Some of those lipglass tint shades seem nice, but I can’t stand the pen style applicator. First there’s no product, so you twist the thing carefully a few times, nothing comes out. Twist a few more times, still no product. Keep twisting and bam half the product oozes out. Every time. Doesn’t matter what brand and if it’s a new or old product. So annoying.

I love the idea of the pen-style applicators, since they’re so much more sanitary. I store them tip-down, allowing gravity to pull the product toward the applicator, and “click” slowly. There is “less” product, but I find there’s more “usable” product, since there is so much filler in the more traditional packaging that you can’t actually get to unless you cut open the packaging.

I’m afraid I just have to completely disagree – I totally respect that you prefer them and enjoy them (that’s why they exist – there are people who like them!) – I just haven’t found any of that to be true in my experience.

I’m not particularly concerned about the click-mechanism – I think once you use a few, you understand how to use them to minimize waste, though in general they’re just not my cup of tea as far as packaging goes.

These pens have always worked for me; then again, I know the technique. It’s patience! If you click-click-click really fast, yes…it all comes gooping out and you waste it. If you click 3 times, put the lid back on and wait a few minutes you can click again 3 times and the product will start flowing. I have done this with the previous pens and have had no problems or waste! Try it! After the initial clicks you only have to re-click once when you use it. I got K-wow and Bubblegum and I’m excited that this new formula has the “custom” tint that warms to your body. I don’t care for the Sheen Supreme lipsticks (they apply on me really uneven) but the glosses could be a cool edition to my growing collection!

I loooove that berry color in the promo, but $20 for 0.08 oz? Yeah, hell no. I have a love/hate relationship with clicker pens, since Clean & Clear used it for an acne treatment gel with a slant tip on the pen (SO ANNOYING. Took much longer to get the gel out because the slant tip was so long!) but I’ve only once used a gloss with the brush head—it was decent! With slant tips – no. Brushes – I don’t mind.

hi christine! i know these literally *just* released online, but i was wondering if you will be reviewing the new sheen supreme lipsticks? the pens look like a waste of money haha but the lipsticks i found were always pretty decent 🙂 thanks!!

Hi Danielle,

I very nearly review every single new collection MAC releases with few exceptions — brush sets, kits that have maybe one shade that’s new and the rest are repromotes (because it’s hard to justify me spending $40-80 for one new shade, just to swatch), so as this is a normal MAC release, I will be reviewing it as I review all other MAC collections! 🙂

I swatched a couple of the pen glosses at Nordstrom yesterday and while I ended up not buying them (because I went on a bender at Chanel instead), I was pleasantly surprised that they were totally not sticky. So there’s one positive. 🙂

I have to agree with Christina on this, I purchased the entire set from Nordstrom, they arrived today and they are going back tomorrow. The pens are just as she described, and even being very careful clicking once the product is showing you have released a massive amount and just WAY too much it must be wiped off and lost, this is not my first time using pens so I was slow and careful but it didn’t matter. The application is too tacky and thin, if you blot it afterwords it actually looks better but then thats not what your looking for is it. I am so very disappointed in the pen tints. One did look OK and that was “Heart and Seoul”, I can deal with 1 of these but for the trouble and the very tiny amount of actual product for the price I just cant justify this as an investment for me with fall colors coming.
