MAC Eyeshadow Swatches: Corals & Oranges

MAC Eyeshadows

Welcome to Swatch Sunday (which might also be seen on Saturday, depending on how much we have to share)! I can’t always review products with full, in-depth reviews, but sometimes, I can at least give you photos and swatches, and then also provide a link to dupes and comparisons for those interested! This also helps us to build up our Swatch Gallery and add even more entries to The Dupe List, which can be helpful to readers at any point. MAC’s permanent range of eyeshadows seemed like a good place to start (and they were due for an update, this time with photos and swatches)! Here’s a little round-up of coral and orange shades:

MAC Motif Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “gold peach with pink pearl [and a Frost finish].” It’s a muted, yellow-gold with a pale pink frosted sheen. See comparison swatches.

MAC Orange Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “neon orange [with a Matte finish].” It’s a vibrant, neon orange with a matte finish. See comparison swatches.

MAC Paradisco Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “bright pinky-coral with pearl [and a Frost finish].” It’s a pinky-coral with warm undertones and a gold frosted sheen. See comparison swatches.

MAC Red Brick Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “orange red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark orange with warm undertones. See comparison swatches.

MAC Rule Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “vivid orange [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium, slightly muted, orange with a matte finish. See comparison swatches.

Bonus:

These two shades are discontinued, but we re-shot and re-swatched them for inclusion.

MAC Coral Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a light-medium, muted coral-orange with a matte finish. See comparison swatches.

MAC Juiced Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a light-medium, yellow-orange with a soft sparkle. See comparison swatches.

1. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I’m hooked in! The swatch gallery is my all-time favourite Temptalia tool. As someone who frequently gravitates to the same shades, comparison swatches have literally saved me a bundle.

2. I am also looking forward to the MAC permanent line swatches. After all this time, my custom MAC palettes still remain my biggest go-to eyeshadows. Maybe there are a few more I need to add to my stash. ) I just added Copperplate (why did I not already have this…gorgeous!) last week and my third pot of Patina

3. Coral is LE.. damn.. it’s pretty!

Haha, it took me awhile to get Copperplate, too. I actually bought about 20? or so refills last week to finish this series (at least, in terms of photographs, lol!), because I was still missing that many from the permanent range. I also learned that 20% of what’s in my “permanent” palettes is now DC (which is why Coral/Juiced got photographed, because we just went through my permanent palettes one by one).

Just bought coral from a free standing mac store. Apparently they are going to be selling some if the pro colors now including coral 🙂

Thanks a lot for this plan! I love your blog and whenever I want to look something up on cosmetics I come to your blog first!
But one question: would you say that MAC’s Orange is more vibrant than Sugarpill’s Flamepoint?
Have a nice weekend!

Hi Matthias!

Thanks so much!

Please check out the “see comparisons link” above that shows all the swatches side-by-side or the “Dupes” button on the Glossover, which will show you dupes and how they differ!

Hi Christine!
I love this post!
Have you ever tried the Coastal Scents Hot Pots? A lot of them are great dupes for higher end eye shadows and they’d be great in the Swatch Gallery! There are over 350 so it would definitely be task! But I’m sure a lot of us Temptalians would love to see them in the Swatch Gallery or maybe even a review or two!

Thanks for all your hard work!

The only one of these that I have is Orange, and while I do like it I don’t use it very often. It’s a great bright orange, but just not very wearable. Red Brick is one that I’ve been eyeing for a long time though.

The only one I have from this list is Motif, which I picked up during a B2M spree. As someone who tends to stay away from anything in the orange/coral/peach range, I actually find it quite wearable! I grabbed it on a whim, figuring it was free, and a chance to step out of my “zone”. I wear it on the lid, with a soft neutral brown in the crease for a quick eye, add mascara, and I look very awake!

I think it’s time my MAC stash came out of hiding… I just tend to play with my newer goodies, and the old gets cast aside…

It’s kind of ironic, though, that I figured once I depotted all of my MAC shadows into a palette, I’d use them more, but since I keep the palettes in a hox, I just don’t grab them anymore. It’s easier the way things are set up to grab a duo or singles from a drawer, rather than dig through a box. As much as I love my UD & KvD palettes, I hardly use those, either (except Naked, as they’re kept on my dresser…

…I guess I’ll have to buy a bigger MAC palette. This are BEAUTIFUL. Motif is so awesome! And Paradisco! I’d like to find a perfect dupe for coral… maybe I’ll try Sephora’s Rio.

Sylirael Avatar

Red Brick and Paradisco look lovely! I’m impressed by the pigmentation in Red Brick, as some of the other oranges here look a little drier?

I really want to get a hold of some pigmented orange eyeshadow, actually, so I can do a look together with another eyeshadow I mean to get a hold of, NARS Outremer (or similar). There’s nothing quite like vibrant blue and orange together (although maybe not for the office, LOL).

Try using these shades as a transition shade. Orange isn’t my best colour, but I can wear them in this manner: They look really nice in a simple eye look transitioning from darkest shadow at the lid up to light. The orange would be your midtone. Just sweep the orange shade lightly just above the crease, but below the brow bone. They look great with browns, muted purples, greys, burgandy.. basically anything. The trick is to make sure your other shadows do not compete with the orange shadow unless you are going for a really bright intense look.

Motif might be the only one I could get away with. My eyes are normally pretty pink (constant allergies, arg) so I have to be really careful with colors like pinks, oranges, corals, etc. Paradisco is absolutely gorgeous but I doubt it would work for me. 🙁

As I stated above, I stay as far away from orange/coral/peach shades, but I really like Motif. If you have anything to B2M, it may be worth a shot! On me, it’s more of a pale gold with a subtle peachy-pink duochrome, so what really shows up is the gold, and it isn’t fully opaque, so I think it’ll look different depending on skintone.

Of my many MAC palettes, Motif is by FAR 1 of my absolute fav lid colors ever! When 1st purchased, thought it was gonna b OK, but once applied as lid color–fell in LOVE!! Also have Rule & Red Brick (as crease colors) which I wear alongside Motif (lid) 4 beautiful bold orange look & accented w/brown liner. Or if want something not as overall orangey, sometimes pair it w/brown e/s which is nice as well. Also LOVE 2 wear Brown Script on lid along w/Red Brick in crease & Rule slightly above crease. Makes a gorgeous smoked out gradient look 🙂

Motif & Paradisco are long-time favourites of mine. I love how both of them have a reflect that’s different than the base shade and I find that, for both, that reflect really does affect how the colour looks in different lights. I remember eying Juiced for a long time, but I never picked it up. Too bad, because it looks like a nice shade.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, by the way!

WOW… Christine, again you amaze me!

My first MAC eyeshadow was Rule (Era and Swimming) I have just de-potted all of my shadows and got three lipsticks. Now my poor hubby is going to Vegas and I am sending him to the PRO store with a list and a big bag of empties!!

Just got the Paradisco (where have I been on THAT one!?!), wish Juiced was still available. I have 5 (15 count) palettes now set up and am looking for ones I HAVE to get. What would be your top 10 must haves?! (I am NW20, brown hair, green/blue eyes…)
