Make Up For Ever #21 Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

Make Up For Ever #21 Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick

More Red Lipstick with Make Up For Ever

Several readers inquired whether Make Up For Ever #21 Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.12 oz.) was a dupe for Kat Von D’s Adora Lipstick yesterday, but I didn’t have it to compare then–obviously I do now! It was meant to be, I suppose, as it arrived yesterday afternoon. I knew I had to swatch and review it immediately!

It is and isn’t a dupe. It is the closest I’ve seen, even after going through the Scarlet Season posts from last year, and it has some of that shimmer-metallic sheen, but the metallic finish is much stronger in Adora, which gives it a darker look. It is also glossier and less matte than Adora. The color itself is quite close, slightly brighter, but the red itself seems right there with Adora. #21 is a bright cherry red with a very slight blue base, but it doesn’t read cool when I wear it. It applies opaque in just one layer, and it wears for six hours with ease.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Yes! Yes! You’re awesome! Thank you!!

I actually made it to Sephora today, and took my KVD Adora with me, to compare the two, I used my VIB Gift card thing as an excuse to go. Had I not gone, I definitely would have picked up this lipstick anyway, based on your review and swatches.

For me personally, as this is a bit of a truer red, and cooler, it works better with my skintone. My tube of Adora pulls a bit orange on me, I guess from the slight flecks of gold that are in the finish. I find that the MUFE feels much nicer as well, it’s more creamy. The KVD dried down a bit too much.

I’ll definitely hang on to Adora for the summertime though, as that is when I wear a lot of warmer colours. Both of them have their place in my stash now <3

So glad you could post it for everyone! This is my favorite red and I own “tons” of reds from high end brands. For those who are “light” beauties, I’m a MAC NC15, Bobbie Brown Warm Ivory in other words, I’m light skinned blonde with yellow undertones and this red is “gorgeous”…

Try out Lancome’s Rouge Absolut in Rouge Velour as a dupe. It will cost more…$29 but I think it looks awfully similar. I dont have KVD to compare but if you have Lancome’s, could you do a comparison swatch like you did MUFE #21? Thanks! 🙂 Hopes this helps someone!
