Hmm, I thought there would be more to this collection. I really hope the quality is there, since I know so many people have been waiting for this. I’m eyeing the purple eye shadow.

Insta girl I wanted the Taraji glow but it sold out and was only able to get the hightlight. When i opened my box I actually got my Taraji glow but labeled incorrectly of course. For me this was a great thing but I still want my highlight!! Called again last night and was told they still don’t have a resolution.

At least I didn’t blow off the follow up. If Indya hadn’t mentioned that you can’t take online back to the store….I was going to call this p.m. You can understand it though. Except you would think they could go back to a dedicated Mac store, though not to Nordie’s, Macy’s, etc. I agree w/Indya. Just want it. For all the perms and esp LE collections Mac puts out, it’s surprising there aren’t more goofs.

Christine has secretly excited for this collection, because who WOULDN’T want to be compared to Selena!? LOL. It’s funny, because I have never seen you and thought you looked like anyone else. In fact, you have a very specific facial structure, and if anyone, I find people that remind me of you, as opposed to the reverse.

I was never fortunate enough to be in the know on Selena. Boston isn’t exactly the hub of Norteno music. I learned of her achievements, high popularity, and great promise through the story of her senseless murder at the hands of the president of her fan club. Truly deranged and an incredible loss. Glad that MAC is memorializing her. I hope the collection is in her spirit and of good quality. Sans swatches, the lips look lovely.

I’m on the other side here. This promo finds me with very mixed feelings. I would absolutely LOVE to see Selena’s legacy live on, but is it really the case here with a clear opportunity (20 plus years later) to cash in on a horrendous tragedy? Am I missing the point? Collabs with living peeps are easy for me to understand and I find them far less offensive. What about a MAC Viva Glam Selena where part of the proceeds are donated to xyz..pick one (a remake of some of her best hits, a museum. a charity supporting violence against women…etc…) Something that raises awareness of her tragedy and also contributes.

I’m not sure that I understand what you are saying. I don’t think that MAC is trying to make money off her untimely death. Her fans clearly wanted a MAC collection that featured her and her family was involved in the creation of the items. Maybe MAC will add her to the Viva Glam line up at some point or do another collection featuring her.

Did you also feel this way about the MAC Marilyn Monroe collection?

Kjh Avatar

You have a def point. We are quite sensitized to the propensity of Mac to profit from things questionable. You’d think I would have thought that way, considering I just got caught in the Taraji snafu. It really is all about the bottom line. Again, Mac missed an excellent opportunity for charity. Just read a must read for you, referenced through Asian beauty blogs. The ‘instruction’ is universal, though the examples are Asian skintones. Google musicalhouses blogspot + olive skin tones. It gets into depth of shade as well as cool and warm olives. Very edifying. I’d be surprised if you haven’t read it, but if not…..

Wednesday Avatar

YES.. this is a phenomenal post and was one of my first ‘olive’ stumbles. The graphics are perfect for my mindset; exactly the type of information this brain likes to ‘see’. I also loved the photographs of the author and her friends at graduation. This read was one of the biggest Eureka moments and made me feel less of a fruitcake ranting on about how I can never find a foundation match and that all neutral peeps are not arrggh peach. Thanks Fabulous Kjh. You can see the GREEN 😀

Many many moons ago an MUA who did my makeup for a photo shoot, stopped, turned her head sideways at me in the curious manner and said “you have almost asian skintones’. She pointed out MAC Bark (dc), Quarry, Patina from her kit and said ‘these you can’t go wrong’.

Kjh Avatar

I got to faces and fingers through Snow White and the Asian Pear. Cat cannot figure out her undertones, either. I do better with some cooler selections, but I think my birth undertone was cool/pink, and now is more red, which is warmer. I also think my overtones are warmer, esp if I tan, but I tan redder than most. When the issue of oxidation was brought up, she was spot on! Noticed that the other day w/concealers. The Tarte and the tf both looked far too yellow, but the Tarte dried down much more red….and might even be ok in lt med. for real concealing, tend to do peach correctors. Always thought I had a pretty standard skintone, but as I analyze it, YOU MADE ME DO THIS CHRISTINE, but I like exercises in thought, I think I have might have opposing under and overtones, that really do not equal neutral. Most R or P in lt med are ok, but none are IT.

Have not been to SWandtheAP before~ Reading the skin type and history info, the OG (geek variety) in me snort laughed at her relocation from Canada to the planet Arrakis..LOLOLOL.

