Make Up For Ever ME400 Buttercup Artist Shadow
Some of the first eyeshadows I had to try from the Make Up For Ever 30th Anniversary Palette were the brights. I really love their new eyeshadow formula, because everything is so much more pigmented, blendable, long-wearing, and just all-around easy to use. The texture of some of the shades really borders on a cream or gel eyeshadow, as they feel quite creamy but really look and perform much like traditional powder eyeshadow. They feel very different from their previous range, with the exception of the mattes, which are more finely-milled and velvety, though at times they can be a little powdery.
Make Up For Ever ME400 Buttercup Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright, sunshine yellow with a frosted sheen. It had excellent full color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. The color lasted for eight and a half hours before creasing slightly. Chanel Admiration (114) (P, $29.50) is a cream product, more muted. MAC Ever So Yellow (LE, $21.00) is darker. Makeup Geek Lemon Drop (P, $5.99) is similar. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #5 (P, $9.99) is warmer, more golden. Fyrinnae Banana Mochi (P, $6.80) is lighter, less shimmery. NARS Flowers 1 #5 (LE, $24.00) is darker. NARS Corcovado (P, $24.00) is a cream product. MAC Double Feature #1 #1 (LE, $15.00) is a touch lighter. MAC Sunny Outlook (P, $21.00) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Bright Sunshine (P, $15.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Make Up For Ever I340 Lime Green Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright, yellowed chartreuse with a pearly sheen and warm undertones. It was intensely pigmented with a creamy, soft texture that applied evenly and smoothly. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me before creasing slightly. MAC Lisa’s Spikes (LE, $15.00) is more muted. Make Up For Ever I-30 (P, $21.00) is a cream product. Urban Decay Thrash (P) is more matte. NARS Rated R #1 (P, $24.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Make Up For Ever ME304 Emerald Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a cool-toned green-teal with a soft, frosted finish. It had really good color payoff, and the texture was soft and blendable while feeling almost cream-like. It wore well for eight and a half hours before creasing, and it just barely stained the lid (I couldn’t really tell except when I looked for it, and it was gone by morning). MAC Green Room (LE, $15.00) is darker, more muted, less shimmery. Sephora Collection Picnic in the Park (07) (P, $13.00) is greener, brighter. Make Up For Ever #52 (LE, $23.00) is warmer, cream product. NYX Seafoam Green (P, $4.50) is more muted. NARS Misfit #2 (P, $24.00) is darker, more matte. Maybelline Edgy Emerald (P, $6.99) is lighter, cream. MAC Surf USA (LE, $15.00) is darker, less shimmery. Sugarpill Midori (P, $12.00) is greener, warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Make Up For Ever ME230 Peacock Blue Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark blue with a frosted finish. It had great color payoff and had a soft, smooth texture that applied evenly. On me, it wore well for eight and a half hours before fading slightly. This shade is also in the Artist Palette, and I found this one to be slightly creamier in consistency. Stila Sapphire (P) is brighter. Giorgio Armani #18 (P, $32.00) is darker. Urban Decay Madness (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Disney by Sephora Friend Like Me (LE) is more muted. Tom Ford Beauty Emerald Lust #3 (LE) is warmer, brighter. Urban Decay Unhinged (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Haight (P, $18.00) is lighter. MAC Pre-Packaged (LE, $15.00) is darker. Guerlain Les Aquas #3 (P) is similar. Sugarpill Magpie (P, $12.00) is darker, more shimmery. bareMinerals Controversy (LE) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

A bright color foe usually I am so impressed with that Peacock blue there! Gosh stunning!
These four worked well together!
Wow! Love love these bright colors:) So pigmented. I need to learn to apply my brights like you do. It’s so pretty;)
Thank you, Hannah!
These look beautiful, I don’t really like greens but that Lime is fantastic!
It’s so vibrant!
Peacock blue is really nice! I was really impressed with the formulation of all of the shades during your Sneak Peek and I look forward to the rest of the reviews!
I love how it’s blue… not quite teal… and muted. Really pretty.
I might just have to buy some of these separate because the bright colors in this set look so amazing. I loooooooove your eye shadow its so gorgeous.
They’re worth buying separately if you are inclined to purchase singles (some only buy palettes, some only buy singles). When I was at the boutique to grab the 30th Anniversary palette, I swatched a bunch of the line and was generally impressed at least initially (swatches/pigmentation/general texture).
I love these colors together. I might keep an eye open (har dee har) for Emerald, it’s gorgeous.
