Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams: Part II

Ahh! The five Aqua Creams ($22.00) I ordered from Sephora arrived over the weekend, and I’m pleased to say I’ve been enjoying them! I liked the first four that I tried, because the pigmentation is incredible, and the finishes are beautiful.

Lips & Cheeks: #5 Peach, #6 Fresh Pink, #7 Fuchsia, #8 Red, #9 Coral, #10 Orange
Eyes & Cheeks: #1 Anthracite, #2 Steel, #3 Silver, #4 Snow, #11 Gold, #12 Golden Copper, #13 Warm Beige, #14 Satin Brown, #15 Taupe, #16 Pink Beige, #17 Plum, #18 Purple, #20 Intense Blue, #21 Turquoise, #22 Emerald Green

  • #9 Coral is a medium coral-orange with subtle shimmer (very faint).
  • #6 Fresh Pink is a beautiful blue-based pink with golden shimmer. SO pretty. It’s amazing on cheeks and lips! Just make sure to prep lips, because it seemed a little drier than some of the other Aqua Creams, but it holds on for hours.
  • #13 Warm Beige is a lightened champagne taupe with a metallic sheen. This is kind of a neutral base color, but it’s a bit high on the frost/metallic finish and darker than I’d like — not quite as universal as I was hoping.
  • #11 Gold is a metallic gilded gold. Very, very pretty. Not entirely sure how usable it is, but it is stunning.
  • #20 Intense Blue is a medium ocean blue with silver shimmer. It’s like MAC Freshwater eyeshadow, in a cream form.

The reason I like these so much is they’re creamy but not too creamy–they won’t slip around on your eye lids, and they really lock down. These just don’t budge at all, even without setting with eyeshadow. I also like that you can use them on eyes/cheeks or lips/cheeks (depending on the shade), because they’re more multi-tasking. I like them the most on eyes, then cheeks, and finally lips. I wouldn’t wear these alone on lips (they dry down a bit, so they’ll last for over four hours on me, possibly stain, but my lips need more moisture, so I top with a gloss). Like they are on the eyes – they are excellent bases.

  • Product: 29/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

Recommendation: If you love color and rich, creamy textures, you may find the new Aqua Creams right up your alley. These are particularly lovely blushes for those with oily skin, because these dry down quite well.

So, I don’t know if this is the right place to task this, but whatever…:)

I love how you’ve been doing full-face lip swatches for the lip products you review- it really helps to give me an idea of what a color will look like on a face, rather than just on the skin.

Have you ever considered doing the same for eye products/eyeshadows? I often find that a simple arm swatch isn’t enough for me to tell whether or not I’d like a color, whereas seeing it applied by itself is. You could do each one as a separate sheer wash of color on the lid. I think it’d be super helpful.

Anyways, just an idea- it might not be the most efficient way to do swatches.

Thank you so much for all your hard work! All of us really appreciate it. 🙂

This is an post, not sure if you’ll see this. I agree with this comment! Sometimes for the swatches, they are done on the heavy side. On the eyes we don’t necessarily pack on a ton of product. So an eye swatch would definitely help me a lot!

I just got in #2 Steel yesterday and I’m loving it. I am wearing it as an all over lid color today and it’s gorgeous! You can either go sheer or build up the color, these are so versatile. I am going to get the Warm Beige and Taupe ones too 🙂

I love the peach and coral for the lips!! AND the gold and champagne beige…and….
are you wearing the blue and gold on your eyes for the first picture??

Katherine Avatar

I have been eyeing #13 for a while, because I love shimmery champagne colors for all over the lid. Do you think this is similar to Stila’s Kitten Smudge Pot? It does look a little darker, but it’s still gorgeous!

Do these stay on in the water? I remember you did a post once where you went swimming to test out some waterproof makeup. Do you think you could do an updated one for this summer? I need some “going to the beach and waterpark” makeup help!

Christine Avatar

I’ll see if these are waterproof – I think if you just get splashed, you should be all right, given how well these work. I showered and it was fine, LOL. Why yes… I shower to test makeup under more humid conditions!

I think for that post I used Kryolan’s setting spray, which is supposed to make stuff waterproof. I know MAC Paint Pots are waterproof, though, too!

