Aqua Eyes Eye Liner

Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes line is probably one of the top eyeliner formulas on the market to-date.  It’s extremely budge-proof, smudge-proof, and water-resistant.  It actually holds up quite well to all three claims.  Add to that a diverse range of color choices (Sephora sells 25), and you have a winning combination.   They’re smooth, well-pigmented, and deliver long-lasting color.

  • #5L is a khaki-bronze with a hint of green in it. It’s like a deep, slightly green-toned antique gold. I love wearing this with golds, browns, and greens.
  • #17L is a soft, yellowed spring green with soft shimmer sheen. I was hoping for a little more chartreuse in it, but it’s still a nice, subtle liner color.
  • #20L is a forest-green with teal in it. I adore this one — a definite must-have. I pair it with blues, teals, and greens.
  • #12L is a dark blue with a subtle shimmer-sheen. It’s not super unique, but it’s a nice blue shade.
  • #7L is a nice pop of blue-based turquoise. It’s the brightest color that I own.
  • #15L is an violet-blue shade. I liked this one, because I felt like it was fairly unique. I don’t have anything like this in my collection of eye liners.
  • #10L is a bronzy-copper. It’s very “me” in a sense, because I love these kinds of warm-toned bronzes. It’s great with warm-toned looks, particularly neutral looks, for an extra kick.

Ok, so the big question, Christine, is how do you feel these liners compare to UD 24/7? Are there colors that stand out? What about the formula – which do you prefer? Thanks!

By “you” I’m not sure if you mean me or Christine 🙂 But I don’t have any experience with anything MUFE (though I probably should!) I think most of them look similar in the swatches to the UD 24/7’s except for that dark green color which I’m totally loving the look of 🙂

UD24/7 are softer. I also feel 24/7 shades are a bit more brighter than Aqua liners. However for me, Aqua liners last longer (normally nothing lasts on me after curling). UD24/7 being softer, pencil sharpeners tend to eat more too – a good quality sharpener is a must.

They are actually very similar, similar to the point where I can’t really distinguish them too much. However, I know that UB liners are metallic finish and MUFE are satin finish (most of it anyway). Also, this is just my opinion, but I find MUFE last abit longer than UB because I have very oily lids.

UD’s 24/7 liners are smoother, and they feel a little brighter. I find 24/7 liners glide on sooo easy. Aqua Eyes stay on better, particularly if you have watery eyes. For me, they both stay on just about the same length, but Aqua Eyes withstood the water test and UD didn’t.

I have 10L and after using I swore to buy more. Best pencil liner I’ve ever used in my life! Easiest to apply and stays and stays. I think I’m going to go for 5, 20 and 12 next!

I bought one aqua liner a while back and then I returned it. It was hard and the color was coming out patchy. I decided to give it another go a couple of months ago and Bam! it was magic. I think I got a bad pencil. In any case, draw a line on your hand to warm up the pencil if the color isn’t coming off for you. These pencils last all day and I really prefer these over the UD pencils. Plus they coordinate with their shadows perfectly.

I LOVE THESE! I have small sizes of the liners in Bronze 10L,
Purple 11L, Turquoise 7L, Mat Black 0L and Iridescent Navy Blue 3L (they came in a set).

My favorite colors are 7L and 10L and 11L. I wore 10L to the beach and went swimming in a pool later on in the same day and the liner stood on the whole time! I’m planning on buying a lot more of these in the future!

I only own 1 MUFE eyeliner (13L: a hot pink!) & 1 UD (1999). I also have 1 NARS, 7 GOSH, and the majority left (app 30)is MAC. I like them all honestly! To me, they all perform great texture-wise and longevity-wise. I like to wear bright e/s colors so I find that MUFE might be a better brand for these bright e/l than MAC (although in one of MAC’s upcoming LE collection, there are some pretty bright and colorful e/l!). Looking forward to them 😀
I mean hot pink as an e/l; I don’t know many other companies (other than MUFE) who has one!

Natalie Avatar

I have to disagree with this one. I own about 7 Aqua liners, 15 UD 24/7 and about 20 MAC liners and MAC liners do not last long as UD or MUFE, especially Pearlgliders. It is a bit of shame, because I like some of the Pearlglider shades.

Have you tried 18C, Christine? I think it’d be pretty with YSL Peach Passion or just with Tangerine Dream on top. I have been lemming this one since day 1 lol.

I first bought UD 24/7 because of all the review on it. I swatch both the UD 24/7 and the MUFE on my hand but I still ended buying the UD. Worst decision ever! I put it one that night and two hours later it smudged like crazy! The next day I put it on again and it smudged. By the end of the day I had wiped the smudgy part away and had to reapply it.

I exchanged it at Sephora for MUFE and never looked back! I love MUFE so much!

P.S. When I walked out of Sephora after purchasing the UD I tried wiping off the swatches with my hand (They were right next to each other). The UD came off in a few rubs but the MUFE did not come off so easily. I had to go home and use soap for several minutes.

Well, I’m glad you found what works for ya, even if UD didn’t do it! I find UD to be pretty good, and they don’t smudge or fade on me at all… they aren’t as tough at Aqua Eyes, but I’d say they’re about 90% – the texture/color varies between the two, though, which is why I go for both 🙂

Natalie Avatar

Wow, I am surprised to hear that UD can smudge. It never smudge or fade on me either! I actually prefer UD over MUFE now, because I find MUFE a bit ‘grabby’.

I purchased the champagne colored one and I was very displeased. It felt waxy and crumbly and didn’t last even with a nice primer… And it was horrible on the waterline. It might have just been the shade but I’m not trying any others
