MAC does not do animal testing. It is only done when required by law (ex. China) and even then, MAC is not doing the testing – the Chinese government or whomever is in charge of that does the testing.

beck Avatar

cant wait to see your reviews, im feeling some flops in the color story unfortunately 🙁 hopefully not.
i could use a brozer, not really but i heard the pro lonwear bronzers are good.
the lipstick looks very blah to me. the blush perhaps looks like Prom Princess…

Regina Avatar

I thought the same thing about the blush but I’m actually hoping it is because I missed out on the Archie’s Girls collection. Hope I don’t miss this one !

Kesha Avatar

I want the lipsticks (especially Feel My Pulse and Caliente) BUT I’m not a fan of the rat race you have to go through to get anything from their collections that you really want. It’s why for the longest I stayed away…it looked like every release was meant to cause mass hysteria. And if you don’t have a MAC store in your area (just a dept store counter) you might be lucky if they get more than a couple of each item! Yeah, I’m talking about YOU Lavender Whip!!! lol

Karen Avatar

Absolutely agree!! U would think mac would want to increase their profits by having enough product or at least enough so it’s not sold out within minutes of going on sale on line. Some people on eBay make a killing and I would prefer to give the money to Mac 🙂 then an inflated amount to someone on eBay. Silly mac!

Janelle Avatar

supply and demand. simple economic principle…if they made enough for everyone to have one there would not be a demand. Example: Krispy Kreme. They were the thing to have then they went into Supermarkets and expanded franchises and many went bust.
I agree that it sucks that you cannot get what you want, but what drives the demand is the limited availability.

blueraccoon Avatar

I disagree with this. Other brands, such as NARS, do LE products and have enough supply that everyone can get what they want. It is absolutely ridiculous that in order to get MAC products you have to wait up all night and pounce as soon as they go on sale. It’s not even people who want the products for themselves who do this, it’s people who buy and then resell on eBay for inflated prices. If MAC had more supply, the race to get products would be less insane, you’d have less selling on eBay for twice or three times the price of the original product, and everyone would be happier. What ends up happening in these cases is that people just stop trying to buy the product at all because it’s so insane to try and get them. That will eventually lead to fewer sales and less revenue for MAC.

There would absolutely be a demand if they had more supply; look at everyone on this blog who says they’d love to buy X except it’s out of stock/they don’t want to go through the rat race/etc. MAC just handles launches very poorly, IMO, and it’s starting to turn customers away from the brand.

Janelle Avatar

A decreased supply is what generates the demand. I believe that MAC knows this and release things in small quantities. I think that they do these things on purpose as way to market/generate talk about the product. For some people it isn’t about the product itself but being able to say “I got one.” It is about the status.

If people would not buy the things on ebay no one would be “poaching.” I have vowed no matter what to never purchase cosmetics off of ebay unless it is at normal retail price.

I recently saw MAC Hello Kitty at CCO. The product is there, but I believe that they (MAC) limit what they release to drive the market.

How many people will go into MAC for one thing and then when they don’t have it just walk away without buying anything? Many do not so they have our money either way. When something is LE the point of it is to sell-out (think of the new Chrysler 300M that John V designed the interior for they made 2K…car companies have been doing LE for years!!!). I for one will never line up outside of a MAC, but I have friends that do regularly and have made friends with others in line. I think the best thing is to make friends with the MUA’s and they will set the product aside for you; I know they say it is against the rules, but it isn’t what you know, but who you know.

I hope everyone is able to get what they want, but MAC does this on purpose IMO. The idea of getting one and be told it is limited makes some people want it more.

Kesha Avatar

Agreed! Supply and Demand has a part but what MAC is doing is creating a false demand…by extremely limiting the quantity (a right they have of course, but I think it’s a little on the abused side). Doing this is meant to cause people to buy as quickly as possible with little thought out of fear of missing out. Problem is that re-sellers are making more money than MAC on the same products because they can inflate the price 200% or more due to the low quantity sold initially. A lot of brands sell LE products without EVERY LE release being this hectic.

There would clearly continue to be a demand if MAC supplied more than they currently do…as long as they provide quality products that people want that is. I’m not saying they should make enough product to supply each individual on the planet at least one…I just think it would be far less frustrating and beneficial if they provided more than they currently do…or at least stop making EVERY single back-to-back release a low quantity LE release. It’s why I rarely purchase from MAC anymore (well that and the decline in some of their e/s quality). It stops being fun trying to snag an anticipated item and starts feeling like a huge joke on everyone constantly and frantically trying to get most of their new products.

