Make Up For Ever #N40 Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “pastel coral.” It’s more along the lines of a light-medium peach-orange with a glistening sheen. On my lips, it looks softer, less like Creamiscle orange, because of the natural tones of my lip color (and the redder your natural lip color, the more coral this will look). This looks a lot like Le Metier de Beaute Ginger Lily but a bit darker. MAC Woo Me is also similar applied.
It looked a bit pale and pastel when swatched, but it should flatter a wider range of skin tones once it is applied, because it’s not fully opaque and lets the natural lip color shine through, which will, inevitably, alter the way the color looks based on your natural lip color. This formula is supposed to be extremely hydrating (purportedly “for eight hours after application”). The color applies with quite a bit of pigmentation, but there’s that soft, slightly transparent-nature of this type of finish that makes it less heavy. Although, the press release says the formula “provides translucent shine with sheer yet radiant color,” and this applies rather opaque.
I found #N40 to be more moisturizing than Folk, but this shade also had a creamier, more slippery consistency in comparison. It wears three and a half hours on me, which is pretty good for something that has this kind of texture. I’d describe it has lightly moisturizing, but it’s not as hydrating as described–I definitely couldn’t get away with not applying something else over an eight hour period. It was scent- and taste-free.

i own this and it is my absolute favorite lipstick right now! one coat is fairly clear, but what i like about the formula i that it’s buildable. i feel like ann-margret or nancy sinatra when i wear this, kind of like a mod sex kitten. the paleness of the shade requires that you buff all flakes of your lips before applying.

one thing i disagree with you about christine, it does have a very noticeable scent to me. similar to a DS lipstick – i’m thinking maybe revlon?
I love it…it’s a beautiful nude. I haven’t seen a lot of colors like this. It’s sheer but still beautiful
Thanks Christine! How does this compare to MAC Reel Sexy?
Not overly fond of this formula.. or at least what I see in the photographs. ย The shade begs to be more opaque in my opinion.
Hmm kind of reminds me of revlon lip butter in “creamsicle”. very pretty shade!ย
I NEED this ๐
beautiful color!!! WANT!!!!