I’ve lost most of my summer colour at this point, but my arms are still very tanned and look like they belong with someone else’s body (aka Farmer Tan). I am very confident in stating I am a light neutral olive. Winter I am NC20 (not for colour, but to illustrate level) and summer if full on tanned closer to NC25. Like you, I definitely look better with warmish colours when I have some skin colour. I find the constraint of not running off with anything too warm or too cool works perfectly for me. Foundation will remain tricky and tweaking a necessity.

Is the redness, true red skintone or it is a function of aging; small broken capillaries, rosacea, etc.. I think redness in those situations can be a bit of a distractor. Wandering off to check out more SWAP (good acronym for the website). 😀

It’s almost here. Thought of you right away. Will have to YouTube the songs. Also was not listening to popular music in that era, pretty much only classical. So maybe I can’t Blame It on Boston. Like that they are using her signature purple for the packaging, but really hope they do something special with the cardboard outer packaging. Like Rocky Horror or Chris Chang. Hope Mac didn’t miss that opportunity, too. Enjoy.

I’m pretty sure I’m getting Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. I HAVE to have something from this collection that I keep forever. (I grew up in Texas and down here, you either LOVE Selena or you’ve never heard of her) I am torn on this brush, though — everyone knows the LE brushes are more often than not, a tad low on the totem pole of quality. Even worse, it’s the 129 — a famously bad brush. I really hope this collection represents Selena as beautifully as her music and career did. That 129 hangs over the collection like a bad omen. (The only GOOD 129 I’ve ever used was from the 2008 Monogram collection — that gorgeous, golden brush with the soft soft bristles. Mmm Mmm!)

Racquel Avatar

I’ve been waiting on this collection all year. I hope the quality on the eyeshadows are up to par especially on that black and purple eyeshadow. Does anyone know what a glaze lipstick is? I wish they would of added lip liners to the collection

Veronica Avatar

I have mixed feelings here. One one hand, Selena was at the forefront of the 90s Latin music wave. On the other…kind of a way to cash in on the utterly tragic and senseless death of a young woman.

Deborah Avatar

People have been cashing in on tragic losses forever it seems. Elvis, Marilyn, James Dean, The Titanic, The Holocaust, etc. – there must be a long list. People cash in when they write books about tragedies – a LOT of books have been written. It’s definitely not a new trend.

Kylie5 Avatar

I think here in Europe only a few People Know WHO she is. I only Know it because of the circumstances of her Death. I have studied criminology and psychology and I am interested in everything which has to Do with Crime,
So my big interests Are Beauty and Crime. Strange combination.

Kjh Avatar

Not really. Mine, too. (But dogs are ahead of either.) I hope you can stream Investigation Discovery shows, via YouTube or whatever. I watch that channel (and virtually only that) and play with makeup looks most nights I’m home. The rest of tv is on demand. The ‘best’….Most awarded shows seem to be A Crime to Remember for historical American Crime, done almost like a period drama, and Vanity Fair Confidential. VF crime coverage tends to lean either sensational or celebrity(like the Safra case) and often can be international.

Erica Avatar

I mean this collection will sell on the Selena name alone but tbh and no offense but this collection is a bore from the colors to the packaging. I don’t know what I expected but I expected more I guess

kellly Avatar

I’m mad at MAC right now. I looked EVERYWHERE to try and find that Taraji bronzer and finally found out that MY CITY ISN’T EVEN GETTING IT. AT.ALL. It’s already gone online (of course, in the first nanosecond). I can understand why people go on strike against them. What good does it do them as a company to make something that everybody wants and then only produce 3 of them so if you don’t have your finger on “send order” the minute it comes out, you can’t get one?
*snarl*

Lynda Avatar

I’m from San Antonio, and we aren’t far from Corpus Christi and Selena is very loved here. She is idolized in murals on walls here. A lot of people here are very much put off by this collection, they feel it’s just a quick buck to be made into a few peoples’ hands. But there’s also a lot of younger generation anxious to have this collection. And without being said, I’m sure there’s a few E-bay resellers foaming at the mouth. LOL

Caterina Avatar

I’m a hardcore Selena fan and though I’m super disappointed with the packaging, I obviously need to own everything. Going to corpus for the launch event but still hoping to try and snag some pieces online. Im new to Mac and know nothing about shopping with them except that people stay up forever stalking the site for things to go live. Can anyone shop or do you have to reach a. Certain level of their loyalty program? What about store shopping? How early do people line up? Any help would be appreciated!!