Surabhi Avatar

Supply and Demand are two independent variables. That there is a demand for MAC’s LE products is no doubt evident in the no. of people who are interested in buying these LE products whenever they launch. However, by not correctly estimating demand MAC is clearly losing out on revenue. Demand estimation is a tricky business especially for LE products because one can not rely on historical trends as all variables change with a new launch and the only constant is the brand name. However, I think someone at MAC is being very conservative. Clearly Supply is being underestimated and by not servicing the demand for these products in every launch, they are creating artificial demand for these products and a lot of hype for future launches, which, let’s admit has worked quite well for them! Just by putting out news of a new collection they get enough buzz going, something other companies have to invest lots of marketing monies to match. So I guess it works for them! Also if they serviced the entire demand then LE would cease to be LE. The concept works only when a few people can get their hands on the products so that people can feel happy that they have something unique which most people don’t have.
If you haven’t already made out by this excessively long post, then let me confirm this answer is coming from a seasoned marketing professional who just loves her makeup…lol…thanks for reading!

Lark Avatar

They make enough. Have you ever seen the sheer volume of product listed on eBay the day it hits online? People buy a ton and list it as soon as the order is in. It’s awful of them, but as long as fools will pay eighty bucks for a sixteen dollar lipstick it happens. Call MAC and complain.

Christine Avatar

MAC should probably tamp down their 4-per-shade policy to 2-per-shade with some of the big LE blockbuster launches, and of course, I’m pretty sure you can place a second order to get around it – so that’s also something they need to address.

But I agree that the real way to stop people from doing that is by not supporting them by buying (money YELLS).

VJNS Avatar

I stopped buying their limited edition anything. At times, I might buy one or two items. I’ve moved on to other brands that have products that last a little longer – Smashbox, Urban Decay, Makeup Forever, Benefit, NARS, and so on. There is so much more out there than MAC. If they don’t care about the buyer then I don’t care to be their customer.

everytomorrow Avatar

I really like the colors in that purpley quad, but considering the way the quality of the eyeshadows on MAC’s limited releases has been lately I’m trying not to get too attached. Hopefully it exceeds my expectations and is awesome!

Neha Avatar

The quads look great, so do the packaging. I just wish, instead of two violet colored lipsticks , they could have re promoted MAC Thrills/ Queens Sin lipsticks which suit all skin tones.

Ani_BEE Avatar

I’m skipping because the shades are dupebale/not for me. but the Bare My Soul Eyeshadow Quad from swatches I’ve seen is the best quad MAC’s put out in a LONG time in terms of quality of the eyeshadows. Temperature Rising Eyeshadow Quad is not that bad either.

Lauren Avatar

omg!! this collection looks awesome!! Baking beauties was such a let down…. Ill be getting this and the riri collection and im done for a while! lol

Mariella Avatar

I’ll be eagerly awaiting reviews on these. I have become so leery of MAC’s LE stuff, especially their eye shadow quads, because the quality is often lacking. Also, these look pretty much like shadows in MAC’s regular line or other LE releases (When in Rio loos a lot like Club, Friendly and Romantico also look a lot like some of the regular shadows) and a lot here looks very dupe-able. I am interested in the bronzing oil though – looks like it would be super for my legs!

VickyM Avatar

I´m interested in the pink blush, I hope it´s not too frosty it looks nice. I also like the Caliente lipstick it sounds really unique 😀 .

A. Mar Avatar

I’m excited for this collection so far! I’m surprised how attracted I am to the bronze lipsticks and lipglass. Looking forward to seeing swatches of these! I’ve never purchased a MAC nail polish but those do look utterly lovely here.

Stephanie Avatar

I’m kind of thinking about skipping…but I LOVE dazzle lipsticks and want more but the two colors don’t speak to me 🙁 and I’m disappointed on the packaging, it’s the color of poop! And it’s extra money, so def skipping

Leticia Avatar

The ES quads look lovely – I hope this time they are high quality because lately, practically all ES quads have not been worth the price. I’m ealso xcited about the Powerchrome pencils…cannot wait to see what those will do! (Hopefully, it wont be “hurt my eyelids” :))

Abbey W Avatar

I, too, hate fighting for these collections (and then ending up with some sub-par items); however, I just can’t resist all these bronzy summer offerings! They suck me in every time.

Wwendalynne Avatar

I’m ambivalent about this collection which is too ‘honey bronzed’ and dark for my vision of what works best for me. I can see this collection looking really amazing on others, just not for me.