Haha! ;D
Those first two shades are so bright and pretty!
I love ME400’s sheen!
Wow..the look you did is gorg!
Thanks, Melinda!
These 3 are definitely on my wish list! They’re gorgeous 🙂
They’re lovely!
Ooooohhhh, i love vibrant colors but i’m a coward when it comes to using them :-<
Awwww!! Try a little at a time – outer corner, lash line, etc. 🙂
I could never pull these of but wow!!
They’re beautifully bright!
I want one of everything.
They’re hard to resist!
That eye look is AMAZING, Christine! After this first set of reviews, I’m even more anxious for mine to arrive. I get the feeling you had a fun creative burst with playing with it, and that’s such a major factor to me. I love how the palette inspires experimentation and just enjoying your makeup.
Thank you, Celia! 🙂 Enjoy yours when it arrives! You’ll love it!
The peacock blue is amazing!
Agreed!
Not my cup of tea, but the quality looks spot on. The emerald is stunning.
So far, so good 🙂
Gorgeous! My next Sephora order I’ll be picking up a bunch of these!
(also that Marc Jacobs liner, wowza! I still need to try those out)
Love the two teal eyeliners from MJB quite a bit!
In love with all of those brights. Seriously need that yellow in my life.
ME400 is so bright!
This is kind of a HUGE favour but when you start reviewing the browns can you watch out for a dupe for MACs Creole Beauty? I’ve been searching high and lo for a dupe for that! These MUFE ones look AHMAAAZING.
There seem to be a lot of dupes for Creole Beauty? http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery?sg=173483,172833,171069,170317,139649,124396,118382,114760,114516,111693,109563,108688
What a fun + flattering look! think i ought not read the glossovers, because i’m going to wind up craving this. the whole 30 year magilla. think i like the fall releases best of all. maybe bec. i can’t do standard pinks + corals + I love it, when things deepen up. i do see a couple of the neutrals from your overview post + a few fill-in-the-stashes from the brighter shades making it to a z-palette near me!
So far, so good! The only word of caution I really have thus far is that the mattes, while very soft/blendable, can be a little powdery and don’t adhere as well to bare skin as the more shimmery shades to. Haven’t tried them all yet but have tested a few.
Oh my my my! What beautiful colours! (said little red riding hood. “All the better to bankrupt you with” said the big bad wolf) Gaah! Stomps off into the sunset to find scissors for cutting up credit cards….
Hahaha! That is a good take on The Big Bad Wolf … if he visited Sephora 😉
Stunning, all of them. I need to get some of these in singles. I love how they work together in your beautiful eye look.
Thank you, Rachel! 🙂
These are my kind of colors! Love your look!
Thanks, Phyrra!
The colours are so gorgeous! The pigmentation is so out of this world – my favourite is the Peacock Blue!
It’s SO bright!
Wow you really landed the peacock eye look! Beautiful colors!
Thanks so much, Denise!
Was it super impractical to use the bottom palette with the big lip around it? Wondering if that will make me say no to the palette
I didn’t have any issues with it, though I would have preferred it to be a removable tray like the other two!
must get buttercup! I need a yellow shade like this, imo yellow looks good on the lids with black.eyeliner on Brown eyes.
It’s SO pretty and vibrant!
Wouaaaaaahhhh ! This eye look is AMAZING, Christine !
So gorgeous on you….want them all !!
Could you send me their ingredient list please ?

OK, I pretty much love all of these 😉 Hooray for chartreuse and sunny yellow! You are shades that will probably never really work on my cool, pale skin, but I love you and want to own you all the same! 😀
Emerald is really a gorgeous green, and of course I’m always happy to see another high quality blue eyeshadow 😉
Have you tried yellow or chartreuse paired with something cooler-toned overall? Maybe they would work that way!
I picked up Emerald last week along with 2 other blues, ME-216 and D-206, and these three are also beautiful together. I’m loving how vibrant and blendable the colors are.
Lovely picks, Fran!
I took a good look at Buttercup today, but I have MAC Bright Sunshine so I can save a bit there. I also looked at Lime Green, they both stood out to me. I didn’t buy any as the palette will come and I want to know how much it’ll be, here before I buy any MUFE shadows.
I loved the texture of both, seems excellent, so basically I just agree with you here, 🙂
I love the fun, pretty look you did with these shades.
Yes, I think you are good if you have Bright Sunshine 🙂
These are beautiful colors! They look so rich and vibrant.
Right? SO pigmented & intense!
