Make Up For Ever "Lips to Love" Lip Look

Make Up For Ever “Lips to Love” Lip Look

Last week, Make Up For Ever reached out to me to participate in their Lips to Love contest, which is all about spotlighting their new lipstick, Rouge Artist Intense (you can see reviews for 13, 20, 21, 37, 43, 44, 49).  I had a few ideas floating around but once I found out that you could only use Rouge Artist Intense Lipsticks (what can I say, I had visions of using Strass and liner and… yeah, which is a good thing, because it would have been way. too. much!), I took inspiration from a lip look I did a few weeks ago.

My Lip Look: I used #21 (shimmering bright red) on the very outer edge of the lips, and I applied it using a lip brush to get a crisp edge.  I then applied #17 (shimmering gold) on the center of the lips.  On a metal palette, I mixed both #21 and #17 together and blended the two shades together by patting on the color with a lip brush.  This gave it that seamless gradient of gold to fiery orange to scarlet I was hoping for.

There are seven lovely ladies who have all created their own lip looks, and you can check all eight of us here The winner gets to giveaway 10 traincases filled with the winner’s favorite Make Up For Ever products to their readers.  So the prize is really going to the readers, which is amazing! 🙂 They are also giving out a lipstick to 10 winners everyday here.

You can check out all of the entries and vote for your favorite HERE!  Today is the LAST day to vote — good luck to everyone!!

See a close-up… and see my first [totally different concept] attempt!

My first idea was to do a violet to fuchsia gradient lip with leopard print.   It was a good idea in theory, and it looked awesome in my head, but I wasn’t feeling how it translated–it was messier and looked more like I had some sort of disease… LOL!  I think a really opaque liquid liner would have worked best for the spots, and I would also using makeup remover for where I wanted the spots, so that they would really pop rather than layering gold over pink.  (I actually used a palette knife to gouge the lipstick and dabbed the color on so it would be pretty thick and a little 3D.)

I honestly think your lip make-up is the best (even though everyone’s look has its own charm). You successfully made this lip make-up look efortless when it clearly asked for a lot of skills and patience. I voted for you, and I hope you wins. 🙂

Ani_BEE Avatar

I’m torn between Pursebuzz and yours. haha
Tere both wearable yet bold to me. ^_^

Also have to agree my favorite MUFE product is Aqua Eyes Liners. Second favorite is there Flash Colours but there harder to work into day wear looks. lol

I love it – it’s like Kat Von D’s Adora with the gold volume pumped up!! I have been eyeballing that gold #17 to do that with some of my more bland red lippies and it’s nice to see how good it looks!! I voted for ya 🙂

Lego Avatar

I’m so glad you went with the orange/red one, it looks diving for the Holiday season. In fact, that whole look is damn gorgeous :O Totally voting ^-^

Valerie Brower Avatar

OMG!! The whole look is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!! I told my husband right now I’m definately gonna wear this look on our next night out 🙂

this look you submitted reminds me SO much of a look worn by Gong Li in the movie Curse of The Golden Flower. AMAZING. always wanted to recreate it and now i know how! thanks! voted 4 you by the way, you’re in the lead!

Oooh!! A precious, simple and impressive effect!! Congratulations!!
It’s veryyyy nice!! Thank you for the idea!
And, if it is not great to ask, are your eyelashes of which it marks? It is that I fall in love of since they stay, I am charmed with the effect that they do in your eyes. I love it!!

Arantzazu Avatar

WOW!! Amazing! You look gorgeous, Christine!
I love both lip looks, but the red one is fantastic!!
Of course, I’ve just voted for you =)

Elle Avatar

“it was messier and looked more like I had some sort of disease… LOL”

Ha! I love the purple gradient but I really love your final look. I hope you (er, we) win!!

Lady Di. Avatar

Love both of them! The leopard one is definitely creative, but the red/gold is really beautiful and everyone can wear that one!Great job and good luck, hope you win!

Michelle Avatar

Not a fan of the spots themselves, but the purple lips themselves are amazing! I think this concept with translate well to a lot of colors!

Nini Avatar

Oh my…I do a lot (too much in fact) of looks that look great in my head but not in my face…

Btw I already vote for your lips..just beautiful, Theyre like a sunset lips…I love them.

The lips are undeniably gorgeous and very sexy you did a phenomenal job.I plan on recreating that someday 🙂 Voted for you and good luck with the contest.

Daintynymph Avatar

I think it’s funny that someone else did a pink leopard print lip anyway! I could never pull off gold, but on you it looks amazing. I love how your lips just glow!

Cathy Avatar

Christine,do you realize you are WAY out in front with 51% of the votes?? Way to go…knew “our girl” would be the best before I even went there!!

SiaM Avatar

kiss <3 love the lips red-orange-gold transition, a beautiful, wearable, well blended version of the Cointreau lips =) The eyes are also gorgeous.

