MAC Great Beyond Mineralize Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Great Beyond Mineralize Eyeshadow
MAC Great Beyond Mineralize Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a cool-toned mix of plum, purple, and lavender. The plum is on the warmer side, but the other shades are neutral to definitely cool-toned. I thought these shades felt a lot less powdery than the other eyeshadows in the collection, but they had similar issues when worn–six hours or less of decent wear, not fully pigmented even when applied with a dampened brush. I feel like this collection isn’t a step forward in the Mineralize formula but a real regression.
Great Beyond #1 is described as a “dusky plum.” It’s a muted, plummy-brown with a frosted finish. It was semi-sheer when applied dry, semi-opaque when applied with a dampened brush. It was slightly powdery but was smoother than other shades in this collection. See comparison swatches.
Great Beyond #2 is described as a “soft mauve violet.” It’s a light-medium, neutral-to-warm-toned lavender purple with a frosted sheen. It was sheer when applied dry, and then the color payoff was semi-sheer when applied with a dampened brush. It wasn’t dry, but it was somewhat powdery and didn’t bind well together. I found I needed to really wet the brush to get it to apply with any visible color to the lid. I noticed this one was faster to fade as well. See comparison swatches.
Great Beyond #3 is described as a “icy white lilac.” It’s a cool-toned, pinky-lavender with a frosted finish. It had a softer, denser consistency that was a little powdery but not dry. Applied dry, it was sheer, and then applied with a dampened brush, it was more pigmented and smoother–more semi-opaque. See comparison swatches.
Great Beyond #4 is described as a “deep blue violet.” It’s a medium-dark, muted cool-toned dusty purple with a pearly sheen and subtle shimmer. It was very sheer when applied dry, and it did amp up when applied with a dampened brush, but it wasn’t as smooth. It took some layering to get decent, even color with this shade. It also faded faster than the other shades. See comparison swatches.

Ouch, so another failure huh 🙁
I wish I could say I was surprised 🙁
It’s such a shame that the eyeshadows are bad quality. The colours are so pretty! I wonder if they’re even bothering to fix the formula.
If they keep selling well, they won’t!
I really wanted to like these Mineralize quads, I loved the concept of the 4 colors in such a tiny and portable container! Alas, MAC has failed us 🙁 I’m smitten with my Sleek Makeup Garden of Eden palette that I got in the mail last week, so at least that covers the greens, purples, and browns that I was looking at from these quads!
Yay! Glad that’s working well for you!
Too bad these didn’t perform well! I really love the colors!
MAC does know how to pair colors well!
Not much of a purple fan, so even with a higher grade, this wouldn’t really be up my alley!
Phew!
This cool-tone eyeshadow lover is sad 🙁 Come on, MAC! Pull your mineralized socks up! You release so many products like this that look so pretty but then fall over on the execution…
What a shame! These colors look so pretty in the pan, but all of these quads just look so blah on the eye! The colors just seem to fade & blend together–it doesn’t even look like you’re wearing 4 colors! But your pic does confirm my love for Cute Robot!!
Argh, so bummed this didn’t perform well! I was ready to start playing with more palettes. Oh well.
Why, MAC? WHYYYYY?
I sooo wanted to love them!
:((((
Uh-ohhhh..in the pan, it looks sooo beautiful! I never can bring myself to use a dampened brush on eyeshadows…I feel it reduces the shelf life drastically 🙁
oh… It would have been great with little more pigmentation.
A while back L’Oreal used to have a trio similar to this, with all but the lightest shade. Boy that trio was better, how disappointing.
On their own, the colors are very pretty, but it’s disappointing that once blended, they just turn into one shimmer color. I would rather pay extra and get the dupes that are better quality.
