Thanks for this info, Christine! This is such a dauntingly huge release, I really want to see how the quality is. Looking forward to your reviews!

Lipstick — Veronica ($16.50 U.S. / $20.00 CDN)
🙁 wanted a lippe but the prices are to much for me .i might buy the coin purse it’s cute .

paigest Avatar

I had no clue how LARGE this collection was going to be wow! That’s the biggest surprise. So now it brings me to the challenge what to pick. AND the way things have been selling out so quickly it’s like you have to make up your mind pretty fast.

Charlotte Avatar

Yeah im pretty excited about this..but im hesitant just cause of the quaility of limited edition products. I really loved their Hey! Sailor collection from last summer, I hope it’s as good as that was. I’ll wait to see your reviews before buying, that’s for sure.

ProperIntro Avatar

I used to read archie comics when i was younger so I think this line is very interesting but I think I will settle for the heart shaped bag because I am not really a mac user

Veronica Avatar

The only thing that really bothers me about it is the cherry in Archie’s mouth. It brings to mind a really vulgar connotation, wihch is kind of gross when you consider he’s standing between two women fighting over him.

I dunno, maybe it’s unintentional and it’s just me? Could be because the Veronica looks like Katy Perry, who is the last person I’d give the benefit of the doubt when it’s comes to euphemism. 9_9

Amy Avatar

I wouldn’t say they look like porn stars…Porn stars are so trashy looking. If you go by that logic though, almost all models in MAC promos look like porn stars then xD But it is rather odd and cheeky to have such grown women did up like they’re younger. (Maybe this is what you been by porn star?)

JQ Avatar

Yeah, they are. I just got a couple of pearl glides for Christmas, and I found out they had been made permanent. (Which is great, because I love them and prefer them in regular black packaging.)

Amy Avatar

Nothing that I really want….very cute collection though. I think I may be too young to know this comic xD Why is the brunette or girl with black hair always the “evil” and “devious” one? xD

Rachel Avatar

Veronica’s not really “evil,” she’s just the more bossy and demanding one. Betty is the sweet one. You’re never too young for Archie–you can still find it at bookstores and grocery store checkouts! 🙂

Amy Avatar

Oh that’s what I kinda meant by “evil”. It’s always the blondes that are sweet haha xD Makes me feel unapproachable with black hair. And thanks for the heads up! I haven’t seen them around, but I’ll try looking around when I go to a bookstore or drugstore! 😀

18thCenturyFox Avatar

Darling, as a dirty Blonde who dyes her hair deepest black and never looks back- nothing wrong with a little Unapproachable 😉 Additionally anyone silly enough to be intimidated by hair color is NOT worth your time.

Carrie Avatar

For once, I’m actually excited over the packaging! It doesn’t look like it’s just some cheap little sticker. It’s cute, fun, and totally B+V. I’m seeing so many things I want!

Ivana Avatar

I might pick up the Betty blush or one of the Veronica lipsticks, but in general, I´m not overly impressed. This collection doesn´t really do it for me…

Rachel Avatar

Everything I want is from the Veronica collection, which is unsurprising, since she’s always been my favorite! 🙂

I want to get the Ronnie Red lipstick, Prom Princess blush, and Petrol Blue eyeliner. Though now that I take another look, the Betty Comic Cute nail polish and Caramel Sundae palette look pretty, too. Aahhh!

Emma Avatar

I really don’t like the packaging… I think it’s cheap looking. And except for the blushes nothing really seems that interesting to me… And I don’t think they are undupable. So I’ll leave it!

Verojo Avatar

WOW! Lots to choose from. I’ll be getting a couple of things from the Veronica collection. I like a couple of the colors but mostly because my name is Veronica…lol!

Jay @ Wayfaring Beauty Avatar

The collection itself it okay, but I think the packaging is super cute. I’ll pass on the majority of the accessories; the only ones I like are the brushes themselves. I saw swatches of the lipglasses though and definitely want all of the Veronica shades!

Danielle Avatar

I wasn’t sure what to think when I first heard about this collection, but I actually like some of the colors. Not crazy about the packaging though, but I guess it’s fitting for Valentine’s Day.