Odette Rose Avatar

Every year I wait for the huge summer collection. Unfortunately, after the “To the Beach” collection in 2010, each collection has gone downwards. “Surf Baby” and “Hey Sailor” were okay with pretty decent packaging, but this collection just sucks. All of the lipsticks are not flattering finishes on me. It looks like the only things I’ll be picking up are the temperature rising quad, ripe for love blush, and possibly a powerchrome eye pencil depending on how good they are. It’s such a bummer for someone who usually buys most of the summer collection. 🙁 I’ll wait for the swatches to see if I change my mind on anything.

alyson Avatar

to the beach was the last collection mac had out that i really enjoyed.. i am not a fan at all of this packaging.. and they could have at least brought back the temperature rising lip pencil..

pearlie Avatar

I am very excited about this collection, I always look forward to MAC summer collection… its just looks so damn sensual and sexy…I cant wait….MAC summer collection every year breaks my pockets..

Amanda Avatar

At first glance I thought the nail polish were pigments/glitters… I nearly had an heart attack of excitement! Too bad they aren’t! 🙁

Brenda Avatar

I love these colours for summer!

This looks like a collection where I normally would buy most of it – but I’ll likely buy nothing due to ridiculousness that purchasing MAC LE’s has become. The earlier conversation with several readers was very interesting and I have to agree with what Kesha says.

One reader commented in that convo that these collections at least get people in and they spend money anyways, even if the le’s are gone (paraphrasing) – I have to say that for the last 2 years at least I walk out of MAC with nothing when they don’t have what I want.

yuki Avatar

WHERE THE HELL IS MY TEMPERATURE RISING LIP pencil. and the packaging is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwww! sorry but can you go back to you not so crappy collections like TO THE BEACH AS it was AMAZING

Lutigs Avatar

With regards to animal testing, although it is now banned in Europe, does that mean that the cosmetic companies (like Mac) will still test in China? Their website doesn’t give any information about animal testing and I am unsure if I want to buy from them if they still test in China

Clio Avatar

I really wish your site had an “archives” section. If I stop reading at, say, page 80 and come back to continue the next day, that’s way too much clicking to get to where I left off.

Becca Avatar

THIS COMES OUT ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!
sorry haha that made me really excited!!! I haven’t gotten excited for a collection in a really long time, but I love the packaging and gold/bronze shades- especially liners and powders- are my weakness. So excited! <3

Rachel Marie Avatar

I believe it’s because it’s “limited edition” packaging… they always raise it for special designs, even though this one is just brown… bleh

Sami-Lee Avatar

LOVE this collection, just missing the bronze metallic lipgloss from a few years ago, they could have incorporated something like that lipgloss.

tasleema Avatar

Sadly another summer collection from mac that feels half baked. I miss the buzz I got from Style Warriors (summer 2009), Neo Scifi/Future Earth/Solar Fields (summer 2008), Moonbathe/Sunstrip (summer 2007), and Bait/Lure/Hooked (summer 2006). Nothing of the summer collections has got me excited since.

Michelle Avatar

Again, like last summer, I am not really “feeling” this collection this year. I may be interested in a lipstick and eyeshadow quad from this collection but everything else I’ll probably pass on. Its just “meh”. Spring and Summer are NOT my seasons, so its justly so. I guess that leaves more stuff for all you. 🙂

Sandra JT Avatar

I just got an email invite today for the unveiling on May 14th, which I’ll be going to with a friend. But to be honest, nothing really looks terribly interesting. I just bought a Dior limited edition blush/bronzer compact that is far more interesting, not to mention gorgeous on the skin, than any of this lineup. Wasn’t impressed with the last two waves of MAC’s limited edition products either. I didn’t buy anything from either.

Caren Avatar

I don’t have a MAC store near me so I REALLY hope I get something this time around. Anyone know what time these usually pop up on the site?

Mzandea Avatar

I’m kinda glad the majority of this collection is shimmery so I can sit this one out 😉 I have oily skin me n shimmer just don’t get along

Ria Avatar

MAC Temperature Rising now available online! If you click on “New Collections” it might not yet show up, BUT if you SEARCH any of the item from the collection it will show up! I already purchased some of the products. =)

Rachel Marie Avatar

I’m really annoyed that almost EVERYTHING sold out in an hour.. not just the lipsticks. And I’ll be out of the country when it launches in stores, foo. All I wanted was ripe for love blush!

Kesha Avatar

This is exactly why I pre-ordered at my local MAC counter (Dillard’s is the only MAC counter in my city) for the 2 lippies and the 1 blush I wanted…I wish I had known this was possible before! I wish the June RiRi collection wasn’t online only (I’m shocked by how much I loved RiRi Woo and how much I want 2 lippies from the June release. So much for not wanting anything released under the RiRi collections lol). I honestly despise the MAC online sales system for LE products…that’s the bad part of getting back in to MAC products. I almost wish I had continued to stay away from the releases and not pay too much attention to them, Can’t be disappointed about something you didn’t know about or bother following.

Melissa Avatar

I haven’t bought a MAC product in a while due to price, but I would like to have “Feel My Pulse” as part of my lipstick collection.