Desiree Avatar

They are both awesome! You better watch for Beyonce’s new music video’s cuz I can hella see her “borrowing” these looks, lol! Fierce!

Marcela Avatar

the look is gorgeous! it also helps that you take great, clear photos. i saw the other entries and most of them had poor-quality photos (and no matter how great something looks in person, if the photo doesn’t speak for it, you won’t get the vote!)…

Hana Avatar

I really love the gold and red. You make this stuff look so easy lol! Maybe I can redo it for Christmas because it looks like a perfect holiday look. You’ve got my vote! 🙂

Stef Avatar

Love the look Christine! At first glance I thought it was all one shade, but then the gold highlight pops out. And it has all the impact of a red lip, but in a bit more unexpected shade. Well done!

Marie#2 Avatar

Your skin is looking amazing! Any chance of a look breakdown sometime? Or at least what foundation are you wearing?

And of course, the lip look is great 🙂

Sarah A. Avatar

I agree that the leopard didn’t translate all that well into your initial look, but it’s still an awesome idea! And both of your gradients look wonderful, I’m pretty sure if I tried a gradient, it would just look like I hadn’t fully grasped the concept of applying lipstick evenly! Maybe I’ll stick to adding a sparkly gloss to the center bottom lip as a highlighter, and work my way up to this 😉 Good luck in the contest!

Laurz Avatar

I totally see where you were going with look #2 and I ADORE it. I liked the first look too, but where I saw the close up I was floored. I think you are so talented and I hope you win!!

Silvia Avatar

Girl I love your look … its awesome!! Love the lips !! I hope I can do something similar since I don’t have any Makeup for ever where I live. Any suggestion for the shimmering gold in MAC ??

Hayley Avatar

Oh my goodness, that photo of you is gorgeous! I never thought a lip colour combo like that would be so wearable but you sure made it so! =)

Btw, I know this isn’t really relevant since this post was about your lips, but is your hair naturally like that? Or do you curl it? I really like it!

Sharon M Avatar

I like the first look on you, with your colouring, but have to admit the second is really cool! I’d wear the second, without the leopard spots of course, for a party (maybe add some silver to the middle of the lip for oomph).

Roxanne Avatar

I have to say I like yours best! It’s so Christmassy and sexy and… IT’S SO FLUFFAYY! 😉 But honestly, good job (& all of the others as well!)Are you wearing false lashes btw?

Nancy Avatar

Wow! I thought only I could look on MUFE #21! Just kidding….LOL! You look beautiful and most importantly, sophisticated and elegant! Love this on you!

Michelle Avatar

I’m going to spend my VIB gift card on #21 and #17!!!! you are so great Christine, since i discovered your blog my makeup “junkiness” is much more organized and accurate lol!

Anastasiya Avatar

oh my god I can’t stop staring at this…it looks like there’s a sunset happenin on your lips. All I’m missing is a margarita, but it is Friday….

Hilary♥ Avatar

OMG Christine, you’re such a talent!!! Those red lips are amazing!! The leopard lips are very pretty too, very orginal. Thumbs up!! Best of luck to you – I want you to wiiiiinnnnn!!! Team Christine all the way, yesss! ♥

Claudia Avatar

Well, Christine, if there was only one prize you should deserve to win, it would have to be the best lips online. Your lips are gorgeous, perfect and I guess that everybody in the beauty community can recognize them !

annie Avatar

I love the colors you used and how beautiful they came out, I also just went to the make up forever page and voted for you. I think it great how you were one of the only ones to do a bright color and not a dark color.Beautiful on your skin tone even the leopard is cool to me!!

Amrita Avatar

I LOVE both looks, but the red one moreso. I hope you win! Best of luck!

P.S you should start a series of looks like these (after you graduate, and have less stress, of course!) I’m actually a first year student (undergrad) and I was wondering if you could give any pointers on how to achieve and maintain a 3.5+ GPA?

Sorry for the lengthy comment 🙁

Veronica Avatar

You have such a beautiful shape of lips, Christine. I just voted for you because those red and orange lips, ah, you just gotta love them! And your warn skin tone makes you pull these lips off such an easy thing to do! I love the violet and hot pink leopard lips as well but I think the golden/orangey lips stand out more.

Ashley Avatar

This is just so, so gorgeous! You look completely radiant! I really miss your fun and colorful FOTDs like this, it seems like you do a lot more neutral ones nowadays. I know you’re really busy though with school too 🙁

Eugenia Avatar

OMG Christine…..!!!! You’ve just GOT to win!!! I said it before and I’ll say it again: YOUR LOOK IS STUNNING!!! I swear that I’m trying to look at everyone else’s look in an unbiased way, but they don’t come anywhere near the professionalism and original, yet totally wearable look that you created! Bravo!!!!

Thymine Avatar

Even though I visit your site the most, I made sure to look at every other picture before voting. Your look was HANDS DOWN the best one there. Absolutely amazing combination of red and gold. +1 vote from me!

Which blush is that by the way? Looks lovely on you.
