misused, the product is not being described or labeled properly. And for a Ben, it ought to be.

Eagle eye! Was the holiday palette out in August last year? IIRC, more like early October. Wtf? Dollar Tree has Thanksgiving out. Before Aug 8. Just let us enjoy (?) this infernal heat, without pushing Xmas on us! And if you don’t jump on the makeup, poof, gone. It’s so nuts.

Mariella Avatar

…and good luck with school seating plans where some classrooms are still arranged by “row” (but actually they are columns!). “Column 1 may now get ready to pack up for the day….” would lead to mayhem!

I skipped last year’s LE palette because there were too many light shades that weren’t going to show up well, and it was missing midtone shades needed for a smooth transition. This palette looks a lot more balanced in terms of light/medium/dark shades, but I feel like I have dupes for all of the colors already. But it’s nice to have these colors all in 1 palette to grab on busy mornings or for travel, can see a lot of versatile combos here, although it’s would be nice to have a couple of blue or green shadows to add interest. $100 is a lot, will await your swatches/review before making a decision.

Now…. I could fall for this, even though I don’t need it. The color selection really attracts me. If it gets a killer review I might indulge and take it as my holiday palette (we won’t have it in Europe in fall… we are always late!)

My BF is not even helping. He just saw the pic on my screen and that was the unrealistic conversation which followed:
– Oh, so pretty! How much does it cost?
– You don’t want to know…
– $100…
– Is it expensive?
– Not if you know the price of their 5 eyeshadow palettes.
– You have to buy it!

Now if even him pushes me, how am I supposed to resist? (Plus I think he should have said “I should gift it to you! :P)

DahmerDoll Avatar

That’s so cute! Cheers to you for your answer when he asked you if it was expensive; the devil on my shoulder would have said “No. What a lovely early Xmas present it would be”!

If you have the time Christine I would love to see a comparison to the 2015 holiday palette even if it’s just a side by side grid of swatches!

Cat Avatar

I didn’t purchase last year’s palette because there were too many shades I would not have used much. This palette, however… I can’t think of any reason why I shouldn’t pick it up (aside from the fact that I own more eyeshadow than I can use in my lifetime)! I don’t own any MJ shadows so that might justify my purchase. =)

NancyM Avatar

Same here, y’all. I had the UD Naked3 for a little while, and I just looked like a rabbit in those shades. This palette looks a little too similar.

Kris Avatar

I just did something I never do, I ordered this before the reveiw. These colors are so me. This will be my first Marc Jacobs palette, I’m so excited! Also, there’s an 8% cash back right now on Sephora purchases through ebayes.

Nika99 Avatar

I have so many eyeshadow palettes!!I don’t need this I got last years but I remember it being released much later at least in September!!!This holiday palettes in August is crazy?.Its too early for holiday stuff. Each year it seriously gets earlier and earlier I’m sure social media has a lot to do with it but soon we’ll have to buy holiday makeup in the spring at this rate.

BonnieBBon Avatar

I opted for just the holiday mjb 20 release last year instead of buying several things and I haven’t regretted it once. I love that palette and have used it consistently throughout the year. In fact, other than a couple mac purchases my palette shopping was wayyyy down this year. The eye con 20 really brought home to me that it’s better to invest in 1 quality thing instead of say…my 3rd or 4th too faced or vice holiday palette. This one appears to be even better shade wise however I’m not brave enough to lay down that much $$ without a Temptalia review 🙂

Tami Avatar

It just gets earlier and earlier every year..I loved my free spirit from last year…Overall $99 is high *but* if you consider what the smaller palettes run for, this is on par & even a good value for the quality of it. It is about like the viseart palettes for me. (Just my take on it – I love viseart) – This one appears to be leaning more warm than last year which makes me smile. I am drawn to the warm shades & own a lot of colorful stuff already, though I still love color. These are the shades I keep going back to. This is such a sophisticated palette that will be the ultimate travel buddy…endless looks…..UGH yeah, gonna get it. It sold out last year by November I’m pretty sure. It came out in Sept..It was one of the first ones to sell out & I can see why. They probably made more this year and released earlier in lieu of this. I hope the quality matches with last year’s b/c I just made a very similar looking palette on my own to this one (makeup geek which are great shadows for the price…so yes, redundancy with some shades) but I know I’ll use it. And is marc jacobs…I’m so weak.

Claire L Avatar

This is so pretty but too expensive for me, I’m going for the Viseart instead! I’ll be interested to see how it reviews and swatches though!

Kristin Avatar

I missed out on last year’s holiday palette because I waited to long. I wanted to get it with Sephora 20% discount or maybe a Black Friday special.
So, I bought this one right away! It looks so pretty, can’t wait until it arrives.

Stephamie Avatar

I bought the free spirit palette last year and just received this one today. Putting them side by side it looks as though at least 2 or 3 colors are the same in both palettes. Do you have any info on that Christine? Thanks!
