Yes, it is. I just called my local MAC store (in Canada – these are now $8 here but still…) and the SA said that, yes, it’s in store too and that it’s permanent, so far as they’ve been told. I am so excited…I’m heading up there tomorrow to buy a few of the shades I’d sort of hem’d and haw’d about for years (Era, Ricepaper and a few others).

Carrie Avatar

My guess: competition. The internet has made for much savvier consumers and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve seen a drop outside of their die-hard fanbase

Personally, I haven’t bought a MAC shadow in years, but at that price, it could change!

Peer pressure from make up geek..?
They look similar, weight similar and a lot of the shades dupe each other.
It’s ironic that they set the price at $6, which is the same as the makeup geek ones.

(I get this feeling that.. this is their satire way of showing..the owner of makeup geek actually copied the inspiration from mac shadows)

Rebecca Avatar

I think Marlena would like to think so… but this is more about MAC’s prices going out of style with customers than what MUG offers. From the early 90’s to around 2009 it was all about MAC with most makeup enthusiasts and artists, and in recent years they’ve fallen out of favor with constant price increases without changing for the better. Someone leading the company is finally making sense and good decisions!

Roxi Avatar

Me too, waiting for the price drop in Holland now. I wonder what the European prices would be? €13.50 for a refill pan is quite a lot compared to MUG’s €6.40, not that I haven’t bought more MACs than MUG in the past though.

Wow, whatta great info, thanks! 🙂

I’m new to MAC eyeshadows. I have ordered 15x cool tone palette, waiting to arive this week.

What individual shadows should I get me? I’m thinking about Nylon! And other 3 colors could be, lol? As I have 4x empty pan, lol 🙂

And I’m not able to swatch them “live” 🙁 I can only order them online.

What colors are MUST HAVES??

Are there any super glitter ones to have in a small collection? 🙂

Would apreciate any help!! 🙂

Lauren Avatar

My favorite colors are:

If I were to build a 4 pan palette, I’d choose:

All that Glitters (shimmer)
Woodwinked (shimmer)
Saddle (matte)
Brun (matte) or Mulch (shimmer)

Laura Avatar

I ordered the warm and cool palettes around the holidays and I returned the warm. I am around an NC20 fair skin and blue eyes. I hope you love the cool palette. The purples are very good for my skin tone. I was surprised that it worked so great for me.

I love Cranberry, Rule and Mulch for my fun colors.

Natalie Avatar

My favorite ones are All that Glitters, Club, Bronze, Cranberry and Soft Brown (best crease shade ever), but I think it depends a lot on whether you have warm or cool undertones (I’m a warm undertone girl myself, so I tend to stay away from cooler shades) and on the type of eye look you like to make.

Good luck on your shopping! I still remember my first eyeshadow purchase at MAC, so exciting!

Jenn Avatar

Since you seem to have a good list of recs from everyone else, I’ll say that generally they have a good eyeshadow formula, but their Lustre finishes are the driest. The mattes can have a tendency to be too hard which makes it difficult to pick up color, while the matte squared are softer and are generally well liked.

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but I hope this helps. Good luck!

Lauren Avatar

I got the email and I’m thinking of placing an order for my favorite shades with the idea of putting together an ideal travel palette! I have 9 million palettes, so the necessity of this choice is questionable.

McKenna Avatar

Get Soba!!! It’s a beautiful medium yellow-toned brown with a slight golden sheen that turns it into a satin. It’s my favorite everyday eyeshadow!!

Stephanie Avatar

I am thrilled. Living in small town Canada, I don’t have reasonable access to Makeup Geek, Colorpop, and many other single shadows. MAC I can order for free or pick up from time to time when I am in a department store an hour from my town.

Myriah Avatar

I agree! Especially with our dollar being low shipping rates and everything can be brutal. I will definitely be buying some shadows. Expensive pink will be mine haha

xamyx Avatar

This could not have come at a better time. I really want to finish my final MAC palette, but I also wanted to try to get the premade Nordstrom palette. At this price, and the palette price dropping, it looks like l can actually afford both!

Wow! This is a really nice surprise, given how many other brands keep jacking up their prices. Due to hit-or-miss quality, I haven’t bought a regular MAC shadow in decades. I’ve only bought their better LE ones (Extra Dimension, Boogie Nights, Faerie Whisper ), but this could be a game- changer. I’m going to have to look into their regular line. Christine, I think you did an Intro to MAC a few months ago, but do you think it makes sense to do an Intro to Regular MAC shadows?

Bella Avatar

I hope this will affect the swediah price too 🙂 a regular eyeshadow costs about $25… Not sure you can buy them in pan though, but pretty sure they’d be crazy expensive still :/

Nancy T Avatar

Whew!!! What a relief! I knew about this for a few months, but had to keep my big mouth shut! The MUA’s who let me in on it were originally told an earlier date and a $6.90 price, then MAC told them “no, not March 1st, but later this year, we don’t have a set date”. But it’s finally out in the open. Keeping this secret was all but impossible!!!?

