MAC Bellgreens Eyeshadow Palette ($44.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a green-hued set of shades. The palette contains six shades in total, with two shades being part of the permanent range (Gorgeous Gold and Charcoal Brown). There was only dud in the palette, while the other five were very easy to work with and performed well. Even the miss of the palette was still blendable enough on the lid that it was still usable, but it will take a little extra effort to get the right level of intensity and diffusion. I was very surprised to see that the palette only contained 0.10 oz. worth of product, which is the equivalent of two full-sized eyeshadows. Despite the size of the palette, it really doesn’t have much product. MAC’s eyeshadow quads typically contain 0.19 oz. almost double what’s inside this one.

Fresh Blade is described as a “pale frosted yellow [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a brightened, golden yellow with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had fantastic pigmentation with a soft, smooth consistency that was dense and buttery. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Gorgeous Gold is described as a “muted yellow gold [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a green-tinged, light-medium gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. There is a green-gold duochrome to it, but it is subtle. The eyeshadow had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture. This shade also lasted for eight and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Vicuna is described as a “light neutral olive [with a Frost finish].” It’s a muted, medium golden brown with a pearly sheen. It had really nice pigmentation with a blendable texture that was a smidgen powdery at times, but it was just barely powdery. This shade showed signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Savant is described as a “mid-tone mustard lime [with a Satin finish].” It’s a medium-dark, dirty olive green–it really is like mustard and lime together–with a mostly matte finish. It was really velvety with a smooth, soft texture that blended well but still adhered well with good color payoff to bare skin, which was a happy surprise. It wore well for eight hours on me. I couldn’t think of any really great dupes for this shade, because it’s darker and not a brighter, more typical chartreuse-like green. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Charcoal Brown is described as a “muted taupe brown [with a Matte finish].” It’s a muted, medium-dark taupe brown with a matte finish. It had good color payoff that was fairly blendable. The texture was soft, finely-milled, and almost felt like a Matte2 with how velvety and blendable it was. On me, the color wore well for eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Sushi Green is described as a “charcoal olive with multi-dimensional pearl [with a Velvet finish].” It’s a dark brown with subtle, olive undertones and a slight gold sparkle. It was a firmer, stiffer shade that had semi-opaque pigmentation that was harder to work with. My best advice is to apply using a fluffier brush to minimize how work it will take to diffuse and blend out. It lasted for eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

My thoughts exactly! I was Savant like CRAZY but I have no use for the rest of the palette. I wish there was a closer dupe somewhere. It’s STUNNING.

I’m really digging the overall composition of this palette, especially with Savant! However, can’t help but be disappointed by the price per ounce compared to MAC quads.

Why can’t Savant be a single…? I may still indulge in this palette, LOL! I love shades like that for brown eyes, and although I have similar shades, the closest non-shimmery one I have is NARS Mangrove.

Hmmm… It looks like I have some playing to do this weekend, LOL! It seems Savant may be a bit deeper, though… I was thinking perhaps mixing Mangrove with the mustard shade in Indian Summer, or Indian Summer & Rated R.

I just did some quick swatches & compared them to my screen, and the closest I came was Mangrove by itself. On the plus side, that means I can justify buying this palette (I have Charcoal Brown & Gorgeous Gold in my online bag), and I found some other interesting blends, LOL!

Sigh. I really wish I could have Savant as a single. It is like the perfect chartreuse for an olive lover like me and would go with a lot of colors I have. I really like the other colors in the palette, too, but I don’t need them since they’re mostly neutrals. The price could be worse, but still…

Ginny Avatar

What do you think is the closest MAC shade. Like, Sour Lemon or Bitter maybe? I thought Nars Mangrove but that also isn’t as mustardy as Savant.

Wow, nice to see a MAC shadow palette finally get a decent score ! I haven’t been impressed by some of their past kits. And a more unique shade like Savant to add a pop of color. As for Sushi Green, too bad it’s not more green to make it more complex, and the formula could be better, but sounds like it’s workable with some primer and a fluffy brush.

So Mac improved the quality of a LE palette, but drastically reduced the amount of product and kept the price the same. Interesting. They are truly throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks.

Happy to see that this gets a good grade overall; sad to see that the shade I loved the look of the most (Sushi Green) ain’t so hot and also that Savant is just not a colour I’d use. Off to check Sushi Green dupes (I’m sure I’ll have plenty of ’em).

Pamela Avatar

Gotta have this especially since I know that Savant is not like the chartreuse shades they’ve released in the past like from Cindy Sherman collection and that summer collection from 2011(?).

Nicole Avatar

ugh! I really like this and I rarely do like Mac stuff! The look you created is perfect with these colors! This may break my fast of pallets that I called with the purchase of Lorac unzipped Gold to concentrate on MUFE artist shadows. By any chance, anything in that range close to Savant?

Genevieve Avatar

It’s an interesting mix of colours – not really greens. But for those wanting the chartreuse-y like colour, would perhaps love this palette. Personally, I think they ruined it by adding the matte brown. Now a nice forest green would have added to the palette. Lovely eye look you did Christine.

Sylirael Avatar

Aww, yeah – chartreuse! I’m glad this did reasonably well – MAC has had a bit of a time of it recently with their eyeshadows, and I wanted these ones to be good (for some reason, LOL!)

The packaging is so weird/cute for this collection – I like it! I also love that the chartreuse isn’t (as you mention) a typical chartreuse either…

Fran Avatar

For some reason I just adore the packaging on this release. Packaging doesn’t really matter to me all that much most of the time, but this really draws me. Unfortunately light and medium yellow-greens are really challenging for me to wear (Thrash is the most difficult shade in the Electric palette for me to use in a flattering way). Dark yellow-greens like olive green on my lids are fine, probably because there’s some olive green in my irises, but the light yellow-greens and my very cool undertones just refuse to get along — at least every way I’ve tried them so far. I wonder if the quality on the blue palette in this release is as good…

Trish Avatar

WOW! Shame on MAC for skimping on the product amount. I did, however purchase this because I think it will look great on my medium/warm skintone paired with my all to many Marsala shade lippies. Thanks for the info. From now on I’m def going to be checking product amounts on ALL my purchases.

Nancy T Avatar

Last night I took the plunge and ordered Bellgreens online! Annnnnd, now I can only hope and pray that this will work with my coloring: MAC C4.5 skintone, teal green eyes with gold flecks, very deep brown hair. Any suggestions?

Nancy T Avatar

Thanks! That definitely sounds pretty, especially the copper! I was thinking that *perhaps* the Marque lipstick that I’m picking up today will work with it because it has some gold shimmer and looks peachy nude on me.
