MAC Tartan Tale: Chapter 2 Overall Review & Roundup
MAC Tartan Tale: Chapter 2 Overall Review & Roundup
Of all of MAC’s holiday offerings, I do like their miniaturized sets the best, because I find them to be on par with full-size products.
The pigment sets are definitely the most value-oriented set, and I think the holiday sets are an opportunity to try out a variety of pigment shades without laying down $19.50 for a full-size pigment. Pigments can be really hard to use up in their entirety, so the smaller vials are perfect–and still more than enough for most!  I would just caution you that each set does include either a few permanent or repromoted shades.
I’m not as gung-ho with the lipglass sets, but I do like that they included a lot of new shades in each of them, rather than the same repromotes each holiday season.  The sets are a little more economical than buying full-size lipglasses (on a per ounce basis), but I like that you get to try five shades for the price of two. Lipglasses have a lot of variability; some are more pigmented, some are creamy, some are frosty.
The only item I did not like much was the nail lacquer set, because the shades themselves were a little finicky. I found two of the shades had a tendency to be streaky, and four of the five needed a full three coats for opaque color coverage. Though the shade selection did not affect the overall score of the set, I think it’s worth noting that none of the shades are groundbreaking–and MAC has done some interesting shades in the past.

Recommendations by Skin Tone
Please note that this section is merely suggesting shades that would complement a particular skin tone better than other shades, but these lists are meant to be rather exhaustive of the entire collection; it’s not reflective of must-haves for your skin tone. When it comes to cooler/warmer skin tones, these are products that lean noticeably cool/warm and therefore complement the corresponding skin tone better (but it does not mean you can’t wear a warmer product if you’re cooler!).
Light, Medium, Dark Skin Tones: I think all of the sets would work equally well across the range of skin tones.

I want it all ^^
I will be picking up the Sassy Pink Lassie glass set and MAYBE one of the pigment sets i haven’t decided im kinda thinking i should just wait to spend my $ on the Marcel Wanders collection.
I think these will make a really nice Christmas gift. I can’t wait to give one to my niece…
I’m sure that I’m going to buy one set of pigments.
Picked up the three pigment sets today!
I’m thinking of getting one of the lipgloss sets… but I seems like in every set there is an extremely light colour and since I’m a medium skin tone I don’t think I will use it and then it is a waste of money so I’m not sure… Anyone any ideas how I can get my use out of a very light lipgloss?
Put it over your favorite darker lipstick for a lighter look!
That’s a great idea! Thanx! I’m thinking of getting the coral one
I want the pigments sets warm and smoky 🙂
Thank you so much for your reviews, I always check them before I get something! They are really helpfull 🙂
:*
I picked up my pre-order of Cool and Warm sets of pigments and also my coral lipglasses~! I love them all! I also had a gift card so I got Peaches blush and Pink Swoon blush! I had money leftover on my gift card so I went the the Estee Lauder Counter and got pen pals fragrances and splurged on the new Glamour is Golden Blockbuster 2010 Gift set! It’s their biggest collection ever! Love, Love – next Saturday is my birthday so I bought all this for myself!! Yay!
I received all 3 pigment sets and the Sassy Pink Lassies Lipglass set today 🙂
I got the Sassy Pink and Sassy Coral. I like the colors, but some of the milkier colors in both sets have a nasty plastic scent.
ordered sassy pink and sassy coral lips but when Christine swatched a few on her lips..the real pale ones…I know I will not be pleased with them most likely.
Got the Sassy Pink and Neutral lipglass sets today. Was sorely tempted by the nail polish set, but in person it just didn’t wow me (and a good thing too, as I JUST saw your review). I considered the pigment sets, but I just don’t like using loose powder colour and am a severe klutz anyways (as my make-up routine involves dropping a MINIMUM of three items), so it didn’t make sense for me to get one.
I am, however, adoring the lipglasses. (I also ended up getting the Dazzle the Lads lip bag and Style Clan nail lacquer. I’d totally been waffling on Style Clan since I loved your swatches but it never thrilled me at the counter… but finally I figured I ought to just get it and be done with it. So glad I did; it looks amazing on my nails!)
