MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection by Richard Phillips

M·A·C celebrates the idea of the Artist in every shade and stripe…ma keup as art form. We’ve selected three individuals who exemplify this idea. Bold, heroic, big; giggly, playful, clever; dramatic, original, abstrac t: Fall ’09 as seen by Richard Phillips, Maira Kalman, and Marilyn Minter. Be inspired!

MAC Cosmetics Make-Up Art Cosmetics Fall ’09 As Seen By Richard Phillips (Painter)

Richard Phillips surprised even himself with this project. Using the expert skills of a photo-retoucher, he subjected his own painting to a M·A·C makeover with the new eye shadows, blushes and lipsticks. Andy Warhol did a cameo on The Love Boat in 1985…and in the same spirit, Richard Phillips’ 1998 painting, Spectrum, made its debut on an episode of the scandalous Gossip Girl – a sign of the times! Recycled and re-imagined ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s advertisments and images, and every colourful issue ever considered when pondering the question of “identity” is what Richard Phillips is all about. His bold and beautiful portraits are highly technical, a refinement of precise, academic painting, so relevant to everything M·A·C artistry is all about. A collection of Eye Shadow quads, Lipsticks, Lipglass, and The Perfect Cheek Blush just leap off the canvas!

Out of all 3 artist’s, this is by far my favourite collection. Good old photorealist artist…I love that he actually named a quad after his style of painting.

Photo Realism quad looks really cool, but I rarely wear eyeshadow so I’ll have to think about how badly I want it!

The High Strung lipstick seems familiar (I thought I remembered that name from before) but maybe I’m just losing track after all these collections!

Last weekend I got to see the demos of all the collection products at one of the MAC counter I go to!!!
Iwas in heaven. I played, swatched, placed my order on hold (the MA told me that some of the items are very LE: i.e. 4-5 of the technakohls, for example…).
I’m going all out ($400):
– both blushes
– Photorealism e/s quad (I don’t have many greens; don’t usually like them but THESE!!!)
– On Display l/g
– Hold The Pose & Full Body l/s
– the clear gel
– all technakohls except Blackgraph (which I have already)
– the 2 purple and pink pigments
– the fuschia glitter
I think that’s it!

This collection is just gorgeous…I hope everything looks just as good in person! Although it would save me lots of money if it isn’t…

Personal Taste is a gorgeous shade in person. At my Nordstrom MAC counter, they are actually taking pre-orders so when the collection is released this Thursday, I can just go and pick them up. I was able to swatch and view the entire collection including the nail polish collection coming up on the 27th of August.

I pre-ordered the following:
Personal Taste Lipglass (so pretty!)
In the Gallery Quad (the quad actually does say In the Gallery and not Private Viewing)
Violet Trance, Purple Shower and Maira’s Mood eye shadows
Cool Reserve Nail Lacquer (which reminds me a bit of Call Your Mother by OPI for Sephora except this is a lighter version- pls let me know if I’m wrong)

Still thinking about (they are so pretty in person):
Heritage Rouge, Push the Edge & Cocomotion Pigments

I was a bit disappointed seeing this in person today. I expected to walk away with pretty much one of everything, but I didn’t do nearly as much damage as expected.

The skinetone e.s. quad was an absolute must – the colours are so gorgeous and will be perfect for the fall. I was very disappointed with the colour pay-off of the other two quads, though. The purple one was particularly disappointing – the two lightest shades hardly show up when swatched, even on my fair skin!

Even after trying on the lipsticks, I found that they leaned a little too much towards the brown for me which I just can’t quite carry off without looking sickly. I totally had my eye on “The Perfect Cheek” too, but for some reason it just didn’t do it for me in person.

Ah well, the one quad was stellar enough to make up for the rest of the collection, and this just means the ol’ wallet will get a little rest before the other collections come out!
