Make Up For Ever #24 Aqua Cream

Make Up For Ever #24 Aqua Cream ($23.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “matte vibrant yellow.” It’s an intense, bright sunshine yellow with a yellow-orange undertone. Illamasqua Hype is a darker yellow. MAC Goldenrod is more orange. Inglot #323 seems nearly identical.

The texture of Aqua Creams is creamy, slightly thick, and pretty opaque from the get-go. You don’t need a lot of product to get an even, opaque layer of coverage, but it is possible to sheer out the color to more of a semi-opaque look if so desired. Aqua Creams are, as touted, long-wearing, waterproof, and intensely pigmented. It’s a formula that dries down fairly quickly and then stays and stays and stays. It doesn’t budge, smudge, or fade at all during the day. They can work alone, as eyeshadow bases, or as eyeliners (some shades are designed for lips/cheeks and not eyes, however, so you’d use those as lip/cheek products!).

I love the the intensity of this shade; it’s really vibrant without being neon. It’s warm without venturing into goldenrod/orange-territory, but it’s warm enough that it’s a yellow that can be worn more easily, since it won’t look sallow against the skin.

I love aqua creams, the pigmentation, the easy application and how long they last, but I have to honestly say that I have no idea what to do with this shade. Yellow eyeshadow … lips…??? I just can’t imagine it. I guess I’m not daring enough for this one.

You’d be surprised how pretty yellow shadow could be! Especially one as sunny as this. I have an olive skin tone, and I’ll wear yellow on the lid with a grassy green like MAC Swimming in the crease and some black liquid liner. It’s really fun and summery.

I can’t wait until my Sephora gets their new shipment of these. This is without a doubt the perfect yellow eyeshadow that I’ve been searching for since I was sixteen. Love MUFE Aqua Creams and I’m so excited for this one<3

I must have gotten the only dud because I can’t understand what people like about these. I bought one (golden copper) because I needed a waterproof shadow. It creased without primer (set with shadow on top once, and once without shadow). With primer it flaked, especially if I did more than a tiny, thin layer. I tried it several times, and each time I checked my lids after a few hours and it came off in dry flakes of product or creased. I eventually gave up and threw it away. I really don’t know what I did wrong, but I’m not willing to be burned twice.

I swatched this today in Sephora and um…. I don’t have the guts.  Nope, none.  On the gorgeous dark beauty who was helping me, it was beyond lovely. Really a knock out and eye-catching when swatched on her skin!!!  But me? No matter how flattering she was about my colouring and looks, I’m convinced I’d look like Malaria Central in this. And, even if that were merely paranoia, the truth is that I have no EARTHLY idea how I could use this without looking like an escapee from the circus.

@Kafka Bahaha!   Right?!  I hate when MUAs/SAs try to sell me on colors that would actually suck on me.  And yellow is def one of those colors.  Yikes…
