Makeup Geek Barcelona Beach Eyeshadow
Makeup Geek Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz. each) is now available in five new shades! It looks like most are out of stock at the moment, but they should be restocked soon. All five shades are new and permanent.
Makeup Geek Barcelona Beach Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “medium sand shade with a matte finish.” It’s a medium brown with a subtle gray-tinge and a satin finish. It had a very slight sheen when I swatched–not totally matte. The color payoff was nice, and the texture was soft, silky, and very blendable. I could see this shade being a real workhorse for some! On me, it wore well for eight hours before fading. LORAC Lt. Brown (P) is more matte. Sleek MakeUP Entwined (P, $9.99) is slightly darker. Tarte View from the Taupe (LE) is lighter. Laura Mercier Café au Lait (P, $23.00) is warmer. Clarins The Essentials #4 (LE) is lighter, warmer. LORAC Taupe (P) is darker, warmer. bareMinerals Get Ahead (LE) is darker. Kat Von D Renholder (P) is lighter. Inglot #337 (P, $6.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Makeup Geek Glass Slipper Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “pale teal with slight shimmer.” It’s a light-medium, bluish-teal with a metallic finish. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was soft, but when I worked with on the lid, I felt like the product didn’t transfer as well from the brush to the lid so the color needed to be built up and packed on to a degree. Once on, the color wore well for eight hours before fading. theBalm #23 (P, $6.50) is darker. NARS China Seas #1 (P, $24.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Mermaid (P, $5.99) is darker. NARS Bavaria (P, $24.00) is slightly darker. MAC Shimmermoss (P, $15.00) is greener. Inglot #413 (P, $6.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Makeup Geek Pop Culture Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “vibrant iridescent lavender purple.” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned purple with a soft, frosted finish. It had decent color payoff, but it was a lot sheerer than most shades by the brand, though the texture was soft and blendable. The color was buildable in two to three layers. When worn, it wore well for eight hours before showing signs of fading. theBalm #33 (P, $6.50) is lighter. Urban Decay Betrayal (LE, $18.00) is warmer. Maybelline Potent Purple (P, $6.99) is warmer. Urban Decay Omen (P, $18.00) is brighter. MAC Parfait Amour (P, $15.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Makeup Geek Rockstar Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “pale silver with purple iridescence.” It’s a cool-toned beige with a subtle pink-to-green duochrome. The duochrome is very subtle; sometimes it just looks more like a silvery beige applied, so it depends a lot on what else it is paired with. The texture was very soft and buttery, while the color payoff was good. This shade lasted for eight hours on me. bareMinerals Iridescent Iris (LE, $14.00) is darker. Make Up For Ever #940 Star Powder (P, $20.00) is more metallic. MAC Vex (P, $15.00) is a touch warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Makeup Geek Shark Bait Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “blue based green with a matte finish.” It’s a medium-dark, blue-leaning teal with a matte finish. The texture was really soft, but it was also noticeably powdery, so it was messier to use. The color payoff was semi-opaque, but it’s a shade that’s best patted on in two layers. I also felt like it performed better with a primer than on bare skin, as the color was never fully opaque on bare skin alone. theBalm #43 (P, $6.50) is similar. theBalm C2 (LE, $16.00) is greener. MAC Dynamic Duo 3 #2 (LE, $15.00) is slightly darker. Inglot #338 (P, $6.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches/ view dupes.

I love Shark Bait 🙂 It’s a perfect teal blue to me. Love your look with the colors!
I love the name!
The look you came up with is lovely. Greek shark bait is my favorite.
Thank you!
I loooooove Shark Bait but I think it looks similar to Illamasqua Burst, which I have.
I can see some similarity!
I’ve been wanting to try Rockstar and Barcelona Beach for some time! Love the new colours 🙂
Both very easy shades to wear!
Man, Barcelona Beach looks like a great transition color.
It can be for sure!
Eye shadows like the Barcelona beach are my weakness! This is such a pretty look on you Christine! Any MAC dupes in the permanent shades for BB? will check out the Inglot color
Nothing came to mind when I was looking for dupes!
These colors and finishes are beautiful! Makeup Geek really is really surprising me.
They do some really nice shades!
