MAC Once Upon a Time Eyeshadow
MAC Once Upon a Time Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “metallic vanilla” with a Veluxe Pearl finish. It’s a soft beige with a moderately frosted finish. bareMinerals Libation is darker. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning #5 is similar but more frosted. MAC Jaunty is more golden.
When this showed up in a holiday palette, I found it very sheer. That was not the case here–this eyeshadow is so, so much better as a single than it ever was in the palette. The color payoff is dead-on with true-to-pan, opaque color. It has a soft texture that goes on as smoothly as silk and blends out easily. The versatility/use of this shade is going to depend on your skin tone; on me, it’s very close to my natural lid color, so I don’t know how often I’d use it myself, but I thought the color payoff and texture were really stellar here. Â I wore it on the inner lid and on the brow bone as a highlighter, and it was slightly faded along the brow bone after eight hours but mostly intact on the lid (no primer).

It’s been a long time since a neutral has grabbed my attention, but this is lovely.
Would it be too frosty to be used as a cheek highlighter?
I think it might be a lil’ metallic!
Thanks for the reply!
I might still get it though, but only use it as eye shadow.
Ok now I’m really glade I got the Wet ‘n’ Wild Sparkle ‘Til Morning from my Secret Santa.
So glad it was better this time around! I went ahead and ordered it last night just in case it would go out of stock. I really wanted to wait for the review but i couldn’t resist!
could you please say how it compares to SWEET SATISFACTION pro-longwear eye shadow? thank you 🙂
Less warm-toned!
Love the look!
Question: What brush did you use when you applied your crease color @Christine??
MUFE #17S, I believe!
I bought all the eyeshadows (minus Carbon), one lipstick and the beauty powder from this collection just because of the embossing. I wasn’t expecting quality… and now I just want to use it all!
How would this compare to All That Glitters?
Lighter, less golden!
Such a pretty, goes-with-anything shade! I will definitely have to swatch this when I’m at the counter getting the new Shell Powder! (I think that’s what it’s called :P)
This shade doesn’t look that special to me. I love the snake print though.
I really like the look you’ve created.
Is it really similar to Grain?
Grain is warmer, less shimmery/metallic.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Jumbo, neutral, snake motif, eep!
Beautiful look, but too bad you didn’t actually provide information about how to recreate it. What are the colors you used where? How? The pictures are not particularly helpful, which is unusual since you usually provide more photos than we even need! Would love it if you could repost as a real tutorial.
Hi Are,
They’re listed right on the graphic!
Lovely! I know I already have too many shades like this one, but I love the Year of the Snake graphic pressed into the pan. I can totally justify it as a must-have beige, right? You can never have too much beige. 😛
Well, it’s not a bad way to go to get the imprint 🙂
Could you tell me how this would compare to retrospeck or maybe mary lou manizer? Thank you:)
Lighter than Retrospeck, less warm/yellow compared to Mary Lou-manizer!
Hi Christine!!
Beautiful look! I was wondering, could I reproduce something very similar with existing permanent shadows from MAC ? I find it a bit expensive to buy all 3 colours (excluding carbon since it’s already in the permanent shadows). I’d like it if I could replace them with something I could put in my pro palette..
Marie
Hi Marie!
I listed all dupes I could think of in the post! 🙂
How would you say it compares to bareminerals Queen Phyllis and Vanilla Sugar? I LOVE MAC eyeshadows, but those two from bareminerals have been my beige go-tos when I want something with more punch than MAC Shroom. Thanks!!!
I’m not familiar with those shades!
Is this eyeshadow similar to mac Summer Haze from the naturally collection? Please answer
Summer Haze is warmer, darker.
