Focus On: MAC 189 Face Brush

MAC 189 Face Brush ($40.00) is a flat, paddle-shaped brush with rounded edges. It is made out of synthetic fibres, which makes it good for both powder and more emollient products. This was originally launched with Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, and I will say I do like it with it. I really like this brush for applying pressed powders to the face, and I also like it when applying creamy products like a moisturizer or a cream blush as more of a highlighter or if I want more precision. Typically, though, I use it mostly for pressed powders. It’s a very soft, dense brush. It feels heavier than some of MAC’s other face brushes, and it feels fairly firm. There’s definitely no fluffiness to it, but the softness makes for easy blending as necessary.

How do you like to use this brush?

i’ve only used this brush for setting my foundations with powders… i’ve got to try it with foundations… i love brushes that are multitasking… thanks for the review on this… now i can explore more of it’s wonders!!!

I looove this brush. It could be my favorite brush for applying the Natural MSF. Really. Now I buff it out with the Kabuki or the 188 but I think this brush grabs the powder better. For newbies to this brush, when you wash it, it will have a really strange feel to the bristles. Almost like a wet animal or something! I was so freaked out, I thought I ruined it using my normal baby shampoo/diluted with water. But it was fine, it just takes a little longer to dry than my other brushes.

LOVE this for liquid foundation, much better than the 190 (which I still use for the eye/nose area). This brush just covers the face so well and leaves a great finish. I would reccommend testing this out for that purpose instead of powder.

I love using this for liquid and mousse foundation as it blends very well. It doesnt even look streaky at face at all either!

Lovely brush.. <3 Great review! =D

This is my HG for applying liquid/gel foundations such as studio sculpt. It’s soft, and easy to use. The result is a flawless skin. Definitively love it. I agree with Jen, it takes longer to dry than other brushes. But I love it.