Beautiful swatches! How would you say that Barcelona Beach compares to Faint from the UD Naked Basics palette?
Faint is a lot darker! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=168690&dupe=114471
Aww, it’s too bad that real wasn’t better formulated! But can I just say: GREAT name 😀
The names on these shades were fun! 🙂
glass slipper and pop culture are so gorgeous, and I love the names. very cute.
Agreed! The names were good picks!
Do Makeup Geek shadows fit other magnetized palettes? I have a palette from Coastal Scents and I was wondering if these pans would fit.
They probably would! They’re the same size as MAC, UD, etc.
i put ’em in a Z. that way you don’t have to worry about the size of the well. works well.
Is Barcelona Beach strongly comparable at all to MAC Omega, or any of MAC’s cool-toned brown eye shadows?
Omega has a yellower tone to it for me! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=105628&dupe=168690
Is that MJ’s Th(ink) on your lower lashline in the look photos?
I believe it’s Stila Ultra Marine!
Such a pretty look Christine! I’m such a sucker for all things purple/lilac. Pop Culture is sooo pretty! What do you have on for liner on your lower lash line here?
I believe it’s Stila Ultra Marine!
I wholeheartedly believe that you have sold me on the Makeup Geek line. I just snagged a Too Faced a la mode palette and I find myself a teensy bit perturbed that I didn’t just spend it on MG eyeshadows. Oh well, there IS next month’s makeup budget!
LOL! There is always next month’s budget 😉
Wow, that look is simply stunning on you. Great colour choices, beautifully applied and blended. Good work, lady.
Thanks a lot, Fiona!
i LOOOVE makeup geek eyeshadows!! i want all of them but they are all sold out already haha!
Hopefully they restock soon!
I like rockstar!
It works well for brightening!
Barcelona Beach, Pop Culture and Shark Bait are so on my list! They’re so beautiful
Love the name of Shark Bait!
I love the texture of barcelona beach! It looks like a soft satin rather than a true matte.
Yes! Exactly!
Love Barcelona Beach. For me, I think it will be “a real workhorse”. Definitely on my buying list with Makeup Geek blushes in Bliss and Secret Admirer.
So great to hear it will work nicely for you!
LOVE the colour of Pop Culture, and the look you did with it on your lower lash line! 😀 It makes my purple and blue-loving heart happy enough to overcome my disappointment at the score 😉
It has potential, at least!
Hmmmm….not seeing the duo chrome at all in rock star… Must be very subtle!! Would you say it compares at all to UD’s Verve? I’ve been looking for an inexpensive dupe… Thank you, as always, for your great reviews!
Verve is brighter, I would say!
OMG.. teal colored eye shadow is so amazing and its looking so beautiful on the eyes.
It’s always a fun shade to wear!
I love the look you made, very pretty and a bit etheral. Pity about Pop Culture, such a lovely colour, though.
Thank you, Helene!
I like the colour of the first one.
Unfortunately,, my so-so experience with MUG shadows trying it for the first time this week is making me kinda iffy about buying new ones, but I guess I’ll have to experiment with more shades and see if other ones are better!
I love some shades ad find other shades to be good but not great (and there are a couple of misses).
What a pretty beachy eye look there, Christine.
I just love the name Shark Bait and I think this colour is fairly unique. I doubt I would wear it, but I admire it. I do want to pick up Barcelona Beach–looks like a stellar transition colour without being too orange–and Rockstar. I was wondering in my head if rockstar is super similar to MAC vex though.
My MUG eyeshadow collection has expanded again recently. My favourites in the collection seem to be her slightly shimmery light to midtones–some really gorgeous and unusual nuanced colours that help blend out a eye look effortlessly: moondust, prom night, sensuous, twilight
I love all four of those eyeshadows but Moondust and Twilight especially! Prom Night is great for a neutral-ish eye with a little edge.
Great post! Just wondering, how similar is Barcelona Beach to MUG’s Hipster?
Hipster is darker! http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=168690&dupe=149184
Wow i nearly wrote off Pop Culture because of the swatch but it looks so.. dimensional on your lower lash, Cool!
Barcelona Beach would be a great crease transition colour.
Barcelona Beach is great in the crease!