Nita Avatar

Okay good new guys I just called the Mac customer service number & they said yes to pro discounts online but I wonder y the managers at the Mac free standing store says no to discounts

Sherry Avatar

Does anyone know if the brush sets that come out with collections like this are as sorry as the ones that come out with the holiday collections? I made the mistake of getting one of the brush sets this past year and the quality was nothing at all like the individual MAC brushes that I own. Don’t want to make the same mistake twice but the set is so cute.

Beckie Avatar

I want everything! But even what I was planning on getting that I figured was “reasonable” is $176… gahhh I wish Mac wouldn’t keep raising the prices.

Brynn Avatar

That PAINS me. Haha I know I’ll be waiting and waiting to get my stuff because I LOVE the packaging and the theme.. Then others will scoop stuff up and depot them. Ouch!

Jennie Avatar

I know! What would be the point of buying a Limited Edition palette with a beautiful design like this one then? It seems unfair, especially since this will be sold out quickly…

Sara Avatar

I definitely want the Betty blush, and maybe the Betty Beauty Powder (although I already have the Foolish Me blush, I picked it up back in Asia. I can’t figure out why it’s been discontinued here). The lipsticks I’ll have to see up close before I decide.

Veronica Avatar

They were actually putting this together when I visited the counter the other day, and while it looked like a cute series, nothing grabbed me color-wise or wasn’t anything I couldn’t dupe. I did however like the magenta lip pencil they have coming in. Wasn’t sure if I just hadn’t realized they had one or if it’s a new product, but it looks like a perfect liner for Rebel!

Kath Avatar

We in Canada pay considerably more than the Americans, and MAC is from here!! These items are probably made in Markham ON about an hour from me. Never fails to make me mad.

Petra Avatar

Aren’t the prices of cosmetics altogther higher in there? Didn’t Illamasqua just campaign for lower prices down under? Any idea if it’s because of logistics or something else? Here in Finland we have a reasonably high tax rate, 24% a.t.m., which explains part of the pricing.

Georgie Avatar

yes sadly cosmetics in australia are extremely expensive… and the price rises (particularly for drugstore brands which are always $20+ and brands like revlon charge $40 for their foundation) are absolutely ridiculous! i don’t know why, because our taxes are supposedly less than america. i think it’s just companies exploiting australians not knowing any better as they have always been expensive. so unfair!

Lauren Hill Avatar

I’m from Canada, and I have to agree with you. When I go to the states, a “drugstore” foundation could be $10, but back home it would be $20. Luckily I’m in the states when this releases, so I still get a good deal!

t_zwiggy Avatar

I’d be embarrassed to have these in my stash, the packaging looks so juvenile and makes me think of fake kids “makeup”. Unfortunately I’m really interested in most of the products. Purple eyeshadows, pearlglide liners, pearlmatte powders, purple and green pigments… I could go on and on. It’s all right up my alley. Flatter Me is my must-have product (even if I have to pay $50 on ebay, lol), I mean Shell Pearl with Foolish Me hearts.. it has to be amazing!

MichelleChefNYC Avatar

Cute packaging… I wanted to be Veronica when I was a kid… Any chance that the products will actually be any good this time? I’ve lost hope with MAC.

Beck Avatar

I was going to skip those pearl mattes now they are calling my name…gahh.
My list so far might change once swatched
Prom princess
Boyfriend stealer
Ronnie red
Strawberry malt

Both pearlmattes

VickyM Avatar

My childhood 😀 ! I´m not from North America but I remember going to the little snack stores as a kid and having my mother buy for me the Archie, Betty and Veronica comics, the animaniacs, Sabrina the teenage witch and Garfield lol, alongside with chips and chocolates or ice cream. I´m sure to buy something even if the quality turns out to be bad (I really hope not…) but even if that happens one blush or one lipstick will be mine. For the sake of the old times lol 😛

Nostalgic, nostalgic… 🙂

tea-chan Avatar

Oh my god, that kid dressed as Archie looks outrageous! XD Eyebrow piercings, lol!

I’m not going to pick anything up but I sincerely hope this isn’t going to be as big of a flop as MAC’s recent LE collections have been.

Erica Avatar

While I grew up reading and loving Archie comic books, this is a fail in my book. Packaging is cheap looking – white plastic, patent leather – ugh! Same ole boring frosty pale colors. Not spending money on nostalgia this time Mac. I guess Reggie took one look at this mess and bailed out. I’m following his lead and passing on this one.

