MAC A La Plage & Cannes Do! Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

A La Plage

MAC A La Plage Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a soft, peachy-pink with moderate, warm undertones and fine, gold and pink pearl throughout. It had a Lustre finish, which is designed to have sheerer coverage; I found it had semi-sheer coverage that built up to medium or slightly higher.

The consistency was lightweight, thin without feeling clingy, and there was a bit of product that sank into my deeper lip lines, which has been an issue I’ve experienced with past shades in this finish as well. The color applied evenly and read a little warmer applied than I expected. It lasted well for three hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Cannes Do

MAC Cannes Do Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a brighter, medium-dark coral-red with moderate, warm undertones and a natural sheen that had a very small amount of pearl. The consistency felt lightweight with light slip that applied as an even, thin layer that didn’t emphasize my lip texture and didn’t seem to settle into my lip lines either.

It had medium coverage in a single layer, which built up to semi-opaque coverage with two to three passes; it had a Lustre finish, which is intentionally a sheerer formula. The color stayed on nicely for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

I like them both, but considering that I have dupes for each, I suppose that’s a given, huh? #ADayInTheLifeOfAMakeupAddict

You crack me up Nancy! Anyway, these lipsticks are pretty popular shades and they are your kind of colours too, so I am not surprised that you would have dupes for them!

They reduced the price of all of all of their lipsticks to $30 in Australia towards the end of last year, which puts them pretty well on par with US prices at the moment (exchange rate is currently 1.5) They reduced all of the single eyeshadows to $29 at the same time.

Both colors are very pretty! Not usually into lustres but A La Plage looks right up my alley and a possible replacement for Ramblin’ Rose, which has sadly been discontinued. I do have Orgasm, which is pretty but not very pigmented. This seems a bit more pigmented.