Alycia Avatar

This is the positive result for the consumer of strong competition, not only in pricing, but in quality most importantly. If other companies can make as good a product for this price, maybe MAC can focus more on upping their quality vs. heavily marketing a less-than-perfect product. And, if they want to make it seem like more of a deal without changing the product itself, the price drop makes sense.

Krystina D Avatar

I haven’t bought MAC shadows in a long time and I saw they dropped the prices earlier today on DupeThat’s IG page. I bought a few. I haven’t shopped at MAC hardcore in a long time. I thought this was a nice time to revisit. Lol…

Holly Avatar

I have never ordered MAC. I have never been able to find their ingredients lists. I have severe allergies, so until I can easily access an ingredients list, they are off limits.

Emilie Avatar

Copied from the back of the eyeshadow packaging (I bought a few), here are their ingredients! Again, for the eyeshadows:

Talc, Zinc, Stearate, Octyldodecyl, Stearoyl Stearate, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol [+/- (meaning some have these some don’t), Silica, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Chromium Hydroxide Green (CI 77289), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Red 40 Lake (CI 16035), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140)]

I agree, they really should post the ingredients on their website instead of only on the packaging.

Nell Avatar

YES! This morn when their email arrived with this news, this girl was busy making a list and trying to order. The MAC website got slower and slower as I placed my order, but success was at hand! If you use the code MACEXP you will get free 2 day shipping, although you may need to sign up for their frequent buyer plan.

Here are my favorite MAC shadows:
LIGHTS
Blanc type – matte ivory
Phloof! –
Brule
TRANSITION
Haux
Omega
Wedge
Quarry
Satin Taupe
Patina
DARKS
FIG. 1
Blackberry
Chocolate Brown

Plus lots more…you may want to avoid the ones that have a “lustre” finish, they do not perform well on the lid.
Happy shopping!

Joy Avatar

Wow! That really makes mac quite affordable. We had already seen a decrease I’m prices of their pre made palettes. I do hope this decrease in prices ends up extending to more of their products. And if you are lucky enough to have a mac pro discount that could bring your cost down to $3.60 a pan! Unfortunately I do not have a mac pro discount.

Maria Avatar

…and PRO discount is eligible on the $6, so the eyeshadows are even cheaper that way! Love this!!! I know MAC sales have taken a huge hit due to these up-and-coming makeup brands. *cough* Makeup Geek *cough* Anastasia Beverly Hills *cough*

Chessie Avatar

Do you have any idea if they will be dropping the prices of the refill blushes? That would be incredible! Also, what happened to the Pro Longwear Eyeshadows??

Lily Avatar

OMG! These are still £10 in the UK (about $14).
I’m getting married in the US next year and something tells me a visit to MAC will be involved!

Steffi Avatar

The refill pans cost 15 dollars in Belgium which is a crazy price. I was so happy when I saw that they were 10 dollars and I think that I am going to buy all of the ones I want now since they are 6 dollars (way cheaper). I can’t justify spending 15 dollars on a mac shadow. I am gonna wait till the summer of 2017 to do some damage.

MissJae1908 Avatar

It’s about time. There is no way they can continue with these high prices when you have more affordable and better quality options. Now I’m just waiting for the blush prices to drop. 😉

Savannah Avatar

Umm… great and all…but why? I really hope this doesn’t mean the quality is also going to go down. All of my eye shadows are Mac, and I’ll be pretty upset if the quality is no longer the same.

Emilie Avatar

So far I’ve bought Sketch, Saddle, and Aqua! I also want Haux and Woodwinked, but honestly I have dupes for all of their super popular neutrals because I’ve never had any interest in Mac and have so many other shadows at this point. So far I’ve used Saddle and Sketch and I don’t think they’re nearly as soft or as pigmented as Makeup Geek eyeshadows, to me that’s worth ordering from Makeup Geek online. What Mac really needs is a reformulation to catch up with all the other brands.

Karen Avatar

I hope that MAC will be dropping the price of their eyeshadow pans in the uk too.
£10 a pop when you are aware that they are $6 now in USA feels like us UK girls are being ripped off. Beauty bay stocks make up geek starting at £5 a pan also has zoeva palettes at £18 which are as good as if not better than MAC.

Lynette Avatar

This might be a dumb question (I don’t use MAC products that much) but are these pans magnetized so they can go into any Z palette?

Kas Avatar

MAC eyeshadows are now listed as $16. I was on the website yesterday and they were $6 but not anymore! Any idea what has happened? For the first time I thought I could afford to buy their shadows and today I was going to place an order. I am so disappointed.