Urzara Avatar

having grown up with archie, betty & veronica, this collection makes me very happy. now if only they’d include a cheryl blossom part to this collection, i’d be in heaven. would love to see the colors they’d come up with for her >_<

18thCenturyFox Avatar

For people who are complaining that this packaging looks “cheap” and ” juvenile” -how does this NOT look like the Archie comics? And it SHOULD look juvenile- this collection is supposed to be young and fun. I don’t consider “juvenile” necessarily derogatory. In fact it’s one of the few things that still attracts me to MAC. They don’t take themselves too seriously, but they can still put out seriously cute collections. This collection looks like the Archie comic, to a T. It’s not cheap, it’s appropriately pop and kitschy. I love these Spring collaborations, they do bring out the kid in me that sqee-ed with delight at the Hello Kitty palettes inside the Sanrio store. I’m completely comfortable with that, some collect their lovely meteorites, I have my childish pleasures.

Lilia Avatar

I totally agree with you. This collection is super cute and bring back memories. I am a super fan of the Archies I continually buy and read the comics and I am in my 40s. I will surely love the packaging, not cheap and juvenile at all.

Veronique Avatar

I couldn’t agree more!! What are people expecting from a collection based on a COMIC BOOK series!?! I think it’s adorable and 100% appropriate

Christine Avatar

Yes, I’ve always received them in the past! The reason I always purchase collection is that samples means just a selected few products from the launch, not the entire collection, and the samples tend to arrive around the on-counter date – so it’s already been available online. With how quickly things can sell out, I don’t take my chances on what is/isn’t going to be sent or when it will arrive, so I just purchase everything when it goes up for sale online! The past year, the timing has been a lot better and closer to on-counter launch dates, but the year prior, they often came a week after on-counter!

Georgie Avatar

this comes out in australia on the same day that my local dior is having it’s gift with purchase… my poor (kfc funded) wallet hurts…. they’re even in the same store for added, wallet hurting convenience!

Jollie Avatar

I have to admit this is a most leave for me. The only thing that caught my attention was the eyeshadows on the Veronica palette, but I am going to wait until you do the swatches. I have the impression that I may already have some similar colours. The assesorious kind of look too cheap for that kind of money.

Charlotte Avatar

MAC doesn’t seem to be able to make a decent purple eyeshadow so I definitely won’t be buying that gorgeous-looking palette until I’ve seen your review!

chris Avatar

I am hoping the Betty lipsstick Bright and coordinating gloss are good dupes for Hibiscus (LE) – Summer 2011 I think. I am interested is seeing all three of the Veronica lipsticks and glosses. I am an NC50.

Valarie Avatar

I have been waiting for this collection it will be my first Mac collection I ever purchase, I mostly buy lipstick from Mac but always miss out on the collections. I might have to wait until this is in stores to get swatches they both seem like they might be for more fair skin and less caramel skin. But if nothing else I will at least get the accessories.

Kitt Avatar

So so so sad I can’t prepurchase this…! I’ve gone to both my MAC store and the counter in Nordstrom. I’m afraid I won’t be able to get what I want from it…!

Ellie Avatar

I think this collection is cute. It’s fun and very archie!
I want Betty bright but i have watch me simmer already. They kinda look the same. Also, I want Ronnie red hopefully it’s not dark blue based red like the Russian red or ruby woo. I want it to be cherry bright red. I’ve seen some swatches already but I always rely on Christine’s because my skin tone is much closer to her.

Rachel Marie Avatar

Right now my list is :
Betty Bright
Caramel Sundae Palette
Pearlmatte – Flatter Me and/or Veronica’s blush depending on what they look like in person
Prom Princess Blush

although may change once swatches come out! Honestly I love all the Veronica products, except my coloring is so similar to what they’re going for I own what seems to be dupes for most of the ones I would buy. Can’t justify nearly the same colored lip products, etc. despite the cute packaging wahh. The brush set also is so cute but I have most of those full sized ):

Mietta Avatar

MMm…I’m not sure when Archie comics were around, I may be too young and in the wrong country to realise their significance (if there is any, please enlighten me). This collection for me has no relevance. Archie wasn’t around around when I was younger nor did anyone mention it. I’m from Australia and (correct me if I’m wrong, like I said I may be of a different generation!) this collection is total bollocks to us. Not only that, but even the packaging just resembles the Wonder Woman collection, (which I actually LOVED) so is total laziness on MACs part to come up with something original. The promo pic is cute…but the illustrations on the packaging…ugly. I don’t want to pull out something ‘kiddish’ in the bathroom of a club to reapply my lipstick. However, I AM partial to hearts and I really like how they’ve made everything white. But just the general idea of two women fighting over a man? Wow. I feel so empowered MAC. Give me back Wonder Woman or other powerful female figures to celebrate our awesomeness!

