Marc Jacobs Beauty Au Revoir (406) Twinkle Pop Eye Stick
Here are the other two shades of Marc Jacobs Beauty Twinkle Pop Eye Stick ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) that I purchased. The formula is supposed to glide on easily with “instant buildable coverage.” It’s a twist-up, creamy eyeshadow pencil that feels cool and water-like when it touches the skin. It sets quite quickly, so it’s easiest to use a single shade as an all-over color or base. If you want to use more than one shade, work one eye at a time and you may find layering the lighter shade back over the darker shade, then blending, is a useful technique. I found this formula to have a very similar look and feel to Chanel’s Stylo Eyeshadow. I didn’t have any creasing with either shade over an eight-hour period, but there was some fall out.
Full disclosure: I tried these on my lower lash line, and I had the most searing pain in my eye; I couldn’t even wait to grab a cotton pad to remove it (I couldn’t keep my eye open long enough to find one), so I just splashed my eyes with water and all of the eyeshadow washed away and my eyes instantly felt better. I had only applied it as an eyeliner to the lower lash line (but not the water line) on one eye, but once one eye started blinking and watering, the other one did (causing the eyeshadow on the lid to move), and then both were excruciatingly painful. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a beauty product give me such a vicious, instant reaction. Wearing them purely as an eyeshadow on the eyelid didn’t result in any painful reactions, and when I removed them with a cleansing oil, nothing was amiss either.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Au Revoir (406) Twinkle Pop Eye Stick ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pewter shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark, golden taupe brown with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single stroke, and it was buildable to mostly opaque coverage with two to three layers. NARS Dione (P, $29.00) is cooler-toned. bareMinerals Santorini (LE) is similar. Chanel Mirage (95) (P, $36.00) is warmer. MAC Crushed Clove (P, $15.00) is darker. bareMinerals Hot Commodity (LE) is similar. Too Faced Jingle All the Way Eyeshadow #4 (LE, $16.00) is similar. Sleek MakeUP Court in Cannes (LE, $9.99) is similar. CoverGirl Melted Caramel Flame (350) (P, $7.99) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Juju (LE, $20.00) is cooler-toned. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shoshanna (414) Twinkle Pop Eye Stick ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “teal mermaid shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark, green-leaning teal with subtle cool undertones and a metallic finish. It had semi-sheer coverage in a single pass, and it was buildable to semi-opaque coverage. This shade was more difficult to apply, and because it wasn’t a neutral color, it was very obvious when it applied unevenly–it looked patchy on. They are beautiful shades but as you are have shown, quite dupable!
I have 2 eyes shadows from Bobbi Brown that are very close matches and I often use them on my lower lash line, applied with a dampened brush. Having allergies, I don’t mess much with that lower lash line or, gah, the water line (it’s called water line for a reason!), but what you went through sounds perfectly awful!
Mixing shades of blue and brown has always appealed to me.
I don’t have any issues using Bobbi Brown’s on the lower lash line myself! I’ve had a couple of eyeliners sting just a wee bit, but NOTHING like this.

I didn’t pick up the teal colour, but Au Revoir, the warm taupe is a great one and done for me. I also really like the lighter colours. I have Frannie (silver) and Honey Bunny (light pinkish gold) and they translate to an almost glossy finish which I totally love. I want to try wearing one of these over a dark smoky colour to see if they will layer well over regular eyeshadow and whether or not I can get a budge-proof glossy dark look from these. Haven’t got around to it yet this week. I have 5 of these and have worn them both on upper and lower lid and haven’t experienced any tearing or burning. So sorry you did 🙁
Happy to hear that you didn’t have any issues wearing it, Wendy! 🙂 It’s totally fine on the actual lid for me, just not as an eyeliner or smudged eyeshadow on the lash line, etc.
It’s really scary that these gave such a horrible reaction to your eye! Even though these colors are pretty, the possibility of a reaction will stop me from purchasing any.

Too bad about the Shoshonna color, it’s pretty. What’s not too pretty is the price! I paid $24 for most of my Laura Mercier Eye Caviar Sticks and thought THAT was exorbitant! Is it just me, or do makeup prices seem to be climbing every day??
I don’t know that I’d say they’re really climbing (though all prices on all things have gone up!), but perhaps there are more higher and higher-end brands?

I love the look of Twinkle and, not surprisingly, have some dupes. Shoshana (strange name for a blue eye product, since in Hebrew “shoshana” is a rose) looks SO messy – it’s all over the applicator. It’s pretty but seeing it beside Nars China Seas makes me realize just how pretty the latter shadow is (in fact, if it’s still available at Sephora, I might grab it next time I’m there)
I’m still trying to figure out really how it got so messy…

Au Revoir is pretty, but I’ll not buy it. I might look at the Chanel one, more expensive, but considering postage and customs it’ll probably turn out costing less. There were som more wallet friendly dupes as well. Maybe the MAC…
Enven on the swatches it was visable that Shoshanna was a difficult one. You managed to tame it for the eye look. Good job!

First thing I thought was of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, when the SS officer was like “Au revoir, Soshanna!!”. I love that it was intentional but they didn’t make it like…a thing, you know?

I think if you had such a reaction to these eyeshadow sticks, then many others would too. I simply would not buy the product because of this.

Christine, I compared your swatches, but the lighting is a bit different. Would you say Au Revoir is similar to the Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in Moon River – or is it warmer? If they’re different, I will be very tempted as I’m a fan of this formula. I went and swatched at the Bleecker Street store, and surprised myself by picking up On the Verge, which is so gorgeous (I thought it would be too cool for my olive skin).
BTW, the sales associate also told me they are completely revamping the lipstick formula to make it a bit creamier and less slippy.

Au Revoir is much warmer and bronzy – Moon River is more of a pewter/taupe! Which lipstick formula? I hope they don’t muck with the Lip Gels, as they’re stellar.
Yep, it is the Lip Gels (although, she said it was for fall, and I haven’t seen any promos about this, so she could be wrong). She said some people were finding the formula too emollient and experiencing bleeding around the lip line. I haven’t tried this formula yet, but if they’ve already got a good thing it’s too bad they’re messing with it.