Hey Christine, are you wearing #6 on your cheeks in those pictures? Whatever it is, it looks gorgeous and gives you this really pretty glow. Also, which has a better consistancy on the lips, #6 or #5?

Lyndsay Avatar

I LOVE #9-I just wish it were also safe for eyes, it looks like it would be a nice replacement of the MAC coral crepe…obviously not exact, but up the same sort of lines. I may need to pick this up though for the lip and cheek aspect of it. I’m in love with anything coral right now.

OMG! Makeup forever is KILLING me!!!! Shoot, I want everything! Good thing they’re displaying at IMATS, or I’d be in serious trouble. 🙂

Catherine Avatar

Beautiful! Can you compare these to the Shu Uemura cream eyeshadows? I really love the look of #13, it’s a little frostier and brighter than P Beige which I just bought (and Shu’s are so expensive at $30!).

VANESSA Avatar

oh my you are making me fall in love with everything makeupforever! and that’s not good b/c i’m going to be soo broke! lol

Sonia Kalsi Avatar

christine! i LOVE LOVE LOVE the top right (shimmery golden-peach) and bottom right (bright hot pink) lip colors you are wearing can you please tell me what they are? I hope the golden peachy one isnt the CDP $50 one you adore as i cant afford that lol 🙂 thanks !

Sonia Kalsi Avatar

ahh im such a dork.. they are of course the MUFE aqua creams.. wow the peachy gold one (5) reminds me of that CDP lipgloss you always rave about.. color-wise how close of a match are they? Im not really concerned about texture as i can work with that 😉 thanks girl!

Sonia Kalsi Avatar

Ahh that is awesome, i will definately be checking these out.. $22 is much better for my wallet than 50 bucks, and as beautiful as the CDP one is, i can’t afford to pay that much for a gloss right now.. but when i graduate and get a proper job.. maybe i will 😉

Thank you so much for your help Christine, i have no idea where i would be without you and your wonderful website! <3

jess0501 Avatar

i bought the no 6 and use it as a blush.. really love it. it’s not oily and stay all day long.. i think i will grab no 9 as well ^^

victoria Avatar

i ordered #9 coral and it’s suppose to come tomorrow, so happy to see you posted a swatch here, it’s just as i hoped it would be, i can’t wait. the mufe hd blushes didn’t work for me so i’m hoping these would. i want to order #11 gold, not sure if i’m going to use this but it sure looks beautiful. thanks for the post.

nicci Avatar

I must have totally skipped this over when I was at Sephora tonight 🙁 I was looking through what they had but didn’t see these…I guess I was not looking close enough! Anyway, I want to get #13!

kate Avatar

Hey Christine,
love the post! So # 11 reminds me of Pure Ore (from Metal-X). # 11 looks a little more yellow, but do you think they are dupes? I’m always looking for a pure ore dupe– it’s by far my favorite gold!

Lynniekae Avatar

Hi Christine!

These look great. Do you know how they compare to Shiseido’s pots? I love those, but these look really fun.

Laia Avatar

Today I’ve bought Warm Beige for my best friend. She loves brown/neutral/grey/black and by reading the review I think I made a good choice for her! 🙂

Kimber Avatar

I gotta say – I bought the silver and aqua shades and while the color and pigment is awesome. I was totally disappointed in the sticking power. They creased and slid on my eyes something fierce. Totally bummed me out – but then I have THE oiliest lids and if something is going to slide EVER, it will slide on me.

I’m going to try them with a little primer this weekend and see if I can use them because the color is sooooo incredible.

victoria Avatar

i got #9 coral and it’s perfect. it last over 4 hours on my cheeks. have to work fast on these but i prefer them to mufe hd blushes. i just can’t wait for them to be sold at the stores because i can’t decide what to get next. the downside and i can overlook them, it smells a bit like mascara. and the packaging, it would’ve been nice if it was glass but then again, it’s lighter so easy for travel.

Rachel Avatar

Sephora has a gorgeous look using #11 (gold) in their “Get the Look” section online. That combined with your rave reviews are making me really, really want to buy it!!!

Haylie Avatar

These are gorgeous! Which do you like better for the eyes, color 13 warm beige or color 16 pink beige? I’m just afraid pink beige will be too pink. And how are these compared to paint pots? I don’t like paint pots and I can’t return mine cause I bought it online. Also do they crease?