Alex Avatar

Archie comics have been around for decades (these particular characters have been around since the 40s, created perhaps a year or two AFTER Wonder Woman) and they’re still being published, I’d say that alone makes it relevant. I understand that you disagree with the collection from a feminist perspective but I’d say there’s a lot more to these comics than just Betty and Veronica fighting over a man, plus there are plenty of (still young, since I’m only 23) people who have a lot of nostalgia about these comics and are plenty excited for the collection.

tuna lala Avatar

Hopefully this collection will help enlighten people who have never heard of Archie. If you have to look it up statistically, there are a lot of Archie fans globally (and I’m from Asia) I agree the packaging is not original but the illustrations actually resemble the vintage Betty and Veronica faces (not the ones from 90’s onwards maybe?) so maybe that’s why you think they’re “ugly”. If anything, they’re very nostalgic and un-modern which is a little refreshing for me.

And why do I need MAC to make me, or any other woman, feel empowered? Just because they use Archie, doesn’t mean they support shallow fighting between women over a man. And the comics are not even just all about that. The plot lines are supposed to be all in good and wholesome humor. 🙂

Isabella Avatar

Hey Christine, I called my local mac ,and they said I need to book an appt to purchase the items , now is this something new that mac is doing or just mines?

Hadjra Avatar

Hi Christine,

Is this collection only out in the US or other countries? I really want to purchase the lipstick from the collection I love the Archie packaging! I’m such a Mac person

Beck Avatar

no they are not glitter. the betty pigments are very frosty pastels. the vero pigments are blackened shimmer infused pigments, not as frosty as bettys.

Yuki Avatar

Christine please say your gonna swatch them.
People at most mac stores in Hong Kong either cant speak good english or can speak but are very pushy:(
Lo

Johanna Avatar

Does this mean the Mac stores in NYC will only have this collection on the 31st, meaning the counters in Macy’s will have the collection on February 7th? Because I asked a Mac counter in Macy’s in NYC and they told me February 7th it’ll be released there

Neta Avatar

hey Christine! when you refer to the availability and say that “all other locations February 7, 2013 to April 4, 2013”, do you also mean international locations? do you know if this collection would be out internationally at all?
thanks in advance!

Chelsea Avatar

There’s a ton of stuff I want, I’ve made a huge list, I called my local MAC (not a pro store, where I live all I have is a counter) to see if they’d be doing pre orders, and the girl said “let me take your name and number and my manager will call you, because we don’t know if we’re getting it.” They haven’t gotten back to me, so I guess I’m going to try my luck at ordering online. Can anyone tell me what time of day collections usually appear online?

Lizz Avatar

I am torn between Kiss & Don’t Tell and Oh,Oh,Oh. I have pale skin, so I think Kiss & Don’t Tell would be way to dark, but with Oh,Oh,Oh I’m afriad it will be too dark.

cynthia Avatar

i am stalking the mac website like crazy and i have yet to see them put up the collection…what is going on =[ does anyone know the time that they usually put em up??

Sade Avatar

Ironically the Year of the Snake collection is up today which was suppose premiere online on Thursday….So maybe they switch the date of this collection to Thursday?

Lindsey Bre Avatar

It’s only available for MAC Pro artists right now online, then I think later today it will pop up for everyone else. Nicki Viva Glam II & The Year of the Snake are up too! I basically just bought the entire Archie’s Girls Collection because it’s so amazing! There goes the rent money lol!

priyanka Avatar

LOVE ARCHIES!!!the collection looks so pretty have been waiting for it for a while now!! thank u for the post…great help for me to figure out what i would like to buy! <3

aileen Avatar

Hi Christine! How did you find out the base pink for veronica’s blush is ‘Play it Proper’? I’ve been looking for PIP and would be so happy to have found it! Right now, it’s up to $92 on ebay!
