MAC Spirit of Truth Nail Lacquer ($15.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a creamy is a deep navy blue. It has a cream finish, but when it dries down, it looks almost like pleather, because it loses a lot of its glossiness. (If you want it shiny, just add a top coat, like Seche Vite). MAC describes this shade as a “navy blue,” which is a fair assessment. Like Obey Me, this shade was plenty pigmented; it was nearly opaque in one coat, though I did two. The formula was equally as impressive as Obey Me with its creaminess and how evenly and smoothly it applied on the nail.
my thoughts on the formula: Historically, MAC doesn’t have a great reputation for their nail lacquers; in fact, some of the feedback I’ve seen on MAC’s nail lacquers mirror Chanel’s! Often interesting and different colors, but many complain of chipping or poor wear. I haven’t experienced this with MAC’s nail lacquers (or Chanel’s). MAC polishes always wear a full week for me, with no chipping, and minor tip wear. Sometimes the formula itself doesn’t lend itself to the most beautiful application, but their creams are most consistent. Spirit of Truth, however, is an exemplary shade from MAC’s polish range.

final thoughts: This blue will flatter both cool and warm skin tones, because of its deep hue. It is a richly pigmented shade, too, which is always a nice find.

$15 is a lot for a nail polish, but I think I’ll try to get my hands on this one. The bottle is adorable and navy blue is my favorite color. Thanks for the review! 🙂

How close is this to ChG First Mate? I know you compared the latter to Dead Calm as well, so I was wondering how close those two were.

it’s pretty expensive, i’ve never tried MAC nail polish so I don’t know if I will like them but I like this colour. Does anyone know a less expensive dupe?

I got this one because of the packaging. I have a lot of blues, but not one w/o shimmers so this is a good one for me.

I own OPI Dating a Royal. DAR is a little lighter and dustier.
Looks VERY similar to American Apparel’s navy blue shade Passport Blue.
This is too similar to Sephora by OPI Blue Grotto which I already own. I will skip this one.
I’ve never had a problem with MAC nail lacquers either. I’m still on the fence about whether to get this one, because $15 bucks is a little steep.

A REALLY great dupe for this product is Sally Hansen Salon Manicure in Thinking of Blue. I cant say for sure not owning the MAC WW one but they look exactly the same when I compare my nails to yours on the screen!

For a shade like that I’d prepare a metallic finish. This texture’s not for me.

I bought this along with my other items when the collection was first released, and i am VERY excited to try this now. i think this would also look super cute with a matte-ifying top coat.

I haven’t had trouble out of MAC polishes either. Some colors I find that I have to apply more than 2 coats, but the wear is generally like any other polish I use. I believe a great deal of problems arise in the prep and application of base/top coat as well as how the color is applied. MAC always works better for me when I apply multiple THIN coats and wait a full 30 min (+) for them to dry. Makes for a LONG at home mani, but well worth it in the end for me! 🙂
Does anyone else think this is the closest shade to the chicago cubs colors? Lol I only buy opi but I’m determined to get one thing from this collection and I don’t have any blue polish. Thinking this would be fun to wear to games! Let me know 🙂

It is horrible to remove. My nails stay stained. But I do love the color.
I am a huge fan of DC Comics and I collect nail polishes, so I got these as soon as I could when they were released – a real dream come true! And they truly are amazing, especially this one, I’ve never seen anything so pigmented before. Even my fiancé was amazed! Haha 🙂
