I’m finally doing the thing; getting Ruby Woo! Just that one lipstick and the Skinfinish highlighter. The blush duo is somewhat tempting, too.

Double Gleam with this design on it looks SO beautiful, SO festive. But as far as I can remember, Double Gleam isn’t a great colour on me. But this is so pretty that I might give it a 2nd try!

Oh and my favourite shade of gloss, magically delighful!! I can’t wait for Christine to add it to the database (I love love it but still want to find a matter version)

Except, hating to be a literalist here, it is the Year of the Rat, not dragon. Becca and Hourglass have it right, from a symbolic POV. MAC does not. Admittedly, MAC will sell more product with that glorious dragon than a rodent. Being a Rat, I’m looking forward to at least a few Rat themed Asian/Lunar NY offerings. I’d be curious to know what true Asian celebrants of this holiday think.

I feel like this is more a Qing dynasty theme than trying to match the lunar animals. Besides, dragon has always been important to us through our culture and it has a place in spring festival too. We have dragon dance and lion dance in our celebration, so I regard this as a praise to the spring festival as well.

Def Qing designs on the covers..totally gorg. I still think they are steering away from my Rat, because of the negative connotations, at least in Western culture.

I haven’t made an impulse purchase in awhile, but leave it to MAC to pull me back in. They were my first “splurge” purchase and I guess, a decade later, that hasn’t changed. Thanks for the head’s up Christine, I knew I had to snag Double Gleam the second I saw it; plus the Electric Wonder face palette was only $25 so I finally gave in on purchasing it as well. I’m so glad I read your blog so obsessively lol!

I was just starting to praise MAC for slowing down on collection releases… but I think their regular Lunar New Year collection is an acceptable tradition. 🙂
I really do like that they kept many items from the permanent line, just in special edition packaging. Omega, Soft Brown and Cranberries are eyeshadows I do like (in single-pan form), and I would want some of those lipstick shades… but the aesthetics of the packaging is just too `colorful` and `floral` for me.

“Acceptable”. LOL. Let us East and SE Asians* have this, will you? Lunar New Year collections are probably one collection of the year where Asians/Asian cultures aren’t shown in a fetishized way.
(Yes, it is still a “money grab” or however people want to call it whenever something clearly has Asians as the target market. Yes, this coming year will be the Year of the Rat, not dragon. Still… MAC’s Lunar New Year collections are generally well-done.)

*It is not just Chinese people who celebrate Lunar New Year. I can’t speak for other parts of Asia since I’m only familiar with these 2 regions.

This collection looks really good – they eyeshadow palette seems promising, with its mix of shades. The highlighters and blush duo look lovely too. And I like a couple of the lippies as well. Maybe MAC is maturing….

The dragon on the Double Gleam is glorious! The packaging and color story for this collection are both very pretty. If the quality is there, than kudos to MAC.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but unlike other brands’ CNY offerings (Benefit, Becca, etc) that use imagery of the specific year’s animal zodiac, MAC usually comes out with more Asian “themed” CNY products — the red Fortune packaging last year and then a prior Peach/Blossom collection spring to mind. So that they turned to using a Qing ceramic design and a dragon doesn’t surprise me too much.

That Double Gleam highlighter is calling my name… even though I’m drowning in highlighters already!

This is the first MAC collection that has really peaked my interest in years. I like the design, have always wanted double gleam, and have 4 or 5 of the singles of the eyeshadows already (but they are getting old) but I know I like them.
I will not do the FOMO though so if this is going to be a limited quantity limited edition I will be ok with missing these. Realistically there is no “need”.

Uh ok, MAC –it’s the Year of the Rat, not the Dragon, so not sure what’s up with the Dragon highlighter, but it’s so gorgeous that I still want it!

do we know if it is coming to other retailers? The powder, in my opinion, is the only thing worth getting and it is of course OOS (why would a retailer make more of something they know will be popular- that’s crazytalk). i was prepared to stalk the site in Jan. but here it is early.
