My gal at the Mac counter said that Heroine was the only one in the lineup that is LE FWIW /shrug

–But haven’t we been able to order it online previously?

I’ve never tried Mac lip liner before because I’ve heard they’re drying. But I’m interested in trying Talking Points. I love Rebel lipstick, but it always ends up looking darker on the more pigmented areas of my lips. I think lip liner might help even it out some.

Nikki Avatar

I’m lucky enough to be resistant to drying lip products, so I actually prefer the standard; I have found it to be the only one that is not prone to breakage.

cara Avatar

Christine will you be reviewing and swatching these? Trying to decide if I need ruby woo lip liner to go with my lipstick or if it’s gonna look the same as every other red liner I already have.

Katherine T. Avatar

These colors look pretty! Hope they perform well. My lips bottom lips don’t have a naturally precise line, so I usually have to use a lip pencil or my lipstick slides , love that it’s easy to match with the lip color

Jillian Avatar

This looks really cool – except aren’t almost all (if not all) the lipsticks already permanent? Maybe just some new lipglasses and the pencils…. the pencils could be interesting!

Joanna Avatar

Thinking from a marketing perspective, I think they must be “releasing” the lipsticks in order to highlight the fact that they go with new lip pencils. It’s their way of linking them.

I agree it seems a little silly, though. Because, yes, they aren’t releasing Ruby Woo lipstick. That thing is released.

Jillian Avatar

For sure – it’s definitely a bit of a marketing ploy, a way to also remind people “hey, look at these lipsticks we have!” For those who aren’t hard core MAC followers, it could be sort of a “shiny object moment” – something along the lines of “wow, look at Ruby Woo! I have to get this, I’ve never noticed it before!”

Also from a sales perspective, “Hey, you love this lipliner, get the lipstick that goes with it!” Tricksy, tricksy MAC 🙂

Joanna Avatar

Definitely. Even though I think I will test MAC ladies and gents to see how well they know their products by asking what liner goes with some of these lipsticks and see whether they say “Yes, Ruby Woo lipstick goes with Ruby Woo liner” (boring) when back in the day, it’d be “well, you could try it with Cherry or Redd. Or what the heck, try Currant.” And things were a bit more creative.

I love Ravishing, but it bleeds on me also. What I’ve found is that ‘Lasting Sensation’, a really nice coral-esque MAC liner works beautifully with it. Plus, I’m very partial to coral pink/red lipsticks, and I find that Lasting Sensation works beautifully with all my coral lipsticks. I like liners that I can use with multiple lipsticks. I bought Fruit Cocktail, and it’s pretty, but it wasn’t a necessity by any means.

I saw these yesterday online and almost had a freak out thinking these were going to be the new permanent lineup (and not just added to it) for at least 15 seconds I was mentally gearing up to buy every Magenta lip pencil in North America for backups LOL! Then I calmed down and realized they were just being added to the lineup. Then I took a nap.

Kelsey Avatar

I don’t know how I feel about all these permanent collections MAC’s been launching. On the one hand, it’s nice that there’s no hurry to run out and BUY ALL THE THINGS, but on the other, it’s kind of underwhelming for those of us who have been around a while and own/owned all of these shades at least once.

I’m glad they seem to be expanding their liner range, but considering the standard formula is just “Meh” for me, once again, I’m less than amped.

$19 is a bit much for a midrange lip pencil, but I am very excited about these liner colors! 😀 I wonder if the model in the promo is wearing Herone pencil with Ruby Woo. I think it’s a really attractive combo. It makes me want to do a purple/red ombre lip this weekend. I’m also really interested in Cyber World and maybe Candy Yum Yum and Chic trick. I wonder how the pinks compare to Magenta, which I think is the best color in the market in that family. I’m a little suprised they aren’t going for more brown tones given the 90s lip trend right now, but I’m not complaining!

I am wearing Nightengale with Please Me today. I also purchased Candy Yum Yum gloss and pencil. They both reminded me of MAC Pink Poodle but brighter. I will pair Talking Points with MACs All Fired Up , Dame Glamorus; Follow Your Heart with some warmer reds or pinks and Cyber World with maybe Sin, Diva or Miss Dish (old discontinued MAC favorite).

I am a MAC NC50

Lisa Avatar

uhhhh…if the whole point is that the pencils coordinate perfectly with the lipsticks, I’m not sure why they didn’t just name all of the lip pencils after the lipsticks they match. So now, if I want to know that Fruit Cocktail is the lip pencil that goes with Ravishing, I have to take along this press release?

Ess Avatar

Totally agreed.

I literally spend three minutes trying to figure out if I’d missed something because most if not all the lipsticks being “released” were already in the permanent range haha

Sarah Avatar

I saw this display when I went to buy some items from the Toledo collection yesterday. I was not really “wow’d” by them… the SA told me it was a Limited Edition collection (which is the only reason I swatched) but now I’m seeing that they are permanent.

Maybe I’m lucky because I prefer matte lipsticks and find that they perform fine on my lips without a liner. 🙂
